  1. I mean, it's still not a good performance lol just the headline is misleading
  2. Because they didn't lose that cash. It's made up money. Welcome to capitalism
  3. It looks bad because of the write down. Basically because of them losing the NBA rights, they had to say that their linear networks are not worth as much as theyy thought and so they need to write off a loss per accounting principles. In reality, their operating profit i.e. how much money they actually make from their business, was a 1.8 billion. They also brought down their debt by 1.8 billion. That's not to say it was a good quarter, but they are far from having to declare bankruptcy
  4. I don't thinke these guys know how business works lol
  5. Nah they had a matching rights clause in their contract, so they do have some standing. Probably ends with the NBA giving them some cash to end the suit
  6. It would lower overhead tho as the linear standalone company would be under different owners. Not to mentioned the streaming and movie business would get rid of the heavy debt burden it is currently in, creating even more savings
  7. About one tenth of the Hispanic population was watching soccer 4+ hours of soccer last Sunday (probably an underestimate considering watch parties). If you don't think that has an impact on the box office of a movie that had 25% of it's audience be Hispanic then I don't know what to tell you
  8. An average of 9.5 million watched the Euros from 3-5pm and then an average of 12 million watched the copa américa final from 8ish to midnight. For comparison, Game 7 of the NHL finals averged 7.66 million viewers Game 5 of the NBA finals averged 12.2 million The final of the mens NCAA tournament averaged 14.8 million
  9. Stock holders care. We're not that far removed from Disney having a proxy board fight because a major stock holder was unhappy they were spending too much money on streaming. In a high interest era, Money isn't cheap anymore. Stockholders are not going to be happy watching apple burn hundreds of millions of dollars on a non core business when they are losing market share in their biggest market.
  10. I thought the $100 million budget was for both part 1 and 2. If it's for each, then...
  11. Ratings are up from last season because last season the finals were on TNT whereas this year's it's on ABC. Compared to the last time it was on ABC, it's down like 30%. Now, I do think it's a factor in Canada but considering the game started at 8pm, doubt it was too much of a factor for a family movie.
  12. Well yeah because the subsequent DS films were just episodes thrown together not actual films
  13. It's not bad in a vacuum but when investors expect yoy growth every year, it is definitely seen as disappointing not to be able to outsell previous generations. To be fair though, consoles have mostly become avenues to sell first party games. Though with Sony and Microsoft porting all of their big hits to the PC, it's definitely lost some of its importance.
