  1. There is two major theatrer chains in my country (Cinex and Cines Unidos), and the social media accounts of these two chains (IG, Facebook, X) are filled with comments asking when is Sound Of Freedom going to come out. If the rest of Latin America has this amount of interest for the movie, I think this has potential to do huge numbers overseas.

Btw, I'm glad Angel Studios has a release date confirmed.

It's incredibly dumb that they went from calling it HBO Max to just Max. HBO Max uses the HBO brand which is pretty strong. Max is a meaningless name.

I remember back in the early 2010s when Cinemax in Latinamerica was rebranded as just Max for the premium package channels while Cinemax became a basic cable channel. At least the bumpers during the commercials for Max in LA where really creative and out of the box instead of just having Max and a blue background. They should've kept the purple color at least because it stands out among all of the streaming service that use only blue for some reason.

  5. I really wanted to love Barbie, but unfortunately it didn't do it for me. This movie is a mess. The Mattel stuff was really cringy. The mother/daughter relationship was not developed enough, most of the jokes felt flat, the messaging got borderline preachy and kinda spiteful at some parts. I am not a fan of how Barbie treated Ken in the movie, because the moment Ken takes over Barbieland I was supposed to feel bad about her but... I felt no empathy for her because she treated him like crap.

I did enjoyed the music and all of the dance sequences (though not putting the Aqua song was a major mistake), the production design is gorgeous to look at, and the whole final scene with Barbie and Ruth was actually very touching and heartfelt. And more than Ken, I really loved Allen. Allen was awesome. Michael Cera is awesome here.

5/10. It's a mixed bag for me. Lady Bird is still Gerwig's best movie.

  6. Barbie pulled 106k admissions in Venezuela in just 2 days. It's going to  surpass the Super Mario Bros opening weekend for sure.

Lots of people in Caracas dressed in pink everywhere (Men included). The Aqua song its being blasted everywhere I go, very loud. They're treating this thing like a freaking World Cup event. I can't escape it.

Even more surprising is Oppy, because showtimes are very limited and fewer (mostly because of its runtime) and it still managed to sell out 10k in 2 days (That's what Indy 5 made in 5 days).

    Cinema is alive again.

just my opinion of course, but I have always found latam dubbing to be quite competent, there's even been a few cases where I've preferred it to the original

The old dubs from 90s and early 2000s movies where amazing, especially the Disney and DreamWorks movies but then for some reason they started using "star talents" (i.e. youtubers/influencers) to attract younger audiences and the quality in general went down. Or maybe I preffer older dubs out of pure nostalgia, idk.

There's ONLY ONE subtitled showing per day for Barbie among the 3 theatres in my city (the others are dubbed), and even when said showing was sold out for the whole weekend, theatres added more dubbed showings but no subtitled showings 🙄.

So I'll watch it dubbed tomorrow and I'll have to wait until at least next weekend to watch it in English.

Welcome to my world. I have to travel an hour to Caracas just to watch subtitled movies at 2 or 3pm showtimes because there's only dubbed movies at my nearest mall. It's more expensive but I really dislike dubbing so I don't regret doing sacrifices like this.

So you're saying that POC females don't look beautiful and only white females look beautiful?

Now you're twisting my words, buddy. I never said that. My point is that Rachel Zegler in particular is not prettier than Gal Gadot, therefore missing the whole point of the story.

Anyway, looks like no one Is going to change their minds about this so I'm gonna stop here.
