  3. No, it's true about Jackie Chan. I even commented about it in one of my prediction articles. Those high grossing movies of his came out before he made those controversial comments.

Iron Man 3 is holding on pretty tight. About what I expected for The Great Gatsby. People were expecting this to challenge Star Trek 2? I think they got caught up in the buzz. Good for Pee Mak Phra Khanong. Another hit for a Thai horror. Awesome for The Call. It's going to increase this weekend. Buddha's Birthday admissions Friday adm. It passed The Avengers today. Can it make another 1m this weekend? Quite good for Star Trek 2. Obviously it won't sniff the outskirts of my most recent prediction but it should be around 1.225m (including sneaks). That would be 95.5% of Star Trek 2's total and an increase of 170% of Star Trek's OW. It has Iron Man 3 levels of WOM so far. The Great Gatsby benefited from the holiday with the long duration. Amazing for The Call. Great for Pee Mak Phra Khanong.
  5. Yes, it will pass 100m HK and The Avengers this weekend. You think HK & Taiwan can do 50m? That means Taiwan would have to do about 35m because I can't see it making 20m in HK. TA2 won't increase by much. It won't come close to Avatar.

Maybe gross will paint a different story. Good hold for Iron Man 3. Decent for The Great Gatsby. Excellent for The Call. This is getting huge WOM. Not bad for Pee Mak Phra Khanong. After a rocky start, The Berlin File came back with shocking walk-ins. Walk-ins attributed 89% of Berlin File's Thursday. Pretty great for The Big Wedding. Good for Searching for Sugar Man. Trance has lost a lot of sales after opening weekend. The Last Exorcism 2 is spiraling downwards after bad WOM seeping through.

Admissions will pick up heavily with Friday being a holiday. Iron Man 3 held up alright. Pee Mak Phra Khanong had sneaks earlier this week and so far it has been warmly received. This Thai horror might be able to slice out a smaller audience amidst the trio of Star Trek 2-Great Gatsby-Iron Man 3. Excellent hold for The Call. WOM is outstanding for the thriller. Very weak for The Berlin File. Last Exorcism 2 got sawed by the new openers and extremely poor WOM. Terrible for Snitch. It won't survive next weekend.
  9. Early Friday pre-sales show Iron Man 3 surprisingly out in front in a couple of places. Star Trek 2 remains the frontrunner at most locations and The Great Gatsby is behind both at most theaters. Gatsby is tracking very well in the business district though.
  10. I know that which is why I'm wondering how big Malaysia and Singapore's sneak previews were. Of all the Asian markets I saw, Star Trek 2 began showing on Friday.
  11. Star Trek 2 in Asian markets last weekend are all sneak peeks. Star Trek 2 takes off this weekend for all Asian territories. So Malaysia and Singapore had amazing sneak previews, I'm guessing?

If it makes that estimate, it will still be ahead of The Avengers' 3rd weekend by $20,000. Yes, The Avengers will start gaining ground week-to-week next weekend but it does not matter since Iron Man 3 will pass it next weekend. Iron Man 3 has had one hell of a run. 13m will happen. Star Trek 2 had very strong sneaks. This is a good sign for next weekend when it opens. WOM is at a ROBUST 83% (Veep, anyone?). Next Friday is also a holiday so if WOM continues in a similar fashion, Star Trek 2 could do some damage. The Call was the biggest opener but it had more screens than the rest of the newbies. This is nothing home to write about. The Last Exorcism 2 looks to barely nudge by Snitch despite losing the admissions battle. WOM for The Last Exorcism 2 is deplorable. It sits at only 3.85%, one of the worst approval ratings for a major movie this year. Last Exorcism 2 had its best day on Saturday and its worst day on Sunday. Its Thursday-Saturday bump was only 18% but its Sunday decrease from Saturday was a whopping 30%. Ponder on that. Meanwhile, Snitch fared worse than TLE2 because it was playing in more screens. Overall, Snitch will be The Rock's lowest opener in 8 years. _________________________________________ Next week's predictions 1. Star Trek 2 - 1.5m 2. The Great Gatsby - $650,000 3. Iron Man 3 - $450,000 (-59%) Star Trek 2 looks poised to break out with the holiday providing perfect cover. Who said anything about it not doing well in Asia?

Star Trek 2 is looking really good ahead of next week's drop date. Good increase for The Call but none of the openers did well. The Call is scoring great with audiences, however, with 100% approval. Conversely, The Last Exorcism holds just a 4% rating but has only half of The Call's screens. Snitch is doing pretty awful. It will be The Rock's lowest opener in 8 years. Even though Trance is doing a tailspin this weekend, it had a very good opening weekend so its performance isn't too shabby. Sunday adm. 19. I think The Machine allowed the call to go through but only 1 person gets to be admin. Finch switched the signal so that it went to the payphone near John making him now the admin for 24 hours.
  20. I have updated the April 25 recap with some corrections. Please see it for more details or check the records on the first page. Saturday adm. Not bad for Trance. The Big Wedding isn't doing great. Platinum Data had an excellent increase on Saturday but it could be a massive correction on Friday's part. Finding Mr. Right and Drug War had the worst increases of the top 10 on Saturday. Safe to say that the Mainland push is now over. Good hold for Finding Mr. Right though. Apart from last weekend, it has never dropped more than 43% in its entire run. This will be its 4th weekend out of 5 that it's held more than half of its business from the previous weekend. I'm liking No this weekend with admissions but actuals tell another story. Apparently, it made only $900 on Thursday from 366 admissions? Might be a typo. As far as the 2nd weekend battle between Iron Man 3 and The Avengers is looking... Daily admissions (2nd WKD) Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Total The Avengers 29,554 39,463 76,120 69,356 214,493 Iron Man 3 35,951 45,709 82,918 164,578 Gap 6,397 12,643 19,441 -49,915 Iron Man 3 has ended each day this weekend with a 6,000+ advantage. That gap should grow bigger on Sunday where Iron Man 3 should hold slightly better than The Avengers. Sunday adm. Standard stuff for Trance and The Big Wedding. Platinum Data Saturday pre-sales looks like its a correction for Friday. Good for No. Fantastic for We Were There Part 2. The Avengers took either 15 or 16 days to pull it off so even if Iron Man 3 doesn't do it on Sunday, it will beat the record on Monday. Solid opening for Trance. The Big Wedding marched to a disappointing opening. Platinum Data's opening weekend is average. Finding Mr. Right keeps holding on.
