  1. I mean... fans will react like fans most of the time. Opinions here although passionate sometimes are still more reasonable than what you see in Twitter and other social media.
  2. Most people are not downplaying the critics in the sense that their opinions is meaningless about how good the movie is, but it is just pointing out that the reception is indeed meaningless at the box office considering this is Illumination. If this has a lower than A Cinemascore then people can get worried about it's BO prospects.
  3. Are you really comparing this to Shazam 2? You know damn well that all this doom posting is anywhere close to reality. Let's see the CS first, because that is ALL that matters for Illumination movies.
  4. Minions has a 55% Critics and 49% audience in RT. That movie received an A CS and made 1.1B worldwide with solid legs. Despicable Me 3 had a similar pattern. Illumination has proved time and time again that all that matters is the reception of the kids going to see the movies.
  5. Man... What is even the ceiling for this thing at this point?
  6. Aside from a VERY small amount of directors, the GA don't have a clue about who is directing the movie they are going to see.
  7. The general public don't even know who tf directs Guardians movies.
  8. Does anyone know them personally or something to provide some insight? This sudden disappearence worries me a little. I hope everythings is okay with them and is just us reaching a little bit. Even though is just box office discussion online, it's almost impossible to not bond at some degree with people after so much talking everyday.
  9. That is exactly why I said "a couple of years early", I NEVER said 140M is not a lot of money. Let's also not ignore this is the final movie of the trilogy, the MCU brand is still very strong (for now) and the first two ones are very beloved. The Batman was the first entry of a movie that had to pay the sins of the disastrous BvS, was out of any big cinematic shared universe like MCU, had a very less GA friendly tone and was not PG-13 in a lot of places. The thing is: Batman and Spider-Man are strong enough IP's to create hype unto themselves, regardless of a strong shared universe behind them (better if has though) or the genre as a whole going crazy strong. Can you imagine a Guardians movie outside of the MCU, with different actors and with the superhero genre far behind it's peak doing reliable big numbers? I can't. That is what I am saying.
  10. This is very early of course and I think Guardians will stille be able to make something like 140M with good reception. But I think we are just a couple of years early from Batman and Spider-Man being again the only reliable big money makers apart from team up movies. Some movies will still break out and do a lot of money, but the average will go down a lot IMO.
  11. And most important: they were not MCU movies which are 100% guaranteed to be way more frontloaded than Avatar and Puss in Boots.
  12. I am not sure that especific comment was about presales though, it seemed to me more like the overall run. But it just how I interpreted anyway, I could be wrong.
  13. The late surge in presales and walkups were pretty much unprecedented I think...
  14. I saw John Wick 4 today. Almost perfect action movie, very impressive.
  15. If the international does good, it will not be based on the strenght of the IP, because it's a lot stronger domestic than overseas.
  16. D&D was very popular here in Brazil to anyone born in the 70s-90s because of the TV Show "Caverna do Dragão". But here is the thing though: no one knows that the show is based on D&D and most people don't even have a clue of what D&D really is, for us is just a show in the same vein as Hanna Barbera cartoons. I, for example, only discovered that Caverna do Dragão was actually based on D&D last year, I thought D&D was only a RPG game that americans liked.
  17. Not necessarily. It's an animation, so it has an immense advantage concerning legs compared to a extremely frontloaded superhero movie. It definitely needs very good word of mouth to get there, but not to the level of NWH I would say.
  18. Oh! I see. Yeah I imagined that it had some nuance to it because the hype is nowhere near Mario. Thanks, Keyser.
  19. I did not remembered that Sing 2 had such strong pre-sales or am I forgeting something important here?
