  1. What ever happened to slasher movies? It feels like horror nowadays is mostly supernatural.
  2. Gaga isn’t trying to touch Margot. This version of Harley is a totally different take on the character.
  3. I’m inclined to think the estimates are accurate based on all the online reactions I’m seeing. I’ve only seen a couple negative reactions in a sea of positive ones.
  4. He chose not to engage in class politics or race politics. A vague authoritarian threat must gain power from somewhere.
  5. Lee’s death scene was so poorly done. She shoves Cailee to the ground and then stands there long enough for her to take multiple photos? I just felt nothing when these characters died because they were so poorly constructed. No one seemed at all concerned with their families and no one in the group has thoughts on the war? The state of the country? Hatred for the president? Sorry, but it’s just not realistic for four people to be entirely apolitical during the entire trek. Grace Randolph’s point about the underground tunnels in the White House is so true too. If this is supposed to be alternate history than why the use of real footage and references to antifa? Just a real misfire all around.
  6. It is an action movie but without any context for what the war is being fought over, what each territory is about and with leads who are not compelling in any way the action just feels emotionally exhausting and loud.
  7. Expecting an awful CS for Civil War. The movie pulled a lot of punches and is the cinematic equivalent of empty calories.
  8. It’s a full on musical with song and dance numbers. Todd is just saying it’s still a Joker movie, and a serious film.
  9. People complained about the $200M budget but it looks and feels very expensive and well crafted.
  10. Giving people context about what precipitated a war =/= spoon feeding people what to think. I don’t understand why a lack of perspective or lack of politics is considered evolved when it could just as easily be called cowardly.
  11. Is character development and worldbuilding really "dumbing down" a plot?
  12. If it's an alternate history the movie itself should make it clear. Grace going after the worldbuilding is a totally valid critique, against some other less valid critiques and her own misconceptions.
  13. I mean Scream had Sidney encounter a new killer for like 5 movies in a row. I don’t think it needs to be 100% believable. These slasher series are a bit schlocky.
  14. It seems a bit more conventional compared to X and Pearl but that could also be because it’s somewhat more contemporary now that it’s set in the 80s.
  15. Then couldn’t he have told an ecological story or some other non-political disaster type of movie? It seems odd to call a movie CIVIL WAR, and then dodge the politics of the situation.
  16. Sorry, but I do think Garland is too apolitical in his framing. We’re just not at a moment in time when we can present a scenario like this without some actual political or societal commentary.
