  1. I know it’s disappointing but I don’t think it’s fair to throw away years of hard work over just two animated films underperforming on opening weekend.
  2. Honestly I think it’s just lack of interest in either film, not two films eating into each other. Plus I know it was a while ago, but maybe the masses got their fill with Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 in the same summer.
  3. The first released in March and attached to KFP4. The second trailer was released on the 11th of June and attached to the significantly bigger Inside Out 2 and DM4. It also has more views than the first one on YouTube. The animals talk buddy. It’s a literal fact that they talk. Let’s move on.
  4. That’s why they play them in front of movies, YouTube videos, streaming shows, social media, etc. It’s ok if you didn’t know the animals talk but…I think we’ve established that DreamWorks didn’t exactly keep it a big secret.
  5. That’s why studios release more than one trailer, as well as various ads. Plus the cast doing promo to promote the talking animal film. They didn’t hire Pedro Pascal and Catherine O’Hara to bark and quack.
  6. I thought it looked beautiful… But kids do like stuff like Cocomelon, Paw Patrol, and Bluey. Maybe animation that’s not very traditional doesn’t quite grab their attention the same way or isn’t really appreciated the way it is by adults/animation fans.
  7. It’s “prostituted” because it’s super popular and very universal. This is genuinely the first time I’ve seen people try to claim that people, especially literal children, don’t like talking animals lmao.
  8. DreamWorks never really reached the heights of Disney/Pixar (or Illumination) in terms of box office, prestige, name recognition, etc. They spent most of the 2010s doing sequels and IP films. Their last original film before the pandemic Aboninable, which made less than 200M. The only other two originals were Turbo (280M) and The Croods (590M). They were very much reliant on the Shrek/Madagascar franchises and children’s book adaptations.
  9. I think DreamWorks lack of name brand among the general audience plays a role. If this was Pixar’s The Wild Robot or Illumination’s The Wild Robot the numbers would probably be bigger. Of course Pixar doesn’t do adaptations (yet?) and if this was an Illumination film it would have a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes at best instead of a 98%.
  10. I guess Hollywood runs on sugar, spice, and everything nice.
  11. Why do people keep casting him in stuff outside of Marvel? I feel like there’s more than enough evidence to show that he adds literally no value to a film’s box office. And it’s not like he’s a critical darling either. Someone who didn’t know better would think he adds negative value based on his track record. Everything he does outside of the MCU is a financial disappointment at best, and he’s not exactly starring in A24 films for the prestige.
  12. Venom: The Last Dance threepeat incoming!
