  1. It's weird because I enjoyed Black Widow. It wasn't a masterpiece or anything but I enjoyed it just fine as standard Marvel fare. It helped that I really liked the new characters. They needed fresh, meaningful elements to make the film itself meaningful. For instance, without a character like Yelena Belova, who we know will play a part in the MCU going forward, you end up thinking "What did I just watch and why?". I see your point too. If that scene is the highlight for many then that says a lot about the reception if a scene like that didn't "save it".
  2. Thank you for this! As I told Ronin, clearly I was getting the wrong impression.
  3. That's encouraging! Thank you. I guess I was reading into people's comments wrong. I was getting kind of a "lukewarm" vibe. But last week before release is what counts. Got it! Thanks again, Ronin. You've been helpful on multiple occasions since I signed up here.
  4. 75%?? That would be wild. That would be the kind of drop I'd expect if its 2nd weekend was Eternals OW.
  5. I like that we're starting to get a steady flow of trailers for next year's films. Seems like it was taking a bit to get there, though the industry as a whole has slowed things down as we come out of Covid times.
  6. True, we don't know what would have been there instead of that scene. I suppose I'm just happy that we did indeed get what we got.
  7. Well put. Thank you my friend. I understand the sarcastic replies to my post because I didn't word it very well. I'm also quite exhausted with real world issues and just want to escape so maybe the politics that were always there just stand out more.
  8. Why is their sexuality even important? This is a comic book property. I couldn't care any less about that stuff when I'm watching movies and shows about superheroes. That's just my take. It's just a distraction. It's a not so subtle wink to the political discussion and identity politics going on in the real world (which I know is not new to films or other entertainment). Anyway, good takes from everyone about the writing and stuff. Like everything else, it's very subjective.
  9. Right?? Kevin Feige showing why he HAS to be so hands on, especially with lesser talent involved in making some of these films.
  10. Those movies are the gold standard. Nothing comes close. At all. Some of the greatest films ever made. Fellowship was just so magical to experience for the first time. All three were.
  11. Oh right! I forgot about this! I've been looking forward to it since the extras on the blu-ray are, predictably, lame. I miss the days of Lord of the Rings extended editions.
  12. I think at this point it's pretty safe to say Eternals is NOT opening over $100M. Presales aren't bad but they don't seem to be indicating anything over the biggest opening weekends we've already seen (Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Black Widow).
  13. Halloween Kills through day 10: Wednesday: $2.0M Thursday: roughly flat ($2M give or take several thousand) Weekend Friday: $4.6M Saturday: $6.7M Sunday: $4M Total: $15.3M (-69.1%)
  14. If HK behaves like Paranormal Activity 3 in 2011 Wednesday will drop around 25% from Tuesday. I'm predicting just a bit over 2 million.
  15. Given how one of the critiques of Eternals is that it packs a lot of story and exposition, I actually think sequels - if they happen - could be much better (I say "better" loosely because I still have no idea how good or not good this films is) with all the character work and world building over with. Feige wanted the Eternals in the MCU, and the characters and world of the Eternals didn't have the benefit of being slowly introduced within other Marvel properties, so this film just needed to happen. The rough spade work has been done, so to speak. Perhaps it gets a lot easier, and better, from here.
  16. They may be shorter in length though, which would be even more annoying than less episodes which are longer. Though I could be wrong and it could be 12 episodes, each with a good length. We'll see. Any guesses as to when this drops on Disney+? I'm thinking March, with Obi-Wan dropping in May.
  17. I for one LOVE Rogue One. Adore it. It seems to be very divisive but it's my favourite Disney Star Wars movie. Needless to say I also love the Cassian Andor character and glad that Lucasfilm is deciding to play a little more in the sandbox with him and his world. Looking forward to it!
  18. I know I'm beating a dead horse here but it's a travesty that a film like this is going to be available right away on streaming. Imagine saying to yourself "Nah, Imma stay on my couch and watch Dune for the first time at home". If this even comes close to being the next Lord of the Rings it needed to be seen exclusively in theatres.
  19. I think they've done splendid with their casting choices and directors. Unfortunately bad writing can bring everything down and that's where their hires haven't been inspired. At all. Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame worked because of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The Russos get a lot of credit, as they should, but it feels like hardly anyone talks about the backbone: the writers. Without people who can write films well, you have nothing.
  20. I love him. He's a rare breed nowadays and for that I love him all the more. Bear in mind I'm also a 50 year old woman. That, and I avoid Hollywood like the plague outside of their productions, if that makes sense. I will watch movies and TV shows (as long as they don't lecture me) but I actually don't care for the whole institution off stage. I watch their productions for my own entertainment and when I shut the TV off I'm shutting them all out of my life. It's all quite fake and poisonous.
  21. Fair enough. You're right. I just think someone like Mel Gibson isn't the only one guilty of shit (pardon my language). It's all about what gets found out and reported, and what doesn't. Hardly giving Mel a pass, mind you. I'll have to read further into this stuff you guys are talking about.
  22. Oh, and I'm also irked that I got spoiled this morning via a suggested news item on my friggin' phone! It used to be I had to go out of my way on the internet to be spoiled.
