As for Ilumination/Nintendo/Universal’s Super Mario, it overtook the total lifetime of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Japan and is performing above Frozen 2 at the same point there. In France, it’s now the No. 1 animated movie ever. The overseas cume is $744.7M (after a $5.8M weekend in 81 markets) with $1.315B global. DHD

Can it make more than 10B by the end of its run? Assuming drops after GW aren't too bad?- 23,383 replies

DEADLINE Notably, Japan opened this weekend. On 776 screens, the start was a huge $14.3M to score the biggest opening weekend ever for an animated studio movie, as well as the biggest Saturday box office in Universal history – topping Jurassic World Dominion. In only two days, Super Mario became the fastest Universal film to reach 1B yen, and the weekend result is the biggest Universal opening of all time. To date, Super Mario is performing above many comps. For example, and excluding finicky China, it is over Jurassic World by 12%, 16% ahead of Frozen II, 27% in front of Minions, 32% over Beauty and the Beast; 33% ahead of Spider-Man: Far From Home and 51% above last year’s Minions: The Rise of Gru.

JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW
WayneBorg replied to Corpse's topic in International Box Office
CORPSE United Cinemas bugging out and not being included in the Saturday admissions is annoying and leaves some room for error in the estimates for the day, but here is what I'm doing...United Cinemas had roughly 95,000 seats available for Super Mario. Toho, Kinezo (Movix), and 109 theaters sold ~73% of all their tickets when combined. United is usually the bottom chain among these in terms of capacity %, so I don't expect them to be close to 73%. But... we also don't know. I'm going to guesstimate they did ~60%, so about 57,000. That'd take it to around 283,000 at the usual locations (which, to anyone who didn't know, does NOT include Aeon now unfortunately). The Super Mario Bros. Movie (Estimates)Fri.: ¥265-290 million ($2.0-2.2 million) / 195,000-205,000 admissions.Sat.: ¥725-770 million ($5.4-5.7 million) / 530,000-545,000 admissions. *Holiday*Using a low for the avg. ticket price of ¥1365, and a high of ¥1415.- 23,383 replies
