    Exactly. The Saturday hold proves what I've been saying about this movie for weeks. No matter how big the tracking was, there was still room to grow. Unlike the last several Potters or Twilights, its fanbase isn't set in stone yet, and this brilliant Saturday hold is already proving that in spades.

    Me neither. Hard to believe Spidey 3 still holds the Sat record. That needs to change sooner than later. A movie like that doesn't deserve to hold any records, especially for 5 years.

    It really was. Admittedly though it seems decidedly less impressive when you consider none of the other all time OD holders had the 3D boost.

    Her Saturday # updates are always excruciatingly late. I live in Colorado and it's usually like 2 or 3 in the morning here before she posts them.

    Yeah I was quite frankly shocked with what they got away with there, especially since it was dealing with youth violence. There was way more gore than I ever expected out of a PG-13 rating. I don't see how you can complain about that aspect.

    My misunderstanding then. It sounded to me like you were implying that the books were essentially all that drove THG's success, which wasn't making any sense to me. I completely agree that the book sales and movie probably fed off each other. As for Potter 1, that adjusts to $125m OW, which THG will trump by at least $20m this weekend so it did beat SS by a decent amount even in tickets.

    I'm asking why THG beat the OW of those two when those two sold more books than THG prior to their releases. Since you seem to be saying that THG's success is based entirely on its book sales.

    Lmao, exactly. See, so why didn't Passion break the OW record then? Obviously it was more then just the book sales that drove THG to this kind of gross.

    Mainly Potter 1 and Da Vinci Code. I'm sure there are others as well, but I'm not gonna go do the research. Twilight's in '08 weren't a whole lot lower either and look at what that opened to.

    That's all fine but you haven't answered my question of what caused this to be so big when there were other movies with bigger book sales that weren't as big at the B.O.? There was obviously something there besides the books.

    It doesn't even sound like you're calling it "one of the most impressive openings" though Shawn. You just seem to kind of be brushing it aside. Maybe it isn't THE single most impressive, but it damn sure is up there with some of the other heavy hitters. If only for the fact that it's essentially the first non-sequel to open anything like this since Spiderman 10 years ago.

    There's literally thousands of movies that have been made that have had a pre-existing fanbase from a book. And yet they have failed to do what THG has, including ones like Harry Potter and Da Vinci Code that had book bases that were far larger than THG's when their first respective movies came out. So your argument doesn't really add up. Obviously something made THG a movie phenomenon outside of the book sales, since there's been others that have far exceeded those and failed to open like this.

    Not even in the same realm as Potter in '01, and slightly better than Twilight in '08. So the fact that it's destroyed Sorcerer's Stone's adjusted OW without even having a fraction of the book sales that had back then shows how impressive this really is.

    I think some of you guys are going way overboard on the camera. Yeah it was shaky in some places, but I think I got annoyed maybe two times, and both very briefly. It was hardly the Bourne Supremacy. Most of the time I felt it just fit the tone of the games not detracted from anything.

    This is so freakin amazing. If this beats TDK's OW it will absolutely be the most impressive opening since Spidey (sorry Shawn, I've seen your argument the past few pages and no dice).

    Tell me about it, especially with her saying a "Lionsgate Insider" is telling her $70m OD may still happen. I'm asking for her head on a silver platter if I wake up tomorrow and see something like $60m on BOM.
