  1. World War Z crossed the $300 million overseas mark, not a bad milestone for a film that had plenty of detractors lined up before its release. The $305.2 million overseas total boosts the film past the half-billion mark. The global cume for World War Z $502.6 million. A $2.1 million hold in Spain led the market despite facing off against the opening of Pacific Rim, bringing the Spanish cume for World War Z to $10 million after only ten days in release. World War Z was also the top film in Japan, where it opened to $3.5 million.
  2. World War z posted the biggest opening weekend of the summer in Spain, drawing $4.5 million from 665 locations. Brad Pitt's global zombie movie has grossed $292.5 million overseas and $488.3 million globally. Next weekend's opening in Japan can put the film on track for a $500 million worldwide cume.
  3. @pamelaDayM Like it or not, 'Grown Ups 2' is quickly pulling ahead of #PacificRim at the #BoxOffice. PR may not get to $37 million. Ouch.
  4. Deadline:"FRIDAY 4:45 PM, 6TH UPDATE: It’s shaping up as a very strong domestic box office weekend with Summer 2013 continuing to sizzle. My sources say that, based on matinee and early evening trends, the three top films are neck and neck. Universal’s and Illumination Entertainment’s holdover Despicable Me 2 should be #1 again this weekend with $14.3M Friday. The Saturday kiddie bump could add a huge $46M-$47M weekend with only a -46% drop from last Fri-Sat-Sun. aaunless it gets beaten by the two openers. Warner Bros/Legendary Pictures’ Pacific Rim (3,275 theaters and 331 IMAX screens) and Sony Pictures/Happy Madison’s Growns-Ups 2 (3,491 theaters) are too close to call right now with both looking like $14.5M Friday and between $40M-$44M for the weekend. That’s including Thursday late shows and Friday midnights which were an overperforming $3.6M for Pacific Rim with the 3D ratio a strong 52% “and the largest ratio of a wide release for a very long time” according to an exec. Grown-Ups 2 also started with bigger than expected $2.3M late shows even though it’s a PG-13 family, non-fanboy, non-IMAX movie. Right now it’s beating the 2010 first installment’s $40.5M opening weekend thanks to Jeff Blake’s marketing department. As of 9:00 AM PT this morning on Fandango, the three top films were selling neck and neck online and through mobile: 31% for Pacific Rim, 30% for Despicable Me 2, and 28% for Grown-Ups 2. According to the latest Rotten Tomatoes scores, it’s not even a close contest between the mecha anime inspired thriller and the Adam Sandler ensemble sequel: Pacific Rim has 72% positive reviews while Grown-Ups 2 an astoundingly awful 5%. (Ouch!)"
  5. From Boxoffice.com"Friday Update #2: Based on early grosses, it looks like Despicable Me 2 will hold on to 1st place this weekend with a sophomore haul north of $45 million. That would put Universal's animated flick at $230 million domestically after only two weekends. Pacific Rim is on pace to top Grown Ups 2. Both films are poised to open above $40 million, but Pacific Rim is looking at $43 million-$44 million and Grown Ups 2 is looking at $41 million-$42 million. With three films running this close, don't be surprised if the order switches by the time Sunday ends. Official studio estimates and updated projections will be released on Saturday morning. "
  6. Friday Update #2: Sources tells BoxOffice that The Heat is headed for as much as $18 million on Friday, which puts it on pace for a debut frame of around $45 million or so.White House Down is looking at $8 million-$10 million on Friday, which would put it close to $27 million.
  7. From HSXBTC 5PM Update WWARZ (24/22.8/18.2) 65.0, MONS2 (31.5/29.9/25.4) 86.8
  8. 3.6 wow I didn't expect that at all. Not bad for a film that doesn't have any real rush factor attached to it.
