  1. Remember Scott Derrickson also was a horror director before working on Doctor Strange. Seems like something like Shazam is a good fit as it likely won't have a sky-high budget compared with the big boys.
  2. Pretty good movie with some, for the most part, solid visual effects and the performances were fine (most of the time Cumberbatch reminded me too much of his Sherlock character). The villain once again is weak which is par for Marvel yet I was at least invested in the story. I am interested to see where the sequel goes especially with Ejiofor being the big bad the next go around. ****/*****, (B+, 7.9/10, 3.25/4)
  3. I think her casting will help. If she can get Lucy, as bat-s as that was, to make what it did ($463M worldwide), she should be able to do better here. What Asian actress would you cast that has similar (or close to) star power?
  4. I'm only a casual fan of the series so as long as they keep the essence of the character, and especially, the world, I'm game for change. And in addition, we don't know if this is the villain just manipulating her.
  5. Great, and fun, time-waster that, as was the first, in Keanu Reeve's wheelhouse as he is far better doing fights than espousing dialogue, though even in that regard he has a few good lines. Can't wait for the third entry. ****/*****, (B+, 8.1/10, 3.25/4)
  6. John Wick: Chapter 2 10:05 am ~75% full Trailers Power Rangers The Fate of the Furious Life Ghost in the Shell Pirates 5
  7. Pretty much this. Stenfield was fantastic but her character was, at times, insufferable (which probably was the point). I did like the soundtrack so much that I went ahead and bought it.
  8. Pretty dang good and this is coming from someone who likes horror but not exactly a horror hound. I had never seen this before so it was surprising that Pinhead was a minor character. Although the gore was great, even more impressive was the make-up and prosthetic work. ***¾/*****, (B+, 7.7/10, 3/4)
  9. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - 9:40am Probably 75-80% full Trailers The Boss Baby Fate of the Furious Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 Life (still has the old Memorial Day date at the end) Power Rangers Transformers: The Last Knight Not much of a reaction to anything, though the kid next to me was excited for Transformers (why his parents sat him next to a complete stranger is beyond me but I wish they did, he was restless throughout the movie to the point he started curling up to fall asleep like he was in bed; my theater just got lounge chairs).
  10. Finally got around to seeing this (and in a renovated theater with "luxury lounge chairs" which might get me back to theater more than 2-3 times a year) and I thought it was highly enjoyable and just slightly ahead of Episode 7, however Daisy Ridley > Felicity Jones even though Jones did a great job. ***¾/*****, (B+, 7.7/10, 3/4)
  11. Was pleasantly surprised by this. Sure, it does get a bit too bombastic at times but I was entertained from beginning to end and the performances by Wahlberg and Russell were both excellent, especially the latter since he had little character development. The effects were stellar and sound design incredible; I can see this getting some technical love from the Academy. ***¾/*****, (B+, 7.8/10, 3/4)
  12. Typical Grindstone Entertainment schlock at least has a good performance from Christopher Meloni while, once again, Bruce Willis cashes in another quick paycheck for what I assume was 1-2 days work.
  13. Shia was good but outside of that, I wasn't that enthralled and it was entirely too long clocking in at 160-minutures (or so sans credits). I just didn't find it all that captivating and it could've gone through some more editing.
  14. Quote on the Blu-ray front cover : I agree, I couldn't wait until it was over.
  15. Typical mid-90s thriller, but I enjoyed it mainly for Elisabeth Shue. ***¼/*****, (B-/C+, 6.4/10, 2.5/4)
  16. Dumb but a lot of fun for its 1980s over-the-topness. ***/*****, (C+, 6.1/10, 2.5/4)
  17. I'm not much for documentaries but this is a fascinating inside look at both politics and self destruction.
  18. Alice Through the Looking Glass needs to be added to the archive. http://forums.boxofficetheory.com/topic/21869-alice-through-the-looking-glass-2016/
  19. Bad and pointless but ultimately harmless. **/*****, (C-, 4.2/10, 1.75/4)
