  1. Doupt money is the reason. Even if this is the most expensive film Ghibli ever made (so like idk ~40-50 million $) and even if we ignore their prob quite big merch sales (for which i think Suzuki has given a 10+ billion Yen per year number years back) they still got enough cash injections in the last couple of years through putting their movies up on streaming and the couple of chinese releases that racked up what 100 million $ up till now. Its just Miyazaki reasons even down to just being contrarian
  2. Whats the projection for Castle in the Sky , 25-30m $ ? Good Chance to outgross ATSV ?
  3. Also im sure western and chinese releases that will be down the road will have footage and promo stuff available. Im guessing this is for Japan where it opens first and is their main market and the Miyazaki name + legs and WoM family vieweings that are characteristic of the Market and Ghibli will make this much less of an issue. And its not about money im sure.
  4. Dont know if the releases were equivalent in theater count , promotion etc or the Covid circumstances but in various Chinese anime and other rating sites Ponyo is among the 2-3 worst rated Ghibli movies and Castle in the Sky among the highest rated so hopefully it will do well
  5. Both Totoro and Spirited Away did great on their first time releases a couple of years ago so i assume this will do quite well too? And probably a bunch more ghibli movies left to release
  6. huh really ? Visualy at least the trailers looked amazing . Are the issues with the story ?
  7. Cant find actual grosses anywhere. ATP wise if we make a quick calc Due to various day or student discounts Regular 2D will average out around idk 7.3 Euro , normal 3D to 9.3 Euro. The "projection" screens i think are basicaly any special dolby atmos etc screens from Village (largest chain in greece by far) and they are around 10 Euros. Imax at ~12.5 Euros So if we assume a distribution like OW but more 3d heavy ATP would be 8.5-8.8 over its run by now.
  8. Official statements also said and acknowledged that the 60k number is obviously low and an underestimation and that the way accurate death numbers will be known and published is by looking at excess mortality for these months a bit down the road. So i dont think the number given is an attempt to "fudge the numbers" , and mislead the people. People know that a shitton have died and the party admits the number given is a lowball . Its just a very conservative and strict estimation since actual hard numbers are hard to be calculated accurately during a peak of hundreds of millions of infections and with all the chaos going on
  9. Tickets for minors range from being at a 25% discount to being half price so Minion's ATP is pretty deflated. Regular 2d screens for a movie like Violent Night are usualy at 7.5-8 Euro ATP but various 1+1 discounts , college student discounts push it down . Avatar is VERY 3D heavy (75% of screenings are 3d and/or plf and i'd say at least 50% of tickets sold) where the ATP is at least 9-9.5+ Euro. Also less college age and younger skewing to take advantage of many discounts. So it should average out at 9+$ ATP . I even think a gross figure was given after the first weekend by someone else where the ATP was at 10$
  10. Greece should be at ~3.3+ million $ till 8/1 . 330k admits with a ATP somewhere a bit above 9 euros
  11. With a 50 million week it can keep its 50m lead over TGM till next monday. Then yeah it has to gross 70 million less than TGM for the rest of its run to end up bellow 700m. Good chance at 700m then
  12. No matter if one enjoys the hint game thing or not these threads would have had huge page count and be lively either way. 95% of posts in them have little to do with the hint game and reactions to it so some people saying they are kinda turned off by that particular thing doesnt mean wanting any meaningful shift towards sterile numbers thread and less engagement or fun
  13. Maybe but since they have done both in these threads (that is trolling a bit and providing actual hints and winks towards what the numbers say) and since they have the insights and possible updates that a bunch people are coming to this site or threads for you are inclined to take everything they say seriously and try to figure out what they are implying.
  14. Yeah hints and jokes are fun and all but the game of trying to read the tea leaves for an hour to get an idea of what the number thats being alluded to is can overstay its welcome if it goes on for a bit too long or for almost every day for a title. At least for non terribly active users that come to this forum to get a quick idea of where things are regarding a movie they are invested in or where are they heading towards
  15. But ist probably cause in a bunch of countries THU gets counted with the weekend ?? So some of the THU gross is included both in the "by THU" estimates and the weekend gross estimates
  16. Maybe its France and others ATP magic. By THU they hadnt adjusted it down so with the adjusted ATP of the last few days they retroactively had THU gross at like $1.065B
  17. Quantity has a quality to itself, especially for Spielberg movies, but it should be noted that James Cameron hasnt even directed 10 feature films while Spielberg is at over 30. Anyone can curse the fact that he will end up dedicating 25 years of his life on Avatar productions if they like but he just didnt have and didnt chose to have the opportunities to venture into completely different genres and movies. Maybe to many its a fault that he didnt try but still chosing to stay in that range for one reason or the other is different from not being able to go outside it or make great movies in other genres and stories. But we'll never know i guess
  18. 700m is a long shot . Maybe we'll get x5 legs instead which would be a great milestone. Needs 670m so its a somewhat more achievable
  19. If Giant theory is wrong how come James Cameron is a Giant of cinema and the box office? checkmate
  20. @Brainbug's A2 under JW club got killed so hard that dinosaurs being real isnt even certain at this point
  21. Cameron creating new mo-cap ,cg and deep sea exploration tech for his movies <<<<<<<<<<< Spielberg placing millions of carefully crafted fossils all around the world to trick humanity into thinking Dinosaurs were real in order to make Jurassic Park
  22. but like 97m for 9m admits gets you a ATP for its entire run bellow 11 which means the ATP rn is at like 10 and has been for a bit?? That seems too low. Germany had a 200k THU for 2.6m => 13 Ticket price. FRA should be at or over 100m by THU
