I also would not be surprised if we don't get a Mando s4 prior to any combo movie since the way season 3 ended it kinda works as a finale for the time being. What I am curious about is how Skeleton Crew ties into the big picture

If the Mandoverse movie is to include Ahsoka, a second season of her show is required first so, I don't know,

I also hope a season 2 solves the pacing and energy problem the show has. It just never goes into second or third gear and several things take far longer than they should to resolve and so we get far less accomplished than we should in 8 episodes.

The inability of the show to give us anything meaningful in movement on the Baylan plotline is bizarre. There's long-game planning and then there's unreasonably dragging things out. We should at least have gotten some ideas of what he's up to, if the show always intended for his plotline to be a multi-season arc. And yes, a recast is a must. It's not like 50-something stoic Brits are in short supply

I don't get the hype over the Oppenheimer score. It's good but nowhere near the level of the fawning it gets

The problem with Baylan is the show is extremely slow-playing his angle. By the end of this episode we should have known exactly what he intends to do and the episode would have given the heroes the dilemma of choosing between stopping Baylan and stopping Thrawn. A lot of the episodes cover like 2/3 of the ground they should, and things feel stretched. It honestly kinda is the fault of Episodes 3/4 not being a single episode which they really should have, which denied us more time to find out what exactly is going on in Peridea

Yeah it lacked propulsive energy.

My assumption is Ahsoka will have to choose between helping Sabine/Ezra + stopping Baylan vs. stopping Thrawn/The Great Mothers and will choose the former Allowing Thrawn to escape to the galaxy far far away for a second season

It didn't qualify since it was co-produced by an American production company and the listed producers are both American (one of whom is Kathleen Kennedy). Plus the director was American, the screenwriter was South African/British, it was originally intended to be a Universal production starring Johnny Depp, etc.

His more recent ones are hit-or-miss from what I understand, but the trifecta of Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, and Hamlet are great

I do think there was heavy over reliance on the Volume this episode. This was a brand new world with it's own mythology and setting and it just didn't feel the slightest bit tactile

To be clear I thought the episode in and of itself was fine. Pretty much a setup episode. I just think if they're going to be going heavy on Nightsister stuff it'd be nice if they hadn't killed off their main Nightsister characters in random side projects years ago It was nice to hear Lars' voice again

You know, given what the destination world in this episode is, and the dollops of Nightsister lore in it and implied to come, it sure would have been nice if the Filoni Brain Trust in their infinite wisdom hadn't killed off Asajj Ventress in a random novel several years ago to serve the character arc of a guy who was barely in the CW show and hasn't been seen since, just because they felt obligated to showcase their cut CW ideas in some form. Cause that decision, bad as it was at the time, seems to be aging rapidly worse now.

The show heavily plays as a sequel to 1) Rebels, and 2) Several years of backstory that we get the barest hints at in dialogue, namely that Ahsoka 3) previously tried to train Sabine in some Jedi arts, and 4) that Ahsoka apparently refused to help Sabine when the Purge of Mandalore happened and Sabine lost her whole family as an apparent consequence Oh and 5) Jacen has been hanging around clearly force sensitive but Ahsoka seemingly has never offered to train Jacen herself or told Hera "hey you obviously must know Luke Skywalker cause you've been a General for years that guy is a solid dude maybe you might want to have him train Jacen if Jacen is interested?" Putting aside the Rebels/TCW connections, it in many ways feels like a Season 2 where Season 1 was written out fully but never actually shot or aired.

To be honest, while it is decently easy enough to follow along without having watched any TCW or Rebels, it seems like the show is playing very fast and loose in a few places and just giving the briefest bits of explanation to non-alumni. The show is definitely made with those alumni in mind.

If by darker you meant the original version of the film story had Jyn and Cassian survive

The episode in my opinion definitely leaves it completely open as to whether it really is Ghost Anakin communing with his apprentice or if it's her subconscious finally taking a minute to simmer and play out her personal fears and confusions in front of her in order for her to reach an understanding (a la Kylo halluncinating his dad in Episode 9) And you know what? It doesn't matter, and it's something neither the show nor Filoni ever need to address or clarify. To harken back to a different mega franchise: "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”

Feel like the show is constantly almost there but not quite. A bunch of good stuff, but always not quite gelling or going over the critical mass into great.

You said it's not "as American" a story which is only true if you consider a movie to be more "American" if it is necessarily more political. The content, setting, plotlines, background material, etc. of The Revenant are just as "American", it's simply telling a different kind of "American" story.
