It's all misleading. The trailers do a good job hooking you in, but like most Japanese movies of this type, they're pretty much boring or super corny. Sure there's hot Japanese girl nudity, but even that isn't enough to sit down and watch 90+ minutes of mindless crap. Same can be said about Machine Girl, Mutant Girl Squad or any zombie/school girl movie. You're better off watching hentai.
As long as people are watching the new episodes on HBO Go, I don't think HBO minds the ratings since they are still viewing the show on their site. I'm sure they can count how many times the movie is viewed on HBO Go as well.
Didn't IMAX only account for 6.7% of OW? 10.2M of 152.5M? No idea why IMAX would gross almost 2M when it should be closer to 1M. Also, IMAX is not 2x regular ticket prices. Most theaters it's a $3-4 surcharge, not double the price.
IMAX loss is minimal imo, HG is not TDK or TF where watching in IMAX was way better than watching in regular screens. The movie is not so effects driven that people interested in watching the movie can have the same enjoyment in any type or size theater.
The trailer looked decent at the start, but lost interest towards the end. Can either of you suggest some recent romcoms that have been released? My parents will be there in May for my cousin's wedding and I want them to bring back some movies.
I purposely left that last part of your post out because it's not a valid comparison. New Moon and Breaking Dawn both opened the week before Thanksgiving. The Tuesdays prior to Thanksgiving (Thursday) is inflated because a lot of people in the US take vacation that week and schools are out. The holiday explains the jump on Tuesday you were comparing between the two movies. Also, show me anywhere where it says Tuesday discounts are bigger now than ever? And that 15-20% jump you said above does not apply to movies that gross more than 10M the previous day without the help of a Holiday.
You're getting too carried away with discount Tuesdays. It's not like they became popular only in 2012, we've been factoring that in for years now. Take a look at AIW http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=aliceinwonderland10.htmYou can see it benefited from Tuesdays as well with the exception of holidays falling on Monday.
