  1. I think at the time Miyazaki was doing this film, he kept in mind that this was his last film and decided to go full force with the surrealism to make it more like an arthouse film.
  2. The number for true Friday is currently +70% from Thursday preview.... is it normal for movie to jump much from Thursday preview into true Friday?
  3. What is Surrealism in Film? The movement rejected logic and reason (as defined by modern society) in favor of unleashing the unconscious mind — as evidenced by dreams, free association, and other spontaneous methods — to reveal what they saw as the true functioning of human beings. Surrealist filmmakers used various techniques to break the rules of filmmaking, including unexpected juxtapositions, scenes that have no logical connection to the story, dream sequences, and non-linear plotting. https://filmlifestyle.com/what-is-surrealist-cinema/ filmmakers used various techniques to break the rules of filmmaking, including unexpected juxtapositions, scenes that have no logical connection to the story,nd non-linear plotting.
  4. Deadline reports it has around 2k location this weekend, and they predict it makes $8M over the weekend.... maybe that's too low? Considering its WOM is off the chart based on Twitter so far
  5. Critics Consensus With engaging human stories anchoring the action, Godzilla Minus One is one kaiju movie that remains truly compelling between the scenes of mass destruction. 98% RT (47 reviews) 100% Top critics I think this film is considered as limited release. So it already gets the requirement for cirtified fresh.
  6. If I remember correctly, Demon Slayer Mugen Train was released in 1k5 ish locations with both sub/dub version? If so, this film may has the similar case.
  7. Currently the film has 31 reviews on RT. For wide/limited release, it needs 80/40 reviews to get the certified fresh
  8. The metacritic users's score is 75 now. Pretty good. While the metacritic's critics score is still at 91. I notice the average total critics reviews for each movie there is not big comparing to RT. Maybe it's mostly top critics in metacritics
  9. Only 4 verified audience yet on RT tho, the sample is still too small. Based on Letterbox data and using RT standard, it should be around 85-90%
  10. Can you check The Boy and The Heron... Maybe because it's a too limited release so it is hard to check?
  11. CRITIC’S PICK ‘The Boy and the Heron’ Review: Hayao Miyazaki Has a Question for You The anime filmmaker returns at 82 with the enigmatic tale of a boy growing up amid war and fear, much as the director did. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/21/movies/the-boy-and-the-heron-review-hayao-miyazaki.html
  12. Thanks very much for your very helpful information. I also thought it was just an one day event on 22nd Nov in LA and NY, then people have to wait till 8th Dec for the nationwide release. So there would be around 8000 seats in total for this film everyday starting from this 22nd Nov till 8th Dec. Hopefully around 50% or more total seats will be sold each day. Anime still has a limited group of audience among the big casual audience nowaday.
  13. Yeah. At that time, I also don't think SA was a crowd pleasure. Nowadays, anime still only has limited group of audience, imagine 20 years ago.
  14. From 2001 till 2022, most animated feature winners got A or A+ cinemascore. 3 or 4 of them got B+, and one got C+
