  1. This is definitely gonna be a hit and Bullock seems to be emerging as the early Actress frontrunner (though I still think it's Blanchett's year). Bullock's career since The Proposal has truly been incredible, both in accolades and commercial.
  2. Nicely done. Although I must say this season is shaping up to be quite the letdown to end the series. I still find Hannah to be a Rita/Lila/Lumen conglomerate, but not as compatible for Dexter as any of those. Their whole relationship is such been there done that territory on this show. I'm hoping the brain surgeon kills her off next ep. Dexter should have done it last season.
  3. I never even saw marketing for You're Next. How the heck is that movie not bombing?
  4. Meh. The laughs were few and far between for me and the plot was just too over the top, even for a Wright/Pegg movie. Also felt like I was being spoon fed the "moral of the story" by the end. Not as good as Hot Fuzz, and doesn't even touch Shaun of the Dead. And as far as summer's comedies go, We're The Millers and The Heat made me laugh way more than this. B-
  5. What I learned most is how to make a poor man's The Social Network. C-
  6. Maybe it's wrong to root for a movie to fail, but I simply love that TMI is bombing hard.
  7. Either him or Jamie seem to be the only available options at this point if it's not Vogel and not someone entirely new.
  8. They don't all have to be big hits but at least one of them should have been by now if he were a draw. The fact that Transporter 2's 40m is his highest grossing starring role doesn't indicate "box office draw" at all.
  9. But you can't argue with numbers. And the numbers of all his flicks show that Statham has never really been a draw.
  10. For all his clout as one of the supposed big action stars of today, Statham has yet to headline a true box office hit. Take out The Expendables movies and his box office history is quite pathetic really. 20-30m is about what all his starring role action films have done. So calling him a draw is certainly up for debate, leaning more towards him not being one.
  11. I'm sure this has been brought up, but this definitely reminded me of a modern take on A Streetcar Named Desire. That's one of my favorite old movies, and likewise I loved the hell out of this. Allen's screenwriting abilities were in absolute peak form here, and Blanchett is nearly as mesmerizing as a modern day Blanche as Vivien Leigh was back in the day. The last scene with her babbling nonsensically to herself made me think the Best Actress race may already be over. At any rate she should pose as some stiff competition come Oscar season. Really glad to see Allen take on something with a little more edge and emotional depth too, and succeed so well. Even more so than Midnight in Paris I think this is a true return to form for him, and one of the best films of the year so far maybe second only to Before Midnight. A
  12. Wow, didn't know that. Still a crappy number though for a Steve Jobs biopic. Could have been done so much bigger and better.
  13. Expected for everything: Butler is a mini breakout, KA performs on par with first, and Jobs and Paranoia bomb. I get the feeling we have a lot of boring and predictable weekends coming now.
  14. Too bad JP4 got moved out of next summer. It could have been the summer of dragons and dinosaurs. I like the sound of that.
  15. DAMN GROWN UPS 2 TO A FIERY PIT OF HELL!!!! Because it increased freakin 2.5% percent more than 29.5% on Saturday I missed getting the 4 parter bonus right this week! Grr, I thought I had it and was gonna get some redemption for screwing up the last two ones. My fury for Adam Sandler comedies offically knows no bounds!
  16. You liked Cate in Hobbit too if I remember right. I think you've warmed up to her as an actress.
  17. Fish is usually only Gollum when talking LOTR related stuff. Other topics she's Smeagol.
  18. I feel like betting against Avatar 2 would be unwise. It should have everything it takes to be locked as a big success. However Avatar 3 and 4? We'll see how Avatar 2 is received, but it might not be too dumb to bet against those. Particularly the fourth.
  19. A powerfully acted and well done film, however the predictability of the whole thing kept it from really resonating with me. I wasn't very familiar with the actual event, but even still I knew how everything in the movie was gonna go several scenes before it played out, so it couldn't help but feel a tad on the generic side for me. If it wasn't based on a true story I don't think I would have been affected by it much at all and it would have been forgettable. But the fact that it actually happened coupled with Michael B. Jordan's fantastic portrayal did give the film a definite heart. Hope he gets some acting recognition for this because the film really succeeds wholly on his merits of making you care about the character. Just wish I didn't find myself bored by the inevitability of the film at so many points. B+
  20. He's only good at doing arrogant assholes that think they're smarter than everyone, and that gets old really fast.
  21. Conjuring is coming for 150m it looks like. Could finish third among all supernatural horror movies, behind Exorcist and Sixth Sense. Amazing.
  22. And Adam Sandler is a box office staple. Doesn't make him any less shitty of an actor though.
  23. Yeah well I stick by what I said in saying it's an underwhelming summer for WW grosses. Last year's WW summer top 10 totaled over $7.5b. This year's won't even hit 6 billion.
  24. Lucky. I'd love to see Blue Jasmine but no places showing yet here.
  25. The Alvin movies were virtually indiscernible in terms of quality. I couldn't tell you which was better than the other, only that all of them made me ponder the state of children's entertainment.
