I once got a ban after I started a thread about this very topic (though I did use some strong language). I think Western Europe has also caught on, but Asia and South America are getting worse. Despite their economic rise, they are still provincial as hell culturally.
What's with all thses crazy predictions following an average trailer?
This won't come close to Gravity OS total and MJ1 will eat it up in with the younger crowd.
It's erroneous to equate the stand-alone Wolverine movies with the main X-Men films. The Wolverine movies are stright up action movies with little to 0 connection to the X-Men universe.
About a third of SR budget was sunk costs from the previous 10 years of WB trying to make a Superman film (Nic Cage's 20m play-or-play deal from 1998 is factored in for example).
This is like a vintage BOM big come-down thread thread. Of course almost everyone here put their blinders on and over-predicted the hell out of this movie, while completely ignoring the Spider-Man 1/Spider-Man 2 and the TDK/TDKR corollaries.
You people are either ignorant, or straight up dumbasses. Lion King? Batman? Star Wars? By you're logic Madonna and Prince are bigger than Elvis and The Beatles.
Other have mentioned GWTW, The Golden Age epics (Ben Hur, Dr. Zhivago, etc.), Sound of Music, but no one has mentioned the 2 most obvious choices; Charlie Chaplin and Disney.
Django is a Tarantino film first and foremost.
True Grit was a remake of a well known western, was released in December, had tons of Oscar buzz, was released in the Bermuda triangle that was the fall/winter of 2010 (where a movie like Black Swan made over 100m) and wasn't a complete crap-fest like TLR is. And it still only made 80m OS.
