  1. Are you saying the industry is doubting James Cameron? That's a new one I think I would be more worried if they didn't have doubts
  2. if they are going to wait until the launch week of BP, then they will release it with the movie. They really like to show what they have on the big screen first
  3. Cameron on HFR (3 years ago): I think this is the right approach. I would add that changes in framerates from scene to scene is nothing new and whether that works for you or not is kind of subjective. For example you can see it happen a few times in Gladiator where the framerate goes lower than 24 fps to create a dramatic effect, or in Cameron's own T2. If we can handle a lower framerate in some scenes, I don't see why switching to a higher framerate then going back down would be a problem if handled correctly. In the end it all comes down to the eye of the filmmaker
  4. You could say the delivery was a little awkward but that's to be expected in a movie with a lot of very young actors and while Cameron's dialogue may sometimes lack finesse, it is generally very concise so it doesn't really distract from the experience, at least not for me. Plus who doesn't sound silly when talking to animals? The scene is so well done anyway it could only give me reassurance that Cameron has not lost his touch at all
  5. which Avatar 2 scene did you get? @lorddemaxus seem to suggest if you get the whale scene it isn't HFR? I did get the whale scene, but it seemed to me like the framerate was dialed up in a few places
  6. Curious is it possible that a showing is HFR but not specified? Or is it generally mentioned?
  7. Bit confused by that, were the tickets more expensive when pre-buying?
  8. I don't want to derail the thread too far from straight tracking numbers but since you took it there let me just say this: - It is still the highest grossing movie of all time after 13 years and well overdue for a proper re-release - It won't be the exact same movie, they are proposing an enhanced experience and with at the very least a small added bonus as confirmed by James Cameron himself - It did 57M in a China re-release (this time it was actually the same exact movie, and probably with much less marketing, AND without any Avatar 2 related marketing) - It is a movie that is mostly known as a theater experience, something you can only get by paying for a movie ticket. I'm sure at least a few people have heard of that fact and want to know what all the fuss was about (without counting those who will just want to live it again). And I also think for sure some parents who saw it and loved the experience will be taking their kids to it who were too young to have seen it the first time
  9. Right but on the other I haven't seen any numbers here to suggest the deadline tracking "seems high" or something on par with NWH
  10. Maybe I'm missing something, but how are these numbers suggesting anything "on par" with NWH? Avatar has far more tickets sold and without the "boost" from the 3$ Saturday tickets.
  11. Well we know for sure they added something to the original, that's not speculative, that's what Cameron said himself. Now is there also something else added like a trailer or a scene from A2? I don't know
  12. T2's success was because of Arnold --> Arnold never makes anything as successful again Titanic's success was because of Leo --> Leo never makes anything as successful again. Avatar's success was because of... Sam Worthington? 3d? Who is James Cameron?
  13. Cameron talks about the re-release: No hints of new trailer or scenes from A2, but he mentions they added a small thing at the end to tie it to the sequel
  14. It's a good point, they should announce it I think if it's true. Or maybe they want to make it a surprise, generate some buzz like that?
  15. don't know how credible but showing some scenes with the re-release would be a no-brainer
  16. Difference is Feige had nothing to do with the creation of Marvel so I don't think this is a 1 to 1 comparison. And if I'm Cameron after I made a movie like Titanic, I know any studio will fight over working with me, so I can easily negotiate my terms. I imagine he would still have to make some form of concession if Fox is going to pay the bills and own all the risk, but would he put himself in a position where the studio just keeps him in control because they like him? Could they easily boot him off and replace with somebody else? I can't imagine if Fox had such a strong hold on the IP they would have waited 13 years for a sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time. At this point I think the only answer that would satisfy me would have to be from an industry expert or Cameron himself
  17. I'll concede it's probably technically correct to say "Disney owns Avatar", although how much do you really "own" an IP if another party has creative control? I'd still be curious to see the detail of their arrangement
  18. Not trying to be a smartass but is there concrete evidence that Disney fully owns the intellectual property? Cameron famously sold the rights to Terminator for 1$, but that's a compromise he made to have his first real job as a director (Piranha 2 don't count). And that's something he regretted in a way because he didn't have control over the franchise and we know what happened after #2. I can't imagine he would have negotiated the same kind of deal with Fox after directing something like Titanic, he doesn't have to sell his soul anymore. He must have retained some control over the IP. I'm not an expert on intellectual property but I don't think it's as simple as "Disney owns Avatar" in this case
  19. Do they? Isn't that like saying Warner Bros owns Harry Potter and not JK Rowling?
