  1. That's a rather prosaic number for this movie. Not a "bad" debut if it holds but will probably barely go over 100 mil with the chunk Kong takes from it next week. The actual crap debut is Immaculate.
  2. Chimpire is just embarassing at this point. Wasn't he the biggest Flash cheerleader? Like he was practically claiming it was as good as the Dark Knight.
  3. Look, quit digging a bunch of disgusting stuff off Reddit and let the series end in piece. The negative reviews I found on Metacritic and RT don't mention these absurd conspiracy theories. Hell I remember when Fury Road came out some people were genuinely pissed that Mad Max was upstaged by a female character. There's none of that here. There's not even the 2016 manufactured controversy. Just...crickets. THIS is how a series dies. Not when Last Jedi style shenanigans happen or with a Dominion style "not very good but people still watch" installment. It's when the original writers and stars are mostly gone and the fanbase clearly did not pass to a new generation.
  4. I suspect Ghostbusters is rather soft and kids/adults are more interested in the other 2 movies still. Like there wasn't a huge migration of interest to it once it actually dropped and some people would rather rewatch the other 2 movies.
  5. There isn't much of a current Ghostbusters fanbase. Certainly not one that's going to bust down the doors for a film with no Ramis, no Reitman, and no Moranis. That's a much bigger problem then whatever manufactured political controversy you're trying to push.
  6. I really wish people on here would stop dissing the Ghostbusters fanbase. Most of us are over 40 and realize we are no longer "in the demo". Ghostbusters was not a thing most kids 2000s and onwards got into because it stopped getting a lot of merch after the late 90s when Extreme Ghostbusters ended. The fandom is one of 80s/90s kids and very few people were deeply invested in the 2016 film. So be it. Some things have a single generation fandom (Back to the Future is a good example) and should be left as such.
  7. That is one hell of a messy, ugly looking poster. Can't they just show a frozen Ghostbuster logo or a Slimer with a warm hat on?
  8. Meh. 4.7 is very slightly better than what I thought but not terribly illuminating for the overall weekend trajectory.
  9. I don't see how this resembles RoS despite its faults. I'm getting more an Aquaman 2 "sequel I don't care about" vibe rather than the burning contempt I had for RoS. Maybe it would be RoS if McKenna Grace's character was the result of Gozer possessing her dad while Carrie Coon and he had sex, but they obviously didn't do that.
  10. WB seriously needs to start throwing huge mountains of cash at Gerwig/Villeneuve or their theatrical is screwed for everything but Batman 2. (which was delayed anyway, meaning they're stuck in debt city even longer...)
  11. I don't think this is "disastrous" audience reception but it's not "tear down the theatre door, I need this on the big screen" either.
  12. When do we get actual analysis of Civil War presales to see if it makes 20 mil?
  13. I have noticed a weird paradox with movies lately. Movie super breaks out=no sequel announced. Maverick, Barbie, and now Dune part 2. Movie does "okay"=immediate sequel. Dominion (still did 1 bil but was basically the bare minimum of what a Jurassic film should do) Afterlife, Mutant Mayhem, and others. Why?
  14. Ghostbusters 2016 was not good even if certain groups accusing it of being the worst film of all time were clearly acting in bad faith.
  15. Not having a written script is a terrible idea for a VFX heavy movie. But then I also hate NuSNL and most modern stand up acts so I clearly wasn't the target audience for the 2016 film.
  16. I absolutely loved the Real Ghostbusters and enjoyed Afterlife. That said, they should have "banked the win" for Afterlife and tried to do a sequel NOT set in New York that had the new Ghostbusters traveling around the world to stop a new threat with the help of Winston (who bankrolls the team now, so it makes sense) and Janine. MAYBE do an opening set in NY and have the nostalgia stuff there before opening up the universe. Nobody was clammering for the return of Walter Peck and the Library Ghost could have been worked in for the new opener somehow. I WOULD mark out for Rick Moranis showing up again as a Ghostbuster but that's clearly not happening, and Ramis can't appear anymore, so "the old team" is actually very limited now so I would prefer it be restricted to Winston himself as much as possible.
  17. Meh. The original team isn't alive anymore and we already did what should have been the wrap up/homage to Ramis. Anything after that feels morbid.
  18. Ghostbusters would probably be doing better if Dune 2 wasn't still playing. It's hype got shot in the head once the LISAN AL GHAIB train started rolling.
  19. What exactly is the game plan for future Sonic movies if Paramount gets scrapped and sold for parts?
  20. Memes also don't matter that much ultimately. People on here desperately tried to meme the big head guy from Green Lantern. If Avatar were actually culturally irrelevant people wouldn't pay the massive IMAX ticket price at all.
  21. You REALLY want to die on the "kids don't like Mario" hill, don't you?
