  1. Really not that insane actually. It increased 35% on its OW Saturday, so a 55% increased on its second Saturday is hardly a long shot.
  2. 20m is definitely in play for Saturday. It increased 35% on Saturday on its OW, no reason to think it wouldn't increase significantly more than that on its second weekend. 20m would be like a 55% increase.
  3. Absolutely phenomenal Friday for Gravity. 45m is not out of the question for the weekend.
  4. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but at this rate I'd imagine we're in for a record breaking October no?
  5. I'd love to see sub 20% drops for Gravity all through October, so come on $44m!
  6. Typical Greengrass film. Nothing really "wrong" with it, but pacing is too slow and in the end it fails to leave a lasting impression for me. I'm once again left not "getting" the hype for one of his films. Also was expecting more from Hanks after the raves he got. The last half hour is the only part where he had any real acting to do, and even then it's a far cry from his prime stuff. Last half hour is pretty good, though I really don't think I could ever sit through the first 3/4 of the movie again. Still waiting for Greengrass to stop being strictly technical, put down his "how to make a movie" guide, and make me actually feel something in his films for once. A seriously overrated director, imo. B-
  7. I have a feeling August will get entirely snubbed, even Meryl. Trailers look pretty bad and reviews have been mixed at best.
  8. All questions are worth 1,000 points, unless otherwise specified. All answers are due by Thursday at 11:59 pm (PST). All questions pertain to the top 12 films of the weekend. 1. Will Gravity be the #1 film this weekend? YES 2. Will Captain Phillips open to more than $30M? NO 3. Will Captain Phillips have a Saturday increase of more than 20%? YES 4. Will Machete Kills open to more than $7.5M? NO 5. Will Romeo & Juliet have a theater average of at least $6,500? NO 6. Will Gravity fall less than 33%? YES 7. Will at least 6 films have a Friday increase of at least 100%? YES 8. Will Insidious Chapter 2 drop more than 44%? YES 9. Will Baggage Claim stay in the Top 10? NO 10. Will the top 8 films combine to make more than $100M? NO Bonus #1) How much will Captain Phillips & Machete Kills make this weekend, combined? 31.655 Bonus #2) Percentage-wise, how much will Gravity fall this weekend? (Use at least 2 decimal places.) 23.675
  9. I see its finally entered the IMDB top 250, already #44. I bet it can get top 10 before it starts dropping.
  10. I'm tellin ya guys, Gravity is coming for that 5x multi.
  11. If Gravity doesn't win this all of the universe will collapse since everything in existence will fail to make sense or abide by any laws.
  12. Fairly confident right now in these being the nominees: Gravity Saving Mr. Banks The Wolf of Wall Street American Hustle Captain Phillips The Monuments Men 12 Years a Slave Inside Llewyn Davis Blue Jasmine If a tenth gets nominated and/or Wolf moves to next year then I think it will be between Nebraska, The Butler, and Before Midnight. Hopefully Midnight, but I'm not holding my breath.
  13. It's a little scary how much this year is becoming an exact repeat of 2009 for Bullock. Comedy in the summer that grosses $160m, followed by an Oscar drama in the fall with killer WOM that grosses 250m+, followed by a possible Oscar win for her.
  14. Glad you brought up the "rebirth". That was easily one of the most gorgeously filmed and poignant scenes of modern film for me.
  15. I don't know that it will win either, but it needs to happen imo. The Academy needs to break down their biases and avoid another TDK-esque backlash for being too set in their ways. The genre bias has gone on long enough, it's 2013 time for those walls to come down.
  16. Gravity is different though. The reception is just once in a generation level, and the box office could be a phenomenon as well. If that happens how can they treat it like just some other action/thriller hit?
  17. If it's a massive box office hit like it's already shaping up to be, and with the astronomically good critical reception, I honestly don't know how the Academy will be able to deny it.
  18. I seriously wouldn't count 300m out if this nears 60m for OW. 5x multi is in the cards, imo.
  19. It really is. I don't even need to see the other BP contenders, I want Gravity to sweep the Oscars this year more than I've wanted any film to since ROTK.
  20. 20m!!! Holy crap, with an OW in the mid to high 50's and incredible WOM there's no telling how high it could end up!
  21. The soundtrack is just amazing. I really wasn't expecting that aspect of the film to be so superb. Than again, every aspect of this film is superb.
  22. So happy Gravity is already exceeding expectations at the BO. It deserves every penny of what it makes.
  23. Just got back from my showing and... OH MY GOD. This film is mind blowing. I'm really at a loss for words right now but I guess exhausting, exhilarating, transcendent, and mesmerizing might be a few that spring to mind, although they don't do it any justice. This film is such a revelation that 98% and a 9.1 average rating on RT are still not good enough for it. Gravity isn't a film it's simply an experience. Never before have I left a film feeling literally oxygen deprived because I realized I was holding my breath so damn much. And this is so visually compelling that it redefines the way movies can be filmed. I'm just gonna stop myself otherwise I'll just keep fawning over this to no end, but please just put your entire life on hold and go see this as soon as humanely possible!
