Strong is relative cause it's still not certain if THG can break 250M WW...... even if it gets to 300M WW it's not some great result for a movie with a 100M budget. I suspect the Hollywood strikes has damaged theaters to such a degree that ultimately it's a pyrrhic victory in the end for the guides and the studios. Everyone is going to be screwed if theaters die because of the strikes.

Comic book fans cared about Iron Man and that matters the most................ original screenplay is way harder to get right than adapted because it's really hard to write a good story. And to write good characters. Having the comics to adapt from removes much of that difficulty because even if you make massive changes to the comic stories, you have the greatest hits of the comic industry as your backbone. If you want to pick the shitty unpopular characters of the comic books as the basis of your movies, all you are doing is basically being struck writing original screenplay. And it is possible to get that right, but also way more possible to get it wrong too.

Then the MCU becomes essentially no different from the DCEU............ one of the biggest reasons for the MCU being a success is that the movies are intertwined and the general public feel the obligation to see them all. It is probably true that this intertwining is increasingly becoming unsustainable and a burden. But self contained series means that it's going to be way harder to sell those Blue Bettles.

I do realize people in the entertainment industry loves to stick their head in the sand, but ultimately no matter how much they fight it they can never escape the gravity that is the need for Hollywood to be a business. As long as the MCU makes money, Iger and his people would be desperate to do anything for it, but what happens when it stops making money?
-
Honestly, people in Disney should start having conversations as to what plan B they have if the MCU is permanently unprofitable. Cause if they wait till Kang Dynasty bombs before they start discussing it, it will be too late. This is why I have been suggesting Disney consider doing stuff like buying Hasbro, cause it will give them new IPs to play with. But of course how they can get the money to make such a purchase, I have no idea.

If people in Marvel continue to stick their head in the sand and pretend everything is fine with a new coat of paint, we will eventually reach that stage. We are not there yet but ultimately Disney is not a charity organization and must make decisions based on future revenue rather than past glories. Pirates of the Caribbean got shitcanned even though it NEVER remotely was close to bombing like The Marvels.
-
It is not. Cause it is not a reach to say that the MCU plans post Endgame has been a flop and hype has been on a steep decline. At this current stage why would Cap America 4 and Thunderbolts fare much better than The Marvels when they are built on the same rotten foundations? By now people should be aware that random superheroes fighting a random supervillain is no longer a winning formula. The multiverse saga has been a resounding, undeniable flop yet Marvel continues to march forward with it even with countless reshuffling of plans.

Is getting a never ending string of bombs really a more healthy solution? The reality the MCU is in right now is that it's in the same state as the DCEU, if not worse. At some point Marvel really needs that Star Wars break and a long period where no Marvel films are released so that they can calibrate their future direction. What exactly does Marvel and Disney hope to achieve in releasing movies which most people can see bombing years away?

Everyone can build a bridge, but to build a bridge at a reasonable timeframe and budget while making sure it never collapses requires pros. Is spending 100M to turn a D level movie into a C level one really worth it? That's the reality, at some point you need to start asking if it really is worth it to polish a turd. Rather than just let the turd out and start afresh. Refusing to ask this question is how we ended up with The Flash/Marvels/Indy V.
-
That's what people are discussing. Why are they delaying the movies instead of canning them? Like what do they hope to achieve with the delays? We already saw the results of The Marvels which got delayed repeatedly and have money poured into only to still be a historical bomb. That's the worst part, these Hollywood companies keep trying to polish the turd instead of just letting the turd be out and move on.
-
Someone remind me, when has a movie been delayed for 1 year and yet turn out to be a smash hit? Look at Avatar 2, it ended up being delayed for god knows how many years before it turned out fine. 1 year of extra development sounds really too little to rebuild a shitty movie, all you can do is to turn a D level movie to a C level one or a C level one into a B level. Is it really worth it? We have already seen it with The Flash, Indy V and now The Marvels.

Hollywood needs to learn from the video game industry, projects get cancelled all the time there even for games which are near complete. It's better to not release shit than to damage future products by releasing shit. Bah bah bah think of the people who worked on the movies, well perhaps they shouldn't have made a bad movie if they didn't want it to be shitcanned.
