  1. I found it qa fitting entry into the series. Well placed characters throughout and the leads do their part. Sure, the anarchy vibe is a bit obtuse, but that's part of the charm. The soundtrack was really well done as well and lent itself to the mood of the film. Not a must see, but if you enjoyed 1 and 2, may as well see 3 ! C+/B-
  2. It was okay. I think they were going for a 'Twins' vibe, but not enough scenes to let the rock shine as the dumb oaf. He also fell in and out of character. It was an okay movie and I'll give it a ... C ... rental / Netflix
  3. It was surprisingly good. I feel it dragged out a little bit as though they needed to hit that 90 min mark. Some tense scenes but the ending was lackluster. C+
  4. I liked it. I thought the film didn't try too hard to be anything other than mindless fun. The acting was passable. I'll give it a B-
  5. I gave this movie an F. From the opening scene with dory I was very annoyed with the voice of the character and the little fish itself. Something rubbed me the wrong way. When she explained her memory problems, they were a mix of short term, but than also threw in the typical adhd joke ... 'oh is that the color purple' which distracted her. I forgave that scene and continued on. Sure enough, dory brought this memory issue up every single time, further annoying me. I gave it the benfit of the doubt and thought the side characters would pick up the slack. 20 minutes in, formulaic, bland. Spit joke off a turtle ... no laughs. 40 minutes in, nothing interesting. I checked out after that. Finally the seals showed up for a brief moment of comedic relief. The squid was funny and underutilized. We spent $200 on the day out with this movie. An F.
  6. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had me captivated from the beginning outside the hotel and kept me intriuged until the end where it sort of left a bad aftertaste. I'd grade it an A if the ending was a bit tighter, but I'll go with a B since it was a solid flick for 3/4's.
  7. This movie had me almost balling my eyes out. I thought I was going through menopause. I normally don't get choked during movies, but watching his physical health detoriate was heart breaking. My mom was a mess, she was crying the entire movie. Something about the movie seemed to tug the heart strings. Asides from the deterioration of the body which was well documented and executed great ... the rest of the movie wasn't up to par. If the rest of the movie had as big an emotional impact it probably would have been one of the best movies I watched, but the meandering and untouched areas left something on the table. B
  8. Saw it in 2D. Parents didn't want to see 3D. Not sure if that makes any difference. I haven't read the book and I saw about half of the Desolation of Smaug ... I don't know the characters that well or much of the clans/races. With that said, I found it enjoyable. I really liked the battle sequences. In a lot of movies the bad guy/s tend to get beat really easily, but in this one that fight with the one guy on the ice went for a while and legolas was in there as well fighting. I liked that I wasn't sure if they would actually beat them. I got a bit confused as to who was what, what was the importance of which relationships and where the heck the bears and birds came from, but as I stated, I was never an avid follower of the sixology. Thorin going into madness just seemed more like he was being a brat. A cool scene was when the floor turned gold and he was getting sucked into the greed, but for the most part it was just poorly done. The entire logistics of the fight was quite strange, couldn't really figure out where everyone was coming from. The scottsman as the red haired dwarf was good stuff, the dwarves were slow but powerful, that definitely showed. It was 2h 25m or so, normally I get ancy during longer films but this one was enjoyable. That one guy who didn't want to fight and dressed up as a lady, that could have been handled better. I thought for sure he was going to somehow become a traitor and do something crazy, but it never happened. Just a few random thoughts. Overall an enjoyable movie. B Edit : That scene with the ghosts and the guy from the matrix and that other pretty actress, I totally didn't know what that was about. I also wanted gandolf to pull of some insane magic, but I guess it's not in the book.
  9. I searched the forums ... didn't come up Kingdom of Heaven (2005) Troy (2004) Alexander (2004) King Arthur (2004)
  10. Yes, the intelligence of each character was inconsistent. Jeff Daniels was teaching Jim Carrey how to read in the first movie, this move, Jim Carrey was teaching Jeff Daniels how to say "subtle" properly. Jim Carrey was also pretty good with a smartphone, knowing to get higher ... knowing how to put his own wallpaper in the daughters phone and have his phone number programed in there.
  11. There was nothing funny happening for the majority of the film. For the first 10 minutes I got excited and felt nostalgic and I couldn't wait for the big laughs that myself and the audience would be enjoying. 1h 50m later everyone got out of their seat and exited as though it all never happened. They went full retard. You never do that. The Farrelly Bros. rely on the original formula to draw up the new script and it was hit, miss, hit, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, almost hit, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, the end. The audience was a good barometer on how I felt. A sporadic 'HA!' every 5-10 minutes from one part of the theater or another. Nobody laughing in unison. The digital era doesn't help one bit. Nothing redeemable here.
  12. Batman Begins and Memento are my favorite 2. A The Prestige / Inception are really good. B+ The Dark Knight didn't do it for me. TKDR I haven't watched the whole thing through. Less comic book like, boring crime thrillers with a batman coating, in my opinion.
  13. There's no indication from other novermber releases around $50m non-animation making more than 3x multi's aside from james bond. $150m seems solid. Possibly $175ish depending on what other movies do.
  14. Hunger Games is out in 2 weeks. Might cause issues with Interstellar, maybe not though since 75% were 25yrs and older. I am personally never going to watch Interstellar as it doesn't appeal to me. I loved Batman Begins and Inception though, but this movie seems a bit more dry. Me and my old man were watching the trailer for the movie and it was uninspired. November is a bad month unless it's a huuuge popcorn flick, mostly animation that rules with 4x multipliers. http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/month/?mo=11&p=.htm
  15. I was 10 when these came out, probably 11-13yrs old watching on VHS ... Movies Seen : 37 Batman Returns Waynes World Lethal Weapon 3 Basic Instinct (me and my friends were trying to get our hands on this) A league of their own Under Seige White men can't jump The last of the Mohicans Scent of a Woman Death becomes her Far and Away My Cousin Vinny Passenger 57 Encino Man Captain Ron
  16. Pick 'em as I see 'em in the Box office 2009 list, so in no particular order ... A - Movies Twilight (Yeah I know, but I had a thing for Kirsten Stewart at the time) Star Trek Sherlock Holmes District 9 Watchmen My Bloody Valentine (This surprised me) The Hurt Locker Adventureland A Perfect Getaway (This movie was a nice surprise, good thriller) Moon The Cove (Documentary)
  17. 1 - Enemy 2 - Nymphomaniac 3 - The Rover 4 - Whiplash 5 - Chef 6 - Nightcrawler 7 - The Drop 8 - America 9 - Kill the Messenger 10 - This is where I leave you
  18. I've seen BTTF movies, but about 20 years ago, so I can't remember which one is which. Pretty sure they go back to the old west in the third. Hoverboard in another. Marty McFly, Delorean, yaddy yadda. Don't remember enough to rank them. Die Hard - 10/10 , perfect streamlined action movie with a great villian and the family matters dad was a good supporting character. Die Harder- 7/10 , this one was less centralized and had more happening, not quite as good, but a fun watch Die Hard with a Vengeance - This was awesome, the 5L Jug of water scene! 10/10 Live Free or Die Hard - Surprisingly good, Olyphant played a good bad guy, 8/10 A good Day to Die Hard - This is probably one of the worst movies of all time with plotholes galore, 1/10 for a decent truck crash near the beginning. Avg - 7.2/10
  19. Not bad. Too much chumming around with each other, giving head nods, brad pitt eating, emphasis on garcia/cloone and roberts didn't add much. Half baked heist movie, bit of humor. Overall, a harmless movie that is a rental. C
  20. If interstellar can do 550m worldwide, that is great ... it's purely based off Nolan's name. The trailer probably does it no justice ... Matthew in a pick up truck, a shot of a big planet wave, Matthew in a spaceship ... Compare that with Inception trailer ... Action packed, city folding in on itself, Leo caprio in the lead. Sometimes you have to look at this movie as though you weren't on a movie forum and didn't know nolan, would you see this movie based on the trailer otherwise ? I sure wouldn't. That trailer is as void and barren as the movie Oblivion ... only for true sci-fi fans, not for the popcorn crowd. In my opinion.
  21. I never got invested into Llewyn. I never got the sense that he was striving for anything or had anything possibly happening for him. The only part of the movie I followed was the stupid fucking cat. I latched onto that as it was the only thing of any real importance. I have to believe the directors objective was to show a struggling musician with high hopes never quite obtaining his goal ... but it remains subdued and uninspired, just like the main character. I had to go and read about the person the film was based on to get an idea of the man's life and it was more interested reading the wiki article than watching this film. This film was good for one thing though ... I put the movie on for my parents because it was listed as a movie good for older folks due to it's setting. Sure enough, my parents were constantly commenting ... Oh dear, do you remember those heaters, I use to have one just like it ... Do you remember that wallpaper ... what kind of cars are those ... it was more a trip down memory lane it seemed. My parents did no love the movie and did not hate it, but the movie will be forgotten.
  22. I couldn't get into it. The actors were all expendable. Gary Oldman took me out of the movie so many times. They had the right idea, just wrong execution and direction. It felt like a 'B-line' from Ape city to Human city instead of a sprawling landscape. The visit to ceasars old house was forced and cheesy. Opening a Sony Handycam sitting there for 10 years that was queued up with James Franco on the non-dusty 3" screen was forced. The movie tries so hard to connect us to sympathy and nostalgia from the previous movie about ceasar as a lab ape, but it wasn't working, the dark undertones were set from the beginning. Koba was the villian, Ceasar was the typical ... strong hero ... get's injured ... doubt ... kicks villians but. I was hoping the movie would get more light when the ceasar had healed slightly and the ape prisoners that got out of the bus .... especially the orangutang ... would make a perfect team to take back the tower ... but it was just a ceaser fight. Not my cup of tea.
  23. From what I remember, I really enjoyed it. Jodie Foster was great in it and I felt like her character truly cared about the mission. Suspensful scene when busey was attempting to blow up the machine and eventually succeeded. But there was a second one built. Pretty cool when she drops into that machine ... not knowing if she's going to live or die at that moment. I enjoyed how she got to see her father in a serene setting and how they chatted along the beach and he was explaining that there were other places to move onto.
  24. This film was such a treat. I follow movies to much nowadays and I think it ruins the experience for me, as I know what I'm going into see everytime. When I saw this film, I hadn't a clue what it was about or anything about that style of humor. The quick camera cuts really compliments the british humor. I found myself engaged from the start and entertained all the way through. The references were great, the whodunnit was great and it was a good surprise. My favorite part was when he went to look in the prison cell for Nick Frost and Nick Frost pops up behind him ... I don't know why that part sticks out in my mind so much. A
