Leslie Jones Slams New 'Ghostbusters' Film: "It's Like Something Trump Would Do"

The actress, who starred in the all-female reboot of the franchise in 2016, tweeted her disappointment about the news earlier this week that Jason Reitman will helm a new movie that will continue the story that began with the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel.

Honestly, her response is just embarrassing.  It's a fucking movie.  The 2016 one didn't follow the original films, wasn't successful and lost Sony a lot of money, plus it wasn't  widely liked by the general audiences, and now a choice to not include it is likened to some of the asinine and pathetic things which are FAR more important that our President has said and done in the last 2 years.

Hell, I don't even really care about the new Ghostbusters film either, but man.  Trump and the problems he's creating 'IMO' are far bigger than a Ghostbuster film not including Leslie Jones.

Notice how they talk about how they're filming back to back due the series popularity

... and not due to the fact that Tom Cruise is turning 57 years old this year. :P

Oh well, should be good stuff.   They really need to think about wrapping Ethan Hunts story though ... at some point Tom will not be able to do this crazy shit anymore.

Even though Poppins isn't a flop, Disney probably didn't clear out their holiday schedule for it just for Poppins to come in third domestic and below 400M WW. And unlike Solo, here the predictions from both people like us and industry analysts were way higher than the end result. It looks like it will finish behind The Greatest Showman domestic as well.

    Probable reasons?

    - Expectations got out of hand forgetting that the brand is more like a Robin Hood or King Arthur where people know of it than are genuinely fans of it

    - Lack of a hit song. Last year I had not watched Greatest Showman but I knew at least 2 of it's songs because they got plenty of radio play and were genuine hits, with "This is me" becoming a smash. Currently none of Poppins songs have actually made it into the mainstream media

    - Not overly positive reviews. After it got into the AFI top 10 and was in Best Picture conversation for a long time and those leaked reports of standing ovations at exhibitor screenings, the reviews were kind of underwhelming

All true, but just wait until Disney puts out the next 'MPR' type film/property with prestige, and guess what people will be suckers again because they just can't help themselves.  I mean, we really had people who were expecting grand-parents to take their families to this film in droves.  I saw it written all over the place.  How delusional can people be in 2019?

300-400 always seemed laughable and I could never understand the fascination on this board for it.

Can Aquaman take out Civil War and Skyfall worldwide? That would be glorious.

VERY VERY outside chance it could reach Skyfall, but will probably miss it.  IMO almost zero shot at Civil War unless it unexpectedly blew up in Japan (which it almost certainly won't)

The goal should be passing The Dark Knight Rises at 1.084 and get to #24 all time.

No disrespect to your identity or your happiness, but... you can't strip the power away from the cherries and the pie. Sorry (not)

Anyway, back to film nerding, does Poppins still hold a good chance for 200 at this point?

I don't think it does ... bigger drop this weekend, should be 140 after weekend and I could see it falling in the mid 180's.

    edit ...

... actually looking at things, yeah they'll find a way because it will get 190+ so they'll try to push it there.

If Deadline's early Fri proves correct, then my pessimistic scenario in the Thursday thread is quite likely. But, very early. That 8 million could end up well over 9 by the end. Again, an interesting weekend for AQM.

It would be more interesting if there was questions about whether it would reach 300 or 1 billion, but whether it does 25-26 or 28-30, it's hitting both those # with ease at this point.

this. there are receipts with MPR Over 400M Club and predictions that MPR would dominate. Some even had BB or Spiderverse ahead of Aquaman. And it isn't just BOT. Media outlets were rushing to call MPR the winner of holidays...before the Black Wednesday when all went crashing down. There was so much overestimation for that movie it was insane. I still can't figure out why.

Because a lot of the people in the media covering this were not under the age of 35 and to them the idea of a Mary Poppins Returns sounded like something everyone would want and they felt that surely Disney would prevail.

... and then they didn't and it will be a marginal success at best when it's all done.
