  1. Most people don't watch movies based on poster art anymore. And the studios are painfully aware of this.
  2. Seems pretty low overall, although likely a bad indicator of the "real" gross. I'm not really getting "breakout of the summer" vibes from it, though.
  3. Why not do it now and get started hyping it quicker? They gain nothing for waiting and the early trailer is already out.
  4. That's lovely but Spy Family is also "IP". I don't know why I even bother, box office reporters are fucking STUPID now.
  5. Oh sure, everyone needs good screenwriters. Also, didn't Annihilation get a times 3 multiplier? It would get it close to EEAO if that's what it actually manages.
  6. Oh? So it just didn't die in its second week, even without the PDFs? Well, that's probably the single biggest hit it will take so it actually did overperform.
  7. IF that was Civil War's real drop and not some overly optimistic number A24 put out that's a lot better than the doomer "this movie is DOA after opening weekend" line that was popular here for a while. When does it actually lose its PLFs?
  8. Most modern horror isn't scary because it relies solely on gore and jump scares. Now The Lighthouse, THERE was a disconcerting film.
  9. I'm assuming this means Civil War actually won the weekend.
  10. IF this does somehow completely tank rather than merely disappointing, it would point out that Superbowl trailers are an utter fucking waste of money.
  11. Radio Silence doesn't need horror stars. It needs a radioactive mutant koala that drops out of trees and sucks people's blood.
  12. That statement really makes me want to see Man from UNCLE, not so much the current film.
  13. Lupita wasn't super overpriced either. The issue is casting people like Chris Hemsworth or Tom Holland or whatever who are expensive but also won't move tickets as an animated voice.
  14. The 1986 movie was dead serious by 1986 animation standards. Emphasis on DEAD. I'm sorry if it doesn't live up to the standards of Nolan's Oppenheimer but it felt "mature" to actually watch as a kid. I very much doubt this movie will have the balls to do what it did.
  15. I hate Taylor Swift and desperately hope she's not in the movie. Getting sick of seeing her ramrodded into everything for a cheap pop. It's like she's a female version of the mid 2010s Rock except much worse.
  16. Tornadoes don't have the elan of giant sharks. I see zero need to see this, esp. since we're not getting the original cast.
  17. Shadow is a big deal even if the exact plot of Sonic Adventure 2 isn't.
  18. If Shrek 5 is actually good it would more than cover their salaries. More upfront cost but better ceiling. That said Dreamworks needs to move away from high priced celebs for its newer franchises because it won't be able to pay them as easily after cost cuts.
  19. I'm skeptical Paramount has a full marketing budget for its movies left to compete with Univeral anyway. That "trailer in space" shtick was the best they had. Even GOOD Paramount movies have fallen flat on their face (Honor Among Thieves). It's pretty obvious they can't compete.
  20. I mean it is Paramount, the studio that thinks people want Whedon style quip dialogue in a giant fighting robot movie. It's the kind of brilliance that brought them to the edge of the reaper's scythe.
  21. Melissa Barrera is not a very big name. That said getting rid of her AND Jenna Ortega on Scream was fucking stupid.
  22. I still would have liked to see one of the DC DTV animated movies of what Zack Snyder was actually going to do with Justice League. He was the only one who had a "grand plan" for DCEU, even if it was never actually made. That said bringing him back would be more trouble than it's worth and WW 84 basically killed any chance of the DCEU continuing.
