  1. It's not bad. It'll still make over 2m. The heavier drop can be attributed to direct competition from The Host and screen competition from Drug War.
  2. Quick update:Oblivion made $61,830 on its 2nd Thursday, that is -68% from opening day. That number is -22% from Battleship's 2nd Thursday. Oblivion is looking at $440,000 this weekend and 2.1m should be its projected total.

  4. New blog post up. I'll have another update on Iron Man 3 later today.
  5. Being in a good or bad movie doesn't change the status of Superman. He's done fairly well with the most recent Superman movies. All superheroes are popular here. Lots of toy shops have superhero toys and many children buy them.
  6. Superman's very popular but not as popular as Spider-Man. I'd rank them like this 1. Spider-Man 2. Superman 3. Batman 4. Iron Man It's possible that MoS could do better than IM3 but the prequel factor stops me from believing it could. Superman has a better chance of beating IM3's OW. Legs will be a huge factor. Iron Man 3 has 3 weeks of no competition but Superman has The Lone Ranger on July 3, Monsters University on July 11, Pacific Rim on July 18 and The Wolverine on July 25. Superman isn't exactly known as a franchise built by legs so I expect opening weekend to be huge.

I see Oblivion making 2.3m. Good for Conspirators. It'll be the first in the series to reach 1m. Finding Mr. Right will go away with about 1.2-1.3m. After that sluggish start, it's a good total. Saving General Yang had the 2nd best hold of the top 10. The Croods passed 2.5m and it is $225,000 away from Wreck-It Ralph. I don't think it will get there after this weekend. Lots of theaters will dump it next week. GI Joe sputtered. Terrible hold this week. It'll gross 3.25m before leaving. I Give It A Year did bad but not as disgustingly bad as Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?. Tomorrow will have one of the worst PTA's of the year. The Hunt was solid. $7,600 PTA from 2 theaters. Seven Psychopaths scared off people making only a $2,576 PTA from 6 theaters.

Battleship fell 12% on its opening Sunday so it's doing in line with typical sci-fi apocalyptic movies. Conspirators had the best drop on Sunday but it also had the worst increase on Friday. Go figure. Croods was #3 on Sunday. It posted a solid increase. Saving General Yang outranked Finding Mr. Right on Sunday but it couldn't catch Mr. Right overall. Great drop for Mr. Right on Sunday. Huge spike for Ip Man: The Final Fight on Sunday. I'm not sure if this is an aberration or if it's genuine but it helped Ip Man: TFF to pass Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow in the official weekend rankings. 10. Life of Pi ended at #4 for 2012, behind the 3 superhero movies. No changes for the top 4. The Croods had a huge jump on Saturday but weekend hold is still looking at -75%. Drug War had a lot of Saturday sneaks, hence the huge increase from Friday.
  11. Oh look, Life of Pi is still in theaters (21st week). At least Ang Lee can boast about Life of Pi being shown in HK more weeks than Avatar.
  12. The best thing about the puppet episode was Sara Bareilles.

Battleship made more than 1.1m for the 4-day so if Oblivion can keep this up, it should be able to at least tie it in gross. Daily admissions (OW) Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Total Battleship 23,029 25,616 46,523 40,916 136,084 Oblivion 21,845 28,050 49,895 Gap -1,184 1,250 -44,089 -87,439 Conspirators is still doing OK. It had the smallest increase of the top 10 but it will easily pass Detective 1 & 2's opening weekend. Excellent for Finding Mr. Right although Friday's are usually inflated for romance movies. Good for Saving General Yang. Bad for G.I. Joe 2. Not good for I Give It A Year even though it had the best increase. Awful for The Croods. Beating Wreck-It Ralph looked like a certainty 4 days ago...now, it looks like it will miss. How things change... Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? won't be loved tomorrow or the next day. Drug War snuck into the top 10 with sneaks. Very impressive considering that only a few theaters gave it Friday night sneaks. Bad for Ip Man: The Final Fight.
  14. I'm torn about this. I like it when my shows get renewed for a full season because that means we get 22-24 episodes but I find that dramas with about half the order on broadcast networks (12-13) are much better plot wise. There's too many filler episodes on broadcast networks.

Multiplier reached almost 8x for the day. So far so good across the reviews front. Holding a 91% approval rating from users. Great for Conspirators. Up a healthy 50% from Detective 2. Good hold for Finding Mr. Right. Decent for Saving General Yang. Pretty awful for GI Joe 2. Yikes for The Croods.
  16. Anyone watching? I'm liking the addition of Ricky Martin to the judging panel. He seems to be very sincere and honest about helping people. Standouts for me so far are Harrison Craig, Celia Pavey, Simon Meli, Lyric Mcfarland and Anna Weatherup. Kathy Hinch did pretty well although I hate that song. Geez, it's only episode 3 and the judges still have many slots to fill. Could be a great season.
  17. I am liking Shakira on the panel, way more fun than Christina "I need to feel important so I'll bitch about Adam's team" Aguilera. Usher's alright but I do think he's an upgrade over Cee-Lo "Look at me! I dress weird and have a sidekick pet." Green. That being said, The Voice Australia is blowing them out of the water with their talent. Not really liking the artists on The Voice this year except for Sarah Simmons and Ryan Innes.

UA and GH are giving it the biggest screen. Conspirators is getting full day showings at most theaters. Will You Still Love Tomorrow? and I Give It A Year lag behind. Seven Psychopaths is getting a limited release in UA theaters while The Hunt crosses paths with the 2 arthouse theaters. Holdovers are mixed. GI Joe 2 will get heavily crushed by the new competition but will be heading into its 3rd weekend with showtimes in almost all theaters. Croods is getting similar showtimes to GI Joe 2. Finding Mr. Right is gone from most MCL theaters but all Broadway/AMC and UA theaters will continue to show it for another week. Ip Man: The Final Fight will likely face limited showings at Broadway/AMC theaters. UA will keep this another week. Ticket sales between Oblivion and Conspirators have been very close with Conspirators taking a slight lead at night over Oblivion. Thursday morning looks like a clear win for Conspirators so far. Oblivion will turn it around with walk-ins though.

  21. Hi everyone. For anyone wondering why I've been running off only to come back again, I'd like to explain to my friends and readers that I really intended my post in January to be my goodbye post. My disinterest in box office as a whole and things happening in my life made me really stressed out and forced me to reevaluate my situation and I thought it would be best if I just left. But after a few months, it looks like the worst is over so I've decided to come back again. If you need to ask me a question right away, I am on twitter. And you can check out my blog. I'll be cross posting certain posts from there over here like this one.2013 Q1 loss down 2%For all those wondering, I'll be covering Iron Man 3 here.
  22. Thanks for the messages. I really appreciate it. :)There's something I don't think you will even notice if I don't mention it. Silver Linings Playbook was #2 this weekend but it was a very strong runner-up. It grossed $350,000 this weekend and has a grand total of $412,000 with sneak previews. The most impressive thing about its opening weekend was that it was only playing in 17 theaters. Its PTA was more than $20,000 this weekend and its the 1st semi-wide release to gross above $20,000 for the weekend. Jack winning over Playbook doesn't tell the whole story here.By the way, you can follow me on twitter. Ask me any question and I'll answer. You can refer to me as Bluebomb if you like. But this doesn't mean that I'm returning, however I'm not ruling anything out. We'll see.
