  1. just came back from the Imax (too bad no 3D). PERSONALLY I like it a lot, actually the best of my latest theater experience (Mario, Avatartwo, TGM). the somewhat awkward comic tone in the beginning and the far too out of the time post credit scene are the only two shortcomings. the self-references are pretty well done and without them the movie is still fine piece of entertainment...in another timeline it might be a big hit. the first Friday morning show in Taiwan, the theater is almost empty. Even Marvel shows fatigue in here, DC ofc will suffer more. especially Batman 89 was never a thing here (we were with Indiana Jones and his dad) and DCEU was never a thing everywhere. This movie itself is in the wrong timeline, it belongs to a whatif timeline where Batman 89 still appeals to newer generation of movie goers and DCEU actually made it.
  2. 2/16 (TH) Taiwan BO 1. Marry My Dead Body NT$ 7.91M (total 83.6M) 2. Antman 3 NT$ 7.72M (total 20.6M) Antman 3 opened Wednesday at #1, but yesterday local ghost comedy came back on top. nice to see Taiwan moving away from being a Marvel colony.
  3. Avatartwo past TGM yesterday (2/14)@ NT$735M. Now the #7 all-time. perfectly sum up Taiwan movie going history: 3 Cameron at #1 Avatar, #5 Titanic, #7 Avatartwo the biggest of Marvel Endgame at #2 the biggest of Dinosaurs Jurassic World at #3 the biggest of FF Fast 7 at #4 the biggest of transformers Dark Moon at #6 pretty much Cameron and the biggest franchises/ deals
  4. 2/10-2/12 (FSS) Taiwan BO 1. Marry My Dead Body NT$ 46.1M (47M) 2. Slam Dunk NT$ 18.2M (-41% 400.9M) 3. Avatartwo NT$ 6.53M (-36% 733.5M) 4. Titanic NT$ 3.79M 5. A Man Called Otto 3.15M (4.58M) Avatartwo should pass TGM this week, before Antman 3 depriving it more screens and showtimes by Weekend. local ghost comedy debuted strongly, dethroning Slam Dunk
  5. wonder why though? with Spring festival biggies still going and new Feb releases coming, Avatartwo's will only get less not more showtimes~
  6. 2/3-2/5 (FSS) Taiwan BO 1. Slam Dunk NT$ 31M (total 366M) 2. Avatartwo NT$ 10M (total 720M) 3. BTS: Yet to come in Cinemas NT$6.54M (total 9.56M) Slam Dunk now past Frozen 2, becoming #2 animation film of all time. BTS is Village Roadshow chain (18 theaters, the biggest in Taiwan, but still "limited") exclusive, the power of K-pop idols.
  7. no, I got burned by trusting DC directors/writers too many times before the movie come out, WW84 was the last straw. PERSONALLY, I will not hype -believe will be good before the movie is done - any DC movie, that's all. And PERSONALLY I dislike Reeves Batman and Gunn's TSS, both in the not worthy watching in theaters category,
  8. I actually agree and my resentment toward Reeves' Batman was opined in the Batman thread. just once and only once for all, my current thoughts on the whole DCEU thing. 1. don't think the inevitable "Marvelizing" DCEU going to work. It will take too long and I don't see GA have the energy/appetite for another Superhero cinematic serials/soap. Adding the stream contents, it's going to be exhausting and therefore "why bother?" for non-fans. 2. all signs now seem to gear the whole DCEU for specific brand of audience, this is the "bad" tendency since Snyder reign. Marvel empire didn't build on comic readers, geeks, or nerds or whatever fanbase, if WB want to go for this route, they should be careful with the budgets. But hey, Hollywood people like to throw money around, so it's not my concern, but as a DC fan, I really don't like any further mismanagement of DC characters. 3. I was an avid support for BVS, due to the idea that two high profile, most recognizable IPs can effectively introduce lesser known characters...and we all know the result. in the end, the Supes is more powerful than the whole JL combined, the objective for JL is to revive Supes...this run against the task of high profile characters. Black Adam in a way repeat the same mistake, but since none of those characters matter to GA, no meaningful harm done. 4. finally, PERSONALLY I don't like extended Cinematic/streaming universe. I like the unique treatment for each IP based on its natural and appeal to GA. when the first one hits, then and only then sequel will be considered. but ofc this is just a fan rambling.
  9. I know Terminator 2 success, just not from the current BO record list. Anyway, Terminator 2 was more terminator + never before seen VFX global phenomena. Avatar later similarly with 3D. Taiwan was part of all three of Cameron's global victories, but we didn't go see it because of James Cameron. In my opinion, Japanese were the same way. When Avatartwo didn't really offer any significant visual spectacle upgrade/revolution, Cameron's name won't pull Japanese into theaters in drove.
  10. I don't think Cameron is a brand in Japan the way Tom Cruise is. Titanic was a freak of nature and Avatar a similar case, though smaller in scale.
  11. well...how recognizable is the ip in Western countries? In Taiwan, it's part of the nostalgia trend, "youth of the 90s" contributes greatly to its success here.
  12. 1/27-1/29 (FSS) Taiwan BO 1. Slam Dunk NT$55.12M (total 311.5M) 2. Avatartwo NT$24.9M (total 700.2M) 3. Plane NT$8.93M (total 16.2M) 4. Operation Fortune NT$ 7.21M (total 31.23M) Avatartwo crossed 700M, now # 8 all-time, striking distance between it and TGM Slam Dunk now the #2 Japanese movie behind Demon Slayer (650M)
  13. guess the consistent 1M+ daily days are over, all things considered, Avatartwo has a pretty decent run in China.
