  1. Yeah I read that. But they said $2.2M was for Thursday. And Thursday was a holiday so the number for Wed would be less than that, but then it doesn't add up to $4.8M. Maybe that $2.2M was actually for Wed. That's why I need the official reports for confirmation. Btw, I was the one who gave the explanation about the holiday 😅. And it's related to Hinduism not Buddhism.
  2. Oh wow that's bigger than expected in Indonesia. So I guess 2.2M Wed + 2.6M Thu? If that's correct then the OD record was broken? Seriously I need some detail reports because this is crazy. That would put IW's 5-day OW (which is the biggest ever) as a realistic target for CM!
  3. Thursday was a holiday. It's called Nyepi, or Day of Silence, celebrated by Hindus, mainly in Bali. But it's a public holiday for the whole country. $2.25m is HUGE. One of the biggest days ever I think? Even if you include Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I'm not sure though about that.
  4. While that might be true, South East Asia is actually better than any other regions in Asia, in terms of gender equality. Especially the younger generation, which is the main target of this movie, they don't care if the superhero is a female, or if the movie has a strong women empowerment message. They just want to be entertained. In fact, the WOM is very positive in Indonesia. I have yet to see any gender-related complains. The only negative comments I've seen are about the action scenes. And about how the beginning was a little bit boring. Other than that, people absolutely love it.
  5. If CM breaks this record, that means the OD record will be broken twice in the span of only 1 week. I personally don't see it, but it's possible. Even if it doesn't do it, it will be close to IW's OD.
  6. From Deadline: I've never seen they mention anything about Indonesian movie before. But then this is a huge achievement. That $2.05M equals to around 720,000 admissions. Including previews it's 800,000 on OD. More than twice the previous record OD for local movie, which was 313,623 adm. The first movie is the 4th biggest of all time, after Infinity War, Jangkrik Boss Part 1 (a local movie) and Fast & Furious 8. This sequel will not beat IW's total beacuse of the rush factor and the fact that Captain Marvel is coming in several days. It might not even reach the first movie's total, but who knows. The question is, will Endgame reclaim the OD record? Well, I doubt it, thanks to the reported 3 hours runtime that will limit its potential in one day. But I expect it to break IW's OW and total record.
  7. OMG Extreme Job! Roaring Currents is too far away, right? So it will settle at #2 all time? Can't wait to see it! It will be released here soon.
  8. Indonesia (source: twitter @bicaraboxoffice) There are no offical total gross and admissions for 2018, but the estimated numbers are, Total gross: $399 million Total admissions: at least 137 million (local market share around 37%) Both are new records. Total admissions for local movies released in 2018 is 50,151,978 (+17.6% from 2017), a new record (broke 2017's record), and already more than 3 times the number in 2015 (16m admissions). Local film industry is booming right now. I hope it continues in 2019. Top 15 Foreign Movies of 2018: Bumblebee will pass $10m soon so there will be 9 movies above that mark, which broke the previous record of 6 movies in 2017. For comparison, 2015 only had 2. Top 15 Local Movies of 2018 (by admissions): There are 14 movies (soon will be 15) with more than 1 million admissions. Also broke the record of 2017 with 11 movies. Again, for comparison, 2015 only had 3 movies. I'm comparing those numbers with 2015's to show that this market has grown so fast in the last 3 years and is still growing.
  9. Wow Aquaman will be the 2nd biggest superhero movie ever after Infinity War, and very likely the 3rd biggest foreign movie of all time (5th including local movies). Who would've thought? I mean, before Justice League, the idea of an Aquaman movie sounded ridiculous. But here we are now.
  10. Thank you. It's so devastating that we've had 3 big earthquakes/tsunamis in the span of only 5 months. I'm so sad to the point that I can't watch or read the news about it anymore. It's just too much. Anyways, back to the good news. Yes, the maket is growing fast. Box office records are broken every year. Before 2017, only 9 imported movies ever reached $10m. By the end of 2018, we will have 24! Local movies box office is growing even more. Since 2016, the total admissions for Indonesian movies have been rising significantly, as you can see here: People thought 2016 was a fluke, just like 2008 & 2009. But then 2017 grew again from the year before. And 2018 grew even bigger, and now it has reached 49m and will get to 50m eventually. So the admission number for local movies has tripled in just 3 years. We'll see if this continues in 2019. But I'm very optimistic about it.
  11. So Bumblebee opened with $4.9m in Indonesia. Comparison with other Transformers movies: Even though it's basically a spin-off, it opened about the same with 2 previous movies. I expect it to have a slightly higher total than AoE, thanks to better WOM, and year-end holidays. I don't think Mary Poppins will be a competition.

  13. The latest numbers for Aquaman and Wreck-It-Ralph 2: With almost 3.5x multipliers, which is very rare in Indonesia, it became the 2nd biggest WDAS movie ever, after Big Hero 6.
  14. List of biggest imported movies of 2018 in Indonesia. Based on the latest estimates, Aquaman has climbed to #5 with $11.7m, and could be as high as #2 by the end of its run. Bumblebee will likely enter this list soon. If it makes more than $10m too, then we will have 9 movies above that milestone this year, which broke 2017 record with "only" 6 movies.
  15. Finally saw this movie. It was just released here this weekend. One of the most creative and unique movies I've ever seen. And it's super hillarious! One of the best times at the movies this year. But why did Corpse always say it's 30 minutes long? The one-shot scene does last for 30-something minutes, but the whole movie is 97 minutes long.
  16. Hmmm conflicting reports. So is it doing good or not? Bohemian is becoming a phenomenon. Very understandable, since Queen is HUGE in Japan, and the movie itself is a crowd-pleaser that you wanna watch over and over again. What I don't understand is how Venom's doing that good in Japan. Actually, that question is applicable for other countries too, including mine, and the US.
  17. The hype here in Indonesia is crazy! It's one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Probably 2nd only to Infinity War. People have been asking and waiting for this movie for months. There's a theater that has 44 showtimes in one day for FB2. I expect HUGE opening.
  18. Wow is October OW record gonna be broken twice in the same year? I hope it is, cause that would be exciting. It's gonna be so close!
  19. Interestingly, it's getting overwhemingly positive reactions here in Indonesia. We do have some questionable taste in movies, but lately it has gotten better and better. Usually movies with reviews this bad have bad WOM too (eg. The Nun), so I expected the same for Venom. But from the comments I heard/read, people actually love it. Only few of them hate it. It's so weird. Maybe I should wait until this weekend for more comments. Or the movie is not that bad at all and it's entertaining enough for the general audience to enjoy.
  20. It just opened in Indonesia. At first, I thought people here weren't that interested in the movie. But the book is apparently quite popular and the success in the US really built the hype. So this time the late release actually helped. And having seen the movie, I think the WOM will be excellent. Many people here are familiar with the Chinese culture, especially Chinese in Singapore and South East Asia in general (notably in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia) which was shown a lot in this movie. Some of the jokes were even funnier to us. With landmarks like Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands, the locations were also familiar, especially to Indonesians who often go to Singapore. But most importantly, it's a great rom-com. I can't even remember when was the last time I saw a classic rom-com this good. So I expect a good box office performance in Indonesia.
  21. As expected, it's HUGE in Indonesia. Horror movies, especially from The Conjuring universe, are almost the same level as MCU movies here, box office wise. And MCU is the biggest/most popular movie franchise.
  22. What a weird question. If the Japanese didn't like MI:Fallout, it wouldn't have gotten close to MI:RN and 5b yen to become one of the biggest movies of the year. If you're talking about legs, they're fine. Nothing indicates that the Japanese didn't like it. Just a little bit shorter than expected thanks to crowded summer and Code Blue overperforming.
  23. Why are you saying this over and over and over again? It's borderline trolling 🙄. If you think it's a terrible release date, then when is better? Because I don't see any other options. Also, it's already made a lot of money in SK anyway.
