I think his "It is a mess, narratively and tonally", is more telling than "at leas it was refreshingly fun, entertaining and not boring". Also it seems he didn't like Hault
I can't imagine anyone thinking it is a horror film after watching those ridiculous action heavy trailers. So people got what they expected. Silly action movie
Some people are angry it retconned 28WL (Paris thing), though Boyle himself told that's not true. The infection just was contained. But some still believe it's a lame excuse not to give us worldwide pandemic situation.
Oh well, its A Quiet Place Day One all over again: late embargo, good RT score, meh user score, marketing team hiding what's the movie realy about. But it still got B+. Which wil not be the case here, I guess? At the same time Letterboxd score keeps going up, 3.7/5 now
She also didn't rewatch the first movie but guessed it was more commercial than this)) It's funny how memories can be tricky. I rewatched it recently (original 4:3 fullscreen version) and didn't remember it to look so...rough and artsy)
The more I know about this movie, the more worried I become. I didn't like JP3 at the time, but it's a ok rewatch, fine nothingburger movie with fun dino action scenes and not much else. And now it looks like they just injected more dino action and turned it into mindless attraction park thing.
What a weird choice.
January already has Soulm8te (Jan 2), 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (Jan 16) and Send Help (Jan 30). The movie is ready. Is Black phone 2 such a big threat in October?
I'm not sure you live in US to claim there is no marketing push)
Anyway, good word of mouth is more important than good RT score a couple of days earlier.
