  1. I've always been a fan of refinement over innovation. Just because Departed wasn't treading new ground for Scorsese, I think he perfected it. Yeah he'd done the mafia movie many times before, but never as effectively for me. If something was better than something before it I couldn't care less about what came first or "paved the way." It's still better.
  2. Probably some bogus flashback/dream sequence Cap has. So in other words, doesn't count.
  3. IKR? They're gonna take out the only interesting character/actor from the first?
  4. That would be Gangs of New York. Excluding the magnificence that is DDL of course.
  5. Scant few times have I ever had as strong of a reaction to a movie as when I first saw The Departed and
  6. This. That movie is never a boring one to rewatch. For me at least. Always sucks me right in like a vacuum.
  7. Funny, that's the exact same reaction I've always had to Goodfellas. It's a good film and all but all the "best mafia movie ever!" and Godfather vs Goodfellas debates have always baffled me.
  8. The Departed>Goodfellas. Seriously though, it's probably my fav Scorsese film, which is saying a whole lot. Still pissed at the Leo snub from that.
  9. But what if I was only using that word to describe a student at a British public school who is required to perform menial tasks for a student in a higher class?
  10. It's lackluster in terms of OWs, but some of that has more to do with big movies opening on Wednesdays or Thursdays. This summer should easily beat 2012's overall. And this is the first summer with 5 movies that have a real shot at 300m. Next summer is the suckfest in terms of box office. We may not even get one 100m OW or one 300m grosser.
  11. Awesome trailer. I think this will breakout. Looks like Bullock will be repeating her awesome 2009 box office year. Big comedy hit in the summer (The Proposal/The Heat) and big drama hit in the fall (Blind Side/Gravity).
  12. Yeah I just looked and saw TA's first wednesday drop was exactly the same. And it didn't have a small Tuesday increase like this. So this should be fine. I'm guessing weekend is something like: Thur: 7.8 (-4%) Fri: 19.5 (+150%) Sat: 30.5m (+56%) Sun: 22m (-28%) Weekend: 72m (-59%)
  13. I have to admit I was skeptical of how repeat business would be after seeing it a 2nd time last night. It just didn't hold up well for me on a repeat viewing. Unlike TA which was practically made for tons of viewings. That being said I'd hardly say 400 is out yet, Tuesday was still very good and we will no doubt get ridiculous Fri/Sat bumps since this is playing to a family audience.
  14. 1) Will Gatsby open to more than 35 mill? YES 2) Will Gatsby open to more than 40.5 mill? YES 3) Will Tyler Perry open to more than 20 mill? NO 4) Will IM3 drop less than 55%? NO 5) Will IM3 have a Friday increase of more than 130%? YES 6) Will Tyler Perry drop by more than 7% on Saturday? YES 7) Will Tyler Perry have one of the three best theater averages in the top 15? YES 8) Will IM3 make more than than the next three films combine (slots 2-4) NO 9) Will Gatsby's weekend gross be more than IM3's Friday and Sunday gross? YES 10) Will Mud drop less than 30%? YES 11) Will Pain and Gain drop more than 47%? YES 12) Will Oz stay in the top 10? YES What finishes in spots 4 42 5 Pain and Gain 9 The Big Wedding 13 GI Joe Bonus 1: What will the top 10 cume be? $167.455m Bonus 2: What will IM3 gross this weekend? $72.894m Bonus 3: What will IM3's WW total be after Sunday's estimates (not actuals, estimates) $948.320m
  15. Awesome to see IM3 increase! I saw it a 2nd time today and unfortunately it didn't hold up quite as well for me on a repeat viewing. I was actually surprised because I kinda thought I'd like it better the 2nd time. Still better than IM2 for me, but it's a lot closer to that movie in quality than I would have liked.
  16. I loved that TIME named WALL-E their movie of the decade (2000-2009).
  17. For me 2008 will always be the year that the two best pictures (TDK and Wall-E) didn't even get nominated. What a joke.
  18. We agree on a lot of things red, but this is one time I absolutely can't back you up.
  19. I completely understand why something like TA wouldn't be nominated because it is just perfect summer popcorn fun. Not BP material. But TDK? It still makes zero sense to this day. It has everything a BP contender needs.
  20. How about this forgotten gem?
  21. TDK was so worthy of BP the Academy had to change their BP rules for the first time in decades because they knew they screwed up so bad. Pfft, The Reader. Puh-lease.
  22. Damn I always forget to count Incredibles as a SH movie! *revises list*
  23. 1. The Dark Knight 2. The Avengers 3. The Incredibles 4. X-Men: First Class 5. Iron Man 6. The Dark Knight Rises 7. Batman Begins 8. Spiderman 2 9. X2 10. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
