Japan needs to cool it. The 20 million dead Chinese might want to have a word with them.

Any Saturday numbers?
EC says $34m for Barbie and $18.5 for Oppenheimer.

Remember those dailies leading up to Endgame? CM was doing crazy numbers.

My parents and their friends (all in their 70s) are going to see Oppenheimer this afternoon. None of them have gone to a movie since before the pandemy.

Hilarious that $45 million is closer to what we expected Oppenheimer to make on its FIRST weekend.
I keep being baffled at its performance.

Elon Musk has mocked Barbie for whatever and Oppenheimer for being boring and also agreed with OpenAI (ChatGPT) CEO Sam Altman that the film is not inspirational for physicists (way to get the wrong lesson from the movie tech bros).
so this is all Streisand Effect for both moviesThat is not at all the Streisand effect. The movies were both blockbusters before their opinions were shared.

Threads just updated on IOS with a chronological user following and translation of posts btw; now it just needs trending topics with hashtags and real time search to fully take over.
Threads has lost like 70% of its user engagement over the last week and a half. It is boring as hell.

I cannot fathom a 3-hour WWII drama grossing over $80 million in its opening weekend. What the fuuuuck. Over/under Inception domestically?

It’s also been going on for a decade, and has seeped into all aspects, good and bad, of pop culture. I know a bunch of folks who just go cause “it’s the new Marvel movie”, and not like they know the whole backstory or characters.
And I am anecdotally talking about people folks would consider GA.
I just feel like, at this point, you’re either on board for a new Marvel movie or you’re not. 🤷♂️

Marvels biggest roadblock is the Plus factor of having to explain Kamala and Monica’s appearances to the GA without it having to feel like homework. So far Phase 4/5 didn’t really have that problem, as Quantumania fell apart due to being an awful movie but Strange 2 WOM problems seems to partially be how they handled Wanda but that was primarily from uberfans and not so much the GA. If Kamala and Monica are able to mesh without confusing the GA, it’ll be fine.
I was feeling big on Hunger Games a few months ago as the books were huge in my generation. Every middle schooler knows the YA book movie craze of 2011-15. However, the trailer hasn’t been catching on fire on social media and seems most likely to get the short end of the stick. The biggest issue from Dune 2 and Hunger Games is the PLF and screen space issues. Pretty sure Dune 2 is hogging IMAX until Hunger Games, but we could get a NWH/Matrix situation in which Matrix just got imax and NWH got the other big screens.
Is GA even a factor for Marvel movies anymore? They are 32 films deep at this point.

All right I'm going to stand up for Eric and cap even though our heads have bumped one another a few times.
The entire Genesis of not getting into politics here about sound of freedom is that there's an entire thread that is open where you can do that. There's members here that don't want to hear about all the political conspiracy theories about the movie and there's members here who only want to talk about the political agenda and conspiracy theories about the movie.
So they have asked us to keep that rhetoric out of the daily box office numbers threads and that seems very fair and reasonable to me. Not that my opinion matters anymore than the rest of you, I'm just saying I get why they want to keep that kind of talk out of here.
As I mentioned there's an entire thread about sound of freedom where you can go talk about anything. Just keep the daily number thread about the daily numbers that's all they're asking.
And I totally understand and respect that. My beef is that I received a warning for my ONE post in the thread. It wasn’t even for a forum rule. It was because I “belittled” QAnon by calling the belief that this movie is not really being seen by people a conspiracy theory.
This happened earlier in the summer when I got a warning for “belittling” something about a mod’s specific political views. That is absolute bullshit.
I’ve said my peace and now I’m done.

Moderation
Sound of Freedom’s politics is only allowed to be talked about in the Sound of Freedom thread. We have told you all this many times. Please take the conversation elsewhere.
Look, I know you live on this message board, but not everybody reads every post or comment. I come here MAYBE once a day. It is absurd to think that everybody sees your rules for everything at all times.

I'm going to have to laugh at the obvious stench of money laundering if Sound of Freedom somehow sees another miniscule drop or increase this weekend even though Barbenheimer is forcing it (and everything else, really) out of bigger auditoriums. Already eyebrow-raising that a number these "sold out" shows have been proven to not have that many people in them to begin with.
This Blueanon conspiracy nonsense

Has anyone in this forum attended a showing of SOF? Are there actually people in the seats watching the film? The numbers for it are absurd and I struggle to believe they are realistic. I think I will go see DR in Dolby on Sunday afternoon and peak my head into a SOF screening to see for myself.
It is the only movie I have seen people talk about. My family has gone to see it, my friend group at dinner last night couldn’t stop talking about it.
Everything on my Facebook feed (local people) is either Sound of Freedom or Carlee Russell.

Realistically speaking you could buy a hundred tickets to any movie that you wanted to and give them away to a woman's shelter or people on the street or your friends or your family or strangers.
Or to flouncing gay guys named Chaz who isn’t battered but will find a man to beat this bussy up like it owes them money

Maybe people just think it’ll open this weekend? I dunno.

Netflix has a long way to go before it compares to the slaughterhouse that Napster was to the music industry.

TMNT has been on a roll for a while now. The last two animated TV shows and the animated Netflix movie were really, really good. I’m excited for this new one too.

When are the dates? If it drops on September (D+), it will likely be another Disney bomb as Japan release is on August.
I’m not sure. I’m just estimating based on recent other Pixar titles that released in June.
Lightyear: September 13
Toy Story 4: October 8
Incredibles 2: November 6
Cars 3: November 1
Finding Dory: November 10
Inside Out: November 3
Elemental is not making money so they will not wait until November to release it on home video.- 1
