    4.92 legs almost impossible

    366+19.1*4=442

consider the impact of ep9, This is elsa's limit

in a normal moviegoing frame, yes. but this is the christmas holiday coming up. nobody expects F2 to do what the original did over Christmas, but a strong holiday showing could sending well on its way to over 450

I do think it says something that this thread was like 20 pages ahead of Frozen 1's at release day and it's not even going to come close to how big that thread got overall.

it sure does say something. it says the first was a phenomenon, and not only the movie itself and the movie's box office performance...but how that performance drew so many people together to learn about box office stuff.

it says phenomenons are what they are because we don't get repeat performances of them.

it also says that despite common sense telling us the sequel was always going to act more like a 'traditional sequel', and not have the insane legs of the first, many people still got up in the pre-release sky's the limit predictions. no, it's not gonna beat Lion King. yes, it is gonna beat the original Frozen. 1.3 billion is wildly successful and while my money is on a Frozen TV animated series next, who knows

Where the box office meets the green

There's a series full of memory

    Lush animation, details all around

For in a sequel all is found

    (coughElsamarencough)

definitely yes to a third movie, but perhaps two seasons of A Disney plus series that explores the world right after the second movie. because why have to rely on limited side plot time to craft a relationship when we can get elsamaren thoroughly explored in a TV series and have it be already there for the third movie

Oh, now people claim how lame Favreau’s TLK is now and always will be? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Like if we haven’t enough anti-TLK (2019) by now (which btw is already too much it can bear ever since it’s July release). 🙄

I’ve heard no one else being positive about it as of lately, and i have just recently seen the film on DVD in multiple viewings since i bought it...and been very positive to it.

Not saying that those who didn’t like it are always wrong, I kinda understand those whose passionately love the original. But come on! There’s no movie-law that says no one’s allowed to like Jon Favreau’s TLK. That’s just begging for hypocrisy. 🙎🏻‍♀️

I mean you craft the online experience you want, if you want to see positive things about The Lion King you got to look elsewhere.

I'm not sure 450m is guaranteed. If it got hit by Jumanji, it's certainly going to get hit by Star Wars.

And there is a difference between "toxic" and "forgettable".

yeah, the difference being that toxic is a vague reference to the online behavior of a group of people, while forgettable Is the opinion of an individual.🤣

  6. I'm actually torn. Part of me wanted to Out gross the original by as much as possible, because the more it makes the more likely we are to get a franchise continuation, probably a third movie and many other things. But Another Part Of Me wanted it to be a little less. Somewhere in that magic range where they don't really want to make another movie, but it's still plenty profitable enough to encourage them to do something else, like an animated TV series. I mean they just expanded the world greatly and gave us a lot of new characters, I would love a TV series to explore those things.

That's probably not going to happen, as the magic range going by Big Hero 6 and Tangled seemed to be 500 to 700 million dollars for TV series follow up.

no matter what the Frozen franchise will continue in some manner. I expected the time skip with movie 2, but I don't really want another time skip, I want to see what happens next!

    Frozen 1 >>>> Frozen 2

i don't get how people say Frozen 2's soundtrack is better than Frozen. I got multiple goosebumps in theater when I listened to the songs in Frozen 1.

Do you want to build a snowman and for the first time and its reprise was so sisterly interactive and plot-serving for the movie while Let it Go just elevated the entire movie tone.

While in frozen 2, the songs worked more like a character realisation in a music video. (TGS-like sequences)

The songs aren't bad, just they are not integrated well with the plot.

Yeah, but going based on what you said, it's easy to see who people who heavily emotionally invested in the characters from the first movie, it would find II movies soundtrack more rewarding on a character emotion level, and not be as concerned with the thinner plot.

  8.  feels like this is right about where the original will jump ahead of the sequel in day-to-day tracking. Completely expected of course, the original Frozen absolutely blew up over the Christmas holiday and then its legendary legs kicked in. If the sequel can add any more than a hundred million domestic from this point I will be pleased as punch.

I don't think people were necessarily setting themselves up for another Let It Go, because let's face it, only songs like "Reflection" (and potentially I'll Make a Man Out of You"), "Circle of Life" or "Beauty and the Beast" can be said to have a breakout value comparable to Let It Go (for their pre-Internet time period). Not that all the other songs in Disney's library aren't great, just that there are those select stand-outs.

What I think people were expecting though—myself among them—was for the songs to be catchy. The kind of song that you're gleefully humming out of the theater because it gets so stuck in your head. Frozen 1 had a ton like that. Let It Go, Love is an Open Door, For the First Time in Forever, In Summer, Do You Wanna Build a Snowman... all of them have such a Broadway bounciness and/or energy that it's hard not to have those songs be ear-worms.

Frozen 2... kinda has that in some respects, but not much.

All is Found - Gorgeous, very much has the feel of something like You'll Be in My Heart. Not catchy but a sweet lullaby.

Some Things Never Change - This one has that Disney catchy-ness, and I swear it sounds like something from a parade at Disney World.

Into the Unknown - the catchy stand-out yeah, but this song? It's hard to sing! Let It Go had some tough high notes at the end, but that was just at the end. ItU takes that high note at the end of LiG and has it be sung multiple times in the chorus of the song. Let It Go was catchy, ear-wormy, applicable to many, and easily singable. This one is pretty tied to Elsa's powers lyric-wise, and a lot harder to sing if you actually want to hit all the notes properly.

When I'm Older - this one has the catchy upbeat tone of In Summer, good song

Lost in the Woods - the actual song is pretty nice, but it being like an 80's ballad feels kind of out of place (especially with the accompanying visuals).

Show Yourself - now THIS is the kind of "iconic singable Disney song" kind of vibe as the rest of the Disney Renaissance and the Revival have. It's incredible, easily singable, epic, and relatable without being too heavily tied to the specific character experience like Into the Unknown was. Definitely up to the quality I'd expect from the first one.

The Next Right Thing - I love this song. I do. But I think this song more than any other is an example of why I don't think Frozen 2 will get a sing-along release. Why? Because it's freaking depressing. The beginning lyrics especially are probably the most depressing lyrics I've ever heard (easily from Disney, possibly ever). It's slow, the beginning sounds borderline suicidal, it's just more like something out of Les Mis rather than Disney. True it gets more hopeful at the end, but considering it's the last song in the film it's a bleak one to end on and sing. This is certainly a Les Mis-vibe song, and Les Mis didn't exactly get a widespread sing-along release (it seems it did get one at some point though, so who knows?)

yeah, speaking Recreation of past Joy Usually ends in disappointment. Moderating expectations is healthy

The soundtrack as a whole is better than the first film's but I think the movie itself is worse. It even misses a whole act and there's way too many unexplored things for it to feel like a cohesive film. The movie has way too much going on for its own good (its like if The Irishman was only 2 hours long and Jimmy Hoffa didn't appear until the last half hour).

Yeah, whether or not the character-driven emotional Stakes make up for the thin for the thin plot it's a personal thing, and kind of depends on how much somebody emotionally invested in the characters in The First movie.

  11. Yeah it's clear they had some rewrites and clearly had some other directions possibilities in mind at some point. I hope they talk about that a little in the DVD release or director's commentary, or maybe deleted scenes. At the same time they clearly wanted these characters to feel familiar so despite the 3-year time skip there was very little change in the characters. Also it always feels strange when there is a first movie and get to the end and that seems like the end and you are kind of invested in the characters motivations and you understand why they are happy with their ending. Then when a new sequel opens the world and characters suddenly have new motivations and also more complex backstories it can feel jarring. But multiple viewings usually lessens that feeling

  12. Yeah the issue was that the people who wanted that just wanted it for inclusivity, they didn't actually have any idea how Disney could integrate Elsa coming out again and getting a girlfriend into the main plot of the movie. Which is why coming out in the first movie works so well as a metaphor for sexuality because it ties into Elsa's powers which directly ties into the plot of the movie.

If Elsa would ever get a girlfriend in any of these movies, it would be treated with the same level of narrative attention as Kristoff and Anna getting together. As a Side Story, the fact that it will be two girls wood in the movie not be recognized as anything out of the ordinary at all.

We already got Elsa's coming out story, in the metaphor about powers in the first movie. Someday we make it an actual Disney princess coming out story but that will be Central to the plot of the movie. Or as a side story to the main plot.
