Don't see anything controversial about saying that having actors dissing the movies they're in is bad for the movies and bad for their careers. The girl has been bullied off of social media.
This movie faced an unfair uphill battle over race (the same TLM did), but now it has scored two very big own goals in the form its main star bashing the source material (the fans of which they want to see this one) and taking roles away from a very underrepresented minority in Hollywood.
Zegler's not the problem. Disney's PR team is the real issue here, cause every single dumb thing that came out of Rachel's mouth had to be approved by the PR team before she spoke out. Iger should fire them all and change the marketing strategy if they want to salvage this project.Disagree with this. I think she gets nervous and says stupid things. See my Shazam example above. She lacks polish in these moments and searches for things to say, and says the wrong thing. The studios should be helping her more.

I feel bad for her, but would be lying if I said what she has said didn't grate on me and ruin any prospect of me being excited for the movie. Despite the views of some here, I see this sticking for a while and I think Rachel has done a fair bit of harm to her career in the short term and to this movie. While I expect this all to die down in a month or so, it will ramp up again when the film releases. It's kind of unsellable.
According to Rachel:
- the movie her movie is copying is no good;
- the film, a remake of a romance, considers romance ancillary; and
- her male lead could have all of his scenes cut from the film and it wouldn't matter.
How does she or the studio sell this movie now? Add to that the dwarf controversy.
She needs PR coaching and stat. She also had a huge clanger for Shazam 2 when asked why she wanted to be in it on the red carpet she replied with "I needed a job". Honest, but very hard to save and insulting to everyone else who worked on the film even if she tried to sell it as a joke.

This movie was a solid 7/10 until the third act which was a jumbled CGI mess.
Also we don’t need to worry about the box office, it’s safe to assume the good people at Skittles, Gatorade and Uber have ensured this movie has already made a profit with what can only be described as the most shameless and embarrassing product placement I have ever seen in a film.
”Taste the rainbow”…twice.

At my local there are two identical premium screens. One is showing Scream VI, the other Shazam! (already a bad sign) at the same time.
Worse than that though, is that Shazam has only sold TWO more tickets than Scream VI. Ouch.

Authority is a movie based on variety. https://variety.com/2023/film/news/dc-universe-superman-legacy-batman-green-lantern-supergirl-booster-gold-1235507426/. You are however right about Creature Commandoes. I should have instead mentioned Swamp thing which is the other offbeat movie planned. Hopefully budgets are low for those movies and WB dont dump them.
There's really no comparison to be made between The Authority and Swamp Thing and Shazam.
The most analogous thing to The Authority would be The Boys. Swamp Thing is horror.

I love dinosaurs and I have no interest in seeing this.
This is DOA.

Scream 2 is the 2nd-best entry in my book, so if VI comes anywhere near that, I'll be ecstatic
The order that 2, 4, 5 and 6 go in in terms of a ranking is, IMO, just based on preferences and small details.
They're all a very consistent quality.

I hope this is good and I hope it performs. I liked the first, and Sandberg deserves a hit.
Although there is a part of me that has mixed feelings - a flop would make it easier to fully close the DCEU.

This was Scream 2 all over again: lots of excellent set pieces overcompensating for quite a lame plot. Like with Scream 2, you have lots of padding with the main characters, which is great because they all have chemistry; unlike Scream 2, you don't have Laurie Metcalf working overtime to sell a really rushed and underdeveloped motive. The killer reveal in this is by far the lamest in the series.
I have really mixed views to be honest. I hope I like it more on repeat viewings.
BIG spoiler below...
I thought Dermot Mulroney's performance was embarassing, tbh. By far the worst thing in the film.
-
I'm also concerned...
That Sam fucking killers up is becoming this franchise's version of Jurassic World's *hand held up to dinosaur* and dinosaur fight finale. Ready to move on from that plot point tbh.

I'm scared that the killer reveal + motive could be worse than 3. By far the most divisive element seems to be the 3rd act.
It is. It feels less organic than that and makes a lot less sense when you think about it. What's most annoying is that the movie seemed to be building towards a really interesting motive, and then its scoffed at in the reveal and they pull back on it completely.
-
I saw it. I think overall it will have good word of mouth. As a fan of the franchise I ejoyed it, but this is probably my ranking...
Scream (1996)
Scream 2
Scream 4
Scream (2022)
Scream VI
Scream 3
I think it's a testament to the overall quality of the film that it overcomes what must be the new weakest killer reveal and motive of any film in the franchise
For a movie that relies so heavily on FIVE previous instalments in terms of plot, it's arguably more accessible to GAs than its predecessor. I think because its far less meta and *wink, wink*. Think this will exceed BO expectations.

The reactions in S.Korea aren’t encouraging.
Imo Marvel can’t take another hit. Three big event films this year and they all have come under expectations.
If Quantumania flops, then I don’t know. The narrative around the MCU is starting to change.I don't think "Marvel Fatigue" is a thing. I don't even think a decline in quality is to blame. Captain Marvel made over a billion.
The problem is two-fold, but with each issue having the same impact. Phase 4 lacks an overarching narrative to make each movie "must-see". There's also too much content.
I never missed a single MCU movie in theatres EVER until Phase 4. I did not see Black Widow, Eternals or Thor 4 in theatres. It's not essential viewing anymore.
I think Ant-Man's final WW total starts with a 5, tbh.

I’m I right that even BA’s Tuesday wasn’t great?

A few of the video reactions I’ve watched seem…muted. Hard to tell if it’s because the movie was sad or if it’s because their reaction isn’t actually as positive as their tweets?
Kristina Harloff for example sounds over the moon in his tweet and in his video looks bored and says “oh well that’s just initial thoughts, I’ll review it later”.
Curious…

Snyder made some good casting choices, but he also made some bad ones (Lex Luthor).
But the SNyderverse has been dead since 2017. I think Snyder knows that; I think he got vindication when his cut of JL proved to be better then the threatrical release (and overal I am no Snyder fan) and has now moved on. The only ones expecting a return to the Snyderverse are his delusional fans.
Seems to me that he could do the right thing by his friend James Gunn and tweet his congratulations to him and pass the torch so his fans stop their crusade. Snyder has never made any effort to stop it, only inflame it.

No. Word was always that it had the same scores as Batgirl.

The "fans" on twitter think he will add jokes to everything. Rock wasn't kidding about hierarchy of power in the DC universe changing though.
I think the fact that The Rock has said nothing about this today probably indicates he was blindsided and feels a bit put out.
If he were keen on it he'd be saying "I TOLD YOU THE HEIRARCHY WOULD CHANGE, SEE BLACK ADAM".

A lot of people focusing on Gunn and forgetting Safran. Gunn is the creative head, and Safran is the executive head.
Gunn will approve the scripts and hire the creative teams, and Safran will run the business side of the studio.Safran can run a business and James Gunn knows a decent script. Gunn is filling the role that Snyder did at the start of the DCEU. If Snyder can give us Wonder Woman and Aquaman, I wouldn't be too worried about every Gunn movie being Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad. Gunn has more respect for the comics than that.

This film is apparently testing really well, so I can't see much changing with it?

So, are they going to try and merge the Reeves universe with the DCEU or what? Come to think of it, The Rock did say that he’d like Black Adam to meet Barry Keoghan’s Joker. One thing’s for sure, there’s definitely zero chance of Jared Leto coming back with Gunn at the helm.
I'd say very unlikely.
I can see an argument for The Batman Universe having to run it by Gunn as it could intersect with whats happening in the mainline DC Universe (similar, conventional stories - what if two different Mr Freeze's are the villains in two movies coming out close to eachother, etc.).
The Joker movies are so far removed from everything they're unlikely to cause any creative issues.

Black Adam’ Amasses $14M In First Two Days Overseas
A notable start on Thursday was India with $1M which marks the second biggest ever debut for Warner Bros and the biggest also for DC. The Diwali holiday is ahead.
Elsewhere, Mexico’s $850K Thursday start was 9% above Johnson-starrer Jumanji: The Next Level and 63% over his 2018 actioner Skyscraper.
In Australia, the $750K Thursday opening was 80% higher than Skyscraper and 87% above Shazam!

This seems be performing quite well, save for a few markets?- 1

Shang-Chi was considered a solid win?
I mean it's a bit chalk and cheese. I can't remember who said it, but it was a WB executive who said there are two types of hits - critical and financial.
Black Adam needs to be a financial success, Shang Chi didn't necessarily.

Just saw it. Ya’ll are nuts if you don’t think the Rock knew what he was doing with it. Audience cheered the mid credits scene, laughed the whole way through and everyone was buzzing afterwards.
Peak theatre experience here.
(Movie itself is nothing but dumb fluff, but a fun, numb two hours!)

Hoping this is leggy and manages to stretch to a $35m OW.
I have no idea what to expect overseas. Domestically I'm predicting $34m OW, and overall $115m domestic.
$250m worldwide would be okay, for a movie that was supposed to be released direct to streaming and had no marketing.
