  1. Sounds like horseshit because CGI movies take at least 3 years to make, and according to this numbskull, the script isn't even finished but it'll release next year.
  2. It could also be how unappealing everything looks. I mean, besides EG, DP and JW3, what else do we have in store? Godzilla when everyone hated the previous one. X-Men where no one realized they were continuing. Live action remakes of Aladdin and The Lion King. I mean, yeah you people seem to like them, but Christ are they unimaginative. Toy Story rehashing itself again. No one asked for this. etc
  3. Are the visuals that great? They look like a dated HTTYD and the song seems to be from Moana. I guess it doesn't hurt to mix the best of DW with the best of WDA, so we'll see.
  4. Is it though? Ghost Protocol was meant to be the end wasn't it? And fair play to Cruise and gang for pulling off quality, but it doesn't mean it was really anticipated.
  5. wut? Keanu can't act, Jackman can. Keanu needs really, really specific roles for him to shine and overcome his otherwise lack of ability.
  6. Hey, good to know you're OK. Recognize your screen name from BOM. Heal up quickly mate! As for EG, I will just echo what I said yesterday. Its legs are disappointing, but its total is not. This just points to an admissions ceiling for modern film, and SW just had arguably the best release date that took advantage of infrequent cinemagoers to get that high.
  7. Pity no one saw this. It's fucking laughable that it got such an awful critic score and yet Captain Marvel and Black Panther are lauded to the high heavens. I'm glad it was made because it's a great feel-good blockbuster. They don't make these anymore. Problem is, no one cares about the source material and I don't know how they would have sold a blockbuster without the "brand" name, but they obviously couldn't sell it to the audience and that's tragic. American critics though need no reminder what a farce they are. The incredible bias toward superhero flicks (and I loved EG) is disgusting, but predictable. After all, superheroes are American. America proud! A
  8. Endgame legs have been disappointing. If Pika had opened to a much larger amount, then that would be a fair drop. As is stands, from opening $100m+ over IW, by its 3rd weekend they were already on par. I get that there is frontloading and the series finale would have exacerbated it, but still it's a fantastic movie and it is just dropping off at a rather rapid rate and will now come in far below TFA. Perhaps, there is indeed a capacity audience over a movie's entire run. I really can't believe that more people would've seen the awful TFA, but its amazing release date had ensured near $750m by holiday's end which would have probably captured the masses who never watch movies. At least EG will beat Avatar WW to make up for this loss to an inferior and distinctly average product.
  9. Maybe it's the amount of Pokemon? Letterman says they ran out of money designing the 50 they did make. I'm pretty sure some of the animation (Charmander & Squirtle) were stock, as I saw that specific animation repeatedly. I think a better director, one who knows how to operate on a tight budget, so even like an indie director, should have been given the helm. There'd be creative ways in which to use the available money and spread the 50 designs so it didn't feel like those were the only ones available. The themed parade was a gimmick (the amount of Sneasels wow) but yeah, I think there'd be better ways. The Torterra scene was a waste honestly. I mean, I love what they did with Torterra, but on the whole, it doesn't need to be in the movie at all.
  10. Haha that's what I said, they nailed the Pokemon which would've been the most difficult part. But they really need a better director as well. Letterman is a hack, he's no writer either and Newton/Nighy and all other non-Reynolds and Smith members of the cast were really, really bad. Below average for even a generic family movie. Smith himself barely passes.
  11. He has written the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog...that doesn't really inspire confidence. We'll see.
  12. Sad it isn't going to be TFA, but TFA had the best release date ever, so it's not really a fair comparison. Anyway SW is the epitome of Western privilege in a franchise.
  13. Well, it's not particularly great so it really doesn't deserve a higher score. It's more the 'how did no one show at OW?'. I'd also argue that the Pokemon franchise isn't on the same level as other games above (though I don't play any games) given that most of those utilize computer screens and Pokemon was consigned to handheld devices for most of its history. I suppose it needed a better hook than Detective Pikachu - and I don't think Red/Blue, the OG Ash/Pika/Rocket or anything to do with the Championships would have done any better or translated well. It would never go there, but I think perhaps, if the allegory above is true, about 20 hours being condensed into 2, then what game adaptations need is to provide an alternative story in-universe. So, if it was indeed "Detective Pikachu" the alt story would've been like a darker take, where it is about crime within the world and instead of Smith you'd have like a mid-20s or early 30s detective. I guess it's difficult to pull off, but you start to use the brand as mere inspiration and you tell your own story unrelated to everything that has gone on before.
  14. Those OS numbers are horrific. I'm at a loss to understand why or how. How does Pokemon Go make billions of dollars and have hundreds of millions of downloads and no one is interested to see the film? And it's not like it looked terrible. Personally I don't really like the movie, but the facts are that for however good the trailer seemed to be, it didn't translate to butts on seats. Why? The quality of the movie itself is irrelevant for OW but how did that marketing not get people to come watch it? Any ideas? Did EG use up all the household's disposable income?
  15. Yep, I don't think it'll have great legs, but after the WB marketing and Pokemon Go craze, this can only launch to $50m? That's pathetic TBH. It hasn't grown or expanded from the first movie way back in 1999.
  16. Disappointing that the awful TFA reigns supreme. Benefitted from the perfect Xmas schedule to get many people who wouldn't be interested to give it a chance. Hopefully ROS continues the downward trend.
  17. I wouldn't say he was good, but he was decent by the end. Besides him and Reynolds, the rest of the cast should never be seen again. Some of those supporting characters...just no. Perhaps there was a reluctance to join a Pokemon movie, but the cast should be a lot better than what we got. Somewhere in this universe, there is an epic Pokemon story waiting to be told, but I am really doubting it will ever get told. It cannot be written or directed by a hack like Letterman for one. I watched the first 3 Pokemon films and nothing since then, but Pokemon has never been great at movies. But just because their standard is so low doesn't mean this kind of plotting and writing should be given a pass. It'd be a shame if we don't get another movie (doesn't have to be DP2) because the Pokemon themselves are gorgeous to watch and they didn't have as many as they should have had. Way too many repeated Pokemon made the world feel smaller than it should. Loudreds, Charmanders, Sneasels everywhere- just unrealistic.
  18. I must say I walk away disappointed. Incredibly enough, the easiest thing to screw up - the Pokemon themselves - were the best parts of the film, but after the massive wait it took to get a live action Pokemon film, they then decided to shoot that script? Hire those actors? I don't know if the plot followed the game 100%, but they really shouldn't have. Zootopia, only referenced because of the above poster, has much better worldbuilding only because they tried to use as many animals as possible. As a Pokemon fan, as much as I loved seeing Pokemon like Sneasel, Charmander, Loudred and Bouffalant, there were way too many trainers with them. It was a bit fake in that sense. Whilst the signboards and the world itself was cool, seeing the same Charmander running in the same way so many times just kind of broke the suspension of disbelief. However, the animation was absolutely fantastic. What I really didn't like was the nonsensical story with its pathetic twists and really, how it was directed. Letterman is a hack. Why did they give it to him? A lot of really poor choices in the storytelling. Flashbacks used badly, too much fake fanfic exposition, why did they have him write it too? They really should have chosen better. As for the actors, Justice Smith took awhile to get used to, but by the end he seemed decent enough. Newton was terrible- and besides Reynolds voice work and cameo, the rest of the cast were woeful. Nighy was sleepwalking and whoever else they cast were so unbearably bad. The Latino gangster has to be one of the worst performances of a speaking role in the history of film. How did he even get cast ? I was hoping for a movie akin to the crowdpleasing POTC or Transformers, but what I got was a movie that didn't know what it wanted to be. Part detective movie, part generic family movie, it's sad that this is the end product. I'm not sure it'll do very well and another Pokemon movie in the same universe (if ever) would have a major uphill battle. It certainly cannot be directed or written by a hack like Letterman.
  19. Humble pie for some who've been lording over others. It's still a massive Friday, but how some realistic people have been treated by suggesting conservatism even without access to the data is troubling. Hey, if we all had data, maybe we could try our luck predicting too?
  20. Funny how the first person who remarked this was apparently criticized. It's called constructive criticism. All these BS posts in this thread, oh I'm going with RTH/Charlie, obviously depending on who is higher, are on another level of pathetic. They aren't making numbers up for pleasure. As they are the only ones with data, they are the only ones who can truly infer and predict. Putting emotion into it is fruitless.
  21. The Chinese work on Sundays? Which is the biggest day in China?
  22. lol, it's about accuracy. You don't get better trying to appease happy clappers like yourself, but seeing your own predictions and adjusting them.
