Yeah, I remember hearing reports about it being heavily cut down after King of the Monsters failed. Thankfully, unlike many other situations like this in Hollywood, Adam Wingard seems to have had a decent seat at the table through it all, as indicated by him gleefully returning for this one. And this time they went in with the knowledge of what the fans truly want instead of having to retroactively change the movie after filming, so hopefully the movie is great and it pays off next month.

If it's as good as the last movie, I can see this happening. But I'm not sure, with two movies' worth of goodwill and the incredible hook it has, that it'll open that low. Again, if it's good, I'm thinking this opens with at least $80M. -

Remember when Batman v Superman was seen as a special event because of just how bad its word of mouth was? Good times. Now we get a sea of BvS'es all year round. The deterioration of Hollywood this decade will be one for the history books. -

Everyone already knows. In fact, it was out in the open for years, as early as from back when the movie was first announced. In the social media age, word spreads faster than light. And with their friends digging the old announcement up and posting on Twitter and TikTok about it, why should people fork the money to see a movie that can't stand on its own without that surprise factor? -

That leaves only Shadow's actor as the big mystery surrounding this movie. My guess is he, along with the first trailer, will be revealed at Comic-Con. -

The lowest regular opening weekend ever for a $200M+ movie. I have no words. -

As an international fan who's dying to see Minus One but can't since it seemingly isn't getting a theatrical release in my country, I'm actually in favour of it landing on demand as soon as possible. It already did what it needed to do, and then some.

Between The Boogeyman's unremarkable performance, and the Star Wars baggage Daisy Ridley has been saddled with, keeping the theatrical release limited is understandable. If it performs well, then they can expand it later in the summer. But even if it underperforms and goes to Disney+ without a wider release, the small scale of the release will ensure Disney will barely lose anything on it, and at least the movie will qualify for the Oscars. So Disney wins either way. They can even use this is a litmus test to see if Ridley can still carry a movie even after her last vehicles were destroyed by studio incompetence, and decide what to do with the in-development Rey movie.

Tenet should not count, as barely any theaters were open in the US when it launched during extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime circumstances. Argylle is opening in a fully operational marketplace devoid of any real competition that could use more movies to bide its time until Dune 2 properly starts the year. It has no excuse to open this low, unless the movie is unappealing and unwatchable. Our distributor likely saw what was coming and scaled back the release in my country significantly, thus it won't be playing in my area and I won't be able to see it in theaters, so I can't say for myself how bad it truly is. Hopefully our denizens will enlighten us in the weekend thread tonight.

They might save the trailer for both the series and the next movie for Comic-Con. They could then release Knuckles in November to lead into Sonic 3 in December. -
Len Wiseman making a mess isn't too surprising. Entrusting him with a beloved property like John Wick is almost as bad as giving the Cloverfield Paradox guy a Captain America movie. And now both studios are paying the price by having to essentially remake their respective movies, possibly making them even worse as seen by Josstice League. If I was a shareholder for either I'd be pissed and call for their heads.

Between Barbie last year, Dune 2 this year and possibly Superman next year, Warner can gain a lot of leverage on exhibitors by essentially supplying them with gallons of water in a scorching hot, desolate desert. If they play their cards right they can become the next Disney, or at least the closest thing to it.

This looks like a smaller scale version of Bowser's Fury. It's basically a Generations port for modern systems with some bonus Shadow stages and boss battles added for the fans. -

The truth most likely lies somewhere inbetween. Scheduling issues probably were major factors to both departures, but Marvel's recent woes may have influenced their views and led them to ultimately move on to greener pastures. -

Yeah, this is a pretty bad omen for Marvel. And I have a feeling they won't be the last to jump ship. Who's to say that, for example, Pedro Pascal won't decide to drop out of Fantastic Four? Or what if Mahershala Ali decides he's had enough and leaves too? -

As a foreigner, I'm going to assume the potency of football in American culture is why January and February are usually wastelands as far as movie releases are concerned. Every year I see Sunday numbers dropping like rocks because of these games.
