Which do you think should have won?
Caught by the tides or Grand Tour. I couldn't see nor All we imagine as light nor The seed of the sacred fig though.

This was one of the best films at Cannes this year, but I didn't feel it was quite on a Palme level. Still very happy for the film.

I mean you could make this exact argument for other Part Ones like Dune, its not standalone...just set up. You can debate the merits of doing the project like this but Part 2 is only a month and a half later.
I mean, although Dune Part One does feel like half of a film, at least there is character development within the film and it has a clear ending. Absolutely nothing happens in Horizon Part One (past the first 45 minutes), it's just people talking and Costner introducing new characters endlessly. The ending is super random.

ehm...
Not sure how they're coming up with this. Save for Marigold, the other female characters barely get any screentime. They're all depicted as extremely naïve, serving as mere love interests for the male characters.

Really disliked this. It's overlong, messy and nothing happens (just uninteresting dialogue between random characters) so it just feels like a 3-hours long trailer for the sequel. It's also shot like a TV film and the acting is...uneven.
I guess there also might be some controversy over the depiction of indigenous people and women.

Absolutely bonkers. Loved it.

I wasn't a fan of Lanthimos' last few films but I really liked this. Quite a few walkouts in the Grand Théâtre Lumière (after somewhat graphic scenes).

Managed to secure tickets for this in Cannes. So excited !

You saw an IMAX pre-release screening and it was empty? Are you just making this up?
It was not pre-release. It was a midday screening on a workday, in Malaysia, where it is opening today.

Caught a screening of this (first time trying IMAX). Great film, especially the last hour. Show was empty though.

Better than the last few weeks, but those are still low numbers for February. The Zone of Interest is doing really well; it's even going to easily outgross Madame Web.
Anatomy of A Fall is still chuggling along in week 26 with 50 000 new admissions and is now close to the 1.6M admissions mark. It's going to get a boost this week thanks to the César ceremony where it is the frontrunner to win Best Picture, although The Animal Kingdom could pull an upset.

I'm hoping to catch it if I have the chance. Many preview screenings in Paris for this and Creation of Gods I : Kingdom of storm (which got an exclusive 2-day release last weekend) were sold out during CNY weekend. Heylight Pictures (who also distributed Godzilla Minus One in France) said they're planning to release more Chinese blockbusters in the future after Creation's success.
