Weekend Prediction thread 3/29-3/31 Play the Derby
Maxmoser3 replied to Impact's topic in Box Office Derby
@mahnamahna I love your thinking and projections but I’m going to disagree for now on next weekend’s projections. But I do think 1917 should have a solid hold next weekend nonetheless. Bad Boys For Life: $31.5 million 3-day/ $38 million 4-day Doolittle: $21 million/ $26.5 million 4-day -
It’s not her choice of projects in my opinion. American Ultra I liked. Camp X-Ray and Personal Shopper had decent To ok word of mouth. Charlie’s Angels was a mistake either way(even if you had Kate Upton, Lindsey Pelas, and Alexandra Dadadario in it). Maybe the Rupert Sanders affair scandal scared people off or that it’s the “Twilight Curse” because people can’t take most of the Twilight cast seriously anymore. I mean Robert Pattinson tried to do serious films but Cosmopolis wasn’t a hit. The Batman may be a redeemer for him, but it could also underperform too. Taylor Lautner tried to do action films, Abduction flopped and is now a shitty Adam Sandler film junkie. Ashlee Greene did The Apparition it bombed drastically, she’s got looks as a model and is attractive but acting wise now she’s doing Hallmark Channel films. So now I think about it maybe it is the “Twilight” curse.

1917 doing over $30 million opening weekend for Universal will be a win! Especially considering their 4th quarter of 2019 wasn’t all that great as Cats, and Black Christmas were their major under performers. They had mid-range films do ok like Last Christmas and Queen & Slim. Also Doolittle next weekend smells flop. The 1960’s Rex Harrison adaptation had the same situation it had production problems and budget issues. It was also one of the biggest bombs. The Eddie Murphy version did well thanks to family audiences and The Nutty Professor’s time slot was a great spot in the middle of the summer! Also Robert Downey Jr outside of The Avengers can’t sell a film on his own right(majority of The Avengers cast can’t sell a movie) as it’s been proven before with his costars ex. ScarJo and Ghost In The Shell or Chris Hemsworth with Huntsman or Men In Black: International.

Blumhouse didn’t have a success with their Black Christmas remake so could that contribute to this? -
Another mess. Katie Holmes you know right off the bat that she’s a crazy bitch in this one, and the twist near the end was very predictable. Very boring to sit through but laughably bad at times. Grade: D

Never Talk To Strangers (1995)
Maxmoser3 replied to baumer's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel probably would’ve called this a Hitchcock Basic Instinct cash grab. Because “Hitchcock Basic Instinct cash grab” is the easiest way to describe this movie. Antonio Banderas is a boring character that could’ve been something but was there to get laid and die and that was it. Rebecca De Mornay’s performance was also too goofy for this mess. However Dennis Miller’s performance was quite fitting as it was one of the few brighter spots. grade: D- -
Porn Star: The Legend Of Ron Jeremy (2001)
Maxmoser3 replied to baumer's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Very short documentary, but quite fun to watch. Fun interviews with Al Lewis(Grandpa Munster), and interesting info about the porn industry and Ron Jeremy’s influence on porn. Definitely well worth a watch! grade: B+ -
This movie will piss people off. It’s a very strange film to follow in my opinion. I liked Sandler as a crook and Kevin Garnett’s performance was good. Following Sandler’s character is one of the bright spots of the film. Also the score is fantastic kinda reminded me of the score to the 1983 film Scarface. Idina Menzel plays a bitch very well. And the ending was very shocking and tough to follow at first till I later on understood what happened. this review sounds like a cluster fuck. But in small terms, I liked Uncut Gems for the 1st viewing(May pick it up on home video) but it’s a film not for everybody. grade: B

This movie was a mess. Sid Haig was pointless for a few minutes in the film, it was best they should’ve cut his bits out as you could tell he was too unwell to be in the film. Sheri Moon Zombie as Baby firefly was kinda annoying and obnoxious this time around, it was better when she was in her 30’s playing the role but almost 50 years old nah. Also some scenes and the plot felt kinda un-necessary like when the whole plot with the warden and his family that was stretched out too long. Also the second half of the film felt too much like an almost carbon copy of the second half of The Devil’s Rejects but in Mexico with a happier ending. The good of 3 From Hell, the news clips at the beginning were really good especially about how this was the longest trial ever! Some of the song choices flowed ok as well like In A Gadda Da Vida flowed great for the shootout/showdown scene near the end. However, the best part of 3 From Hell is the character of the Midnite Wolfman. His lines of dialogue were hilarious and he was definitely the bright spot of this clustered up mess. I’ve seen worse movies in the 2010’s that pissed me off way more than this. But 3 From Hell still will remain as one of my least favorite movies of 2019. im lowering my grade from a C- to a D+
