  1. It's not but you can believe what you want, official budget was stated as $350m for Avatar 2
  2. 8.5/9.2/9.3 on Douban/Tiapaopao/Maoyan - you are saying it's bad? I understand that Chinese numbers can become weak due to current covid situation and citizens restrain themselves to going to closed packed places like cinemas now but that's other thing.
  3. China situation is changing daily at this point. Looking at what people that are close to Chinese BO market say in Chinese BOT thread current covid situation and how Chinese citizens react to it is not great for movie going experience now. But hey it's easy to just say 'Avatar is failure with covid or without covid...' as you do. We know you want this movie to failure that's nothing new, but at least try to do some reading about current factors that are targeting it in this market, especially when there are many great BOT users that explain recent situation going on in China with cinemas or how Chinese people still heavily restrain themselves to spend time in crowded closed space. Few weeks back we didn't even know if movie will release there at all. Wandering Earth 2 is more than month till release and movie going restrains that people now have may or may not change, we really don't know.
  4. Funny, because we saw many reactions that said they liked second one better than first one or reactions like Grace Randolph that hated first Avatar but really liked this one. It's already your personal opinion that movie failed critically and commercially while you didn't even watch it, and you don't know what numbers movie will do in long timeframe.
  5. You spending your time on internet funny forum in 2022 asking about funny strange blue cat people CGI movie from 2009 that nobody remember is contender for cultural impact
  6. From other interviews we already known Cameron made a pitch for sequels to Fox after first Avatar was released (around 2010-2012). In 2013 sequels were already greenlit, as they hired team to work on all scripts + next few years of pre-production and tech R&D and shooting started in 2017. Articles said he need $2B to break even (because 4th or 5th highest grossing movie in 2022 are all $2B+). They represent it like Cameron was making a movie budget pitch to studio recently which make no sense for a movie with active development and pre-production starting early 2013. You don't do movie budget pitch to studio after 7+ years of active work and principal photography and mocap is done. 4th or 5th highest grossing movies between 2010-2013 were at $1.3B. These clickbait articles made lot of clicks for sure, I'm not going to comment on how dollar was worth more at that time we can dump any other arguments and not agree with each other. Official budget for part 2 is $350m + add to that marketing costs. Based on that I'm speculating breakeven point could be around $1.3B.
  7. It's not like they only delayed Shazam, the same day it was announced Warner delayed Aquaman 2 which was mean to be released at same date that Shazam is now taking, March 17. They probably do some reshoots than just delay because of Avatar.
  8. He never said he need 2B to break even, that's what clickbait articles said.
  9. He made the story for 5 films so why it's strange? All scripts were written at same time so story and continuation should make sense.
  10. "In China, The Way of Water had been planned for 3,000 showings at 7pm local today, but ended up doing just 1,688 screenings per our information. This is a result of the ongoing Covid issues in the market where 73% of cinemas are open and there is a confidence issue amid the about-face from the government on the zero-Covid policy. The resultant sneaks, before official opening on Friday, were worth RMB 20M ($2.9M). We wrote yesterday that $100M was possible in China this opening weekend; we are now taking a more cautious stance, even if hope springs. Douban and Maoyan critical and social scores have not yet posted. "

  12. Saw this on reddit: http://english.entgroup.cn/boxoffice/cn/daily/
  13. Idk, just saw this new teaser/trailer and it didn't look too impressive. But first one was a hit so this one should be too
  14. I know some peeps are really focusing on reviews, but I always was the type that just like to see the movie myself first and then some written and YouTube reviews for fun.
  15. Not to poke you or anything but you really are expecting 80% drop in revenue compared to first Avatar in Japan?
  16. At my cinema when you order tickets online its clearly stated you are buying 'IMAX 3D HFR' ticket
  17. Cameron lost opportunity to put James Bond cameo in end credits, that would have worked
  18. People are polarized these days; some will protest some will follow gov even if it means another year of lockdown
