  1. Wow looks like I might be right after all. It's gonna get 1m adm lol.
  2. I said it earlier, the only 1 million contender in July is The Doll 2. But I'm not feeling the hype right now. I'm very active on social media and there was hype for Danur & Jailangkung. We'll see this weekend.
  3. Yeah finally! The movie deserves it. I'm so happy now haha. Make a good movie, and people will show up. Also apparently, make a horror movie and push the marketing, regardless of the quality, people will show up too lol. I'm rooting for Spidey. I think it can reach $13m. Yes DM3 is taking a lot of screens and viewers from SMH especially the kids. But I feel that the WOM is really good, and people who didn't get the tickets for DM3 will definitely choose to see Spidey instead.
  4. Scratch that. Sweet 20 is already at 970,639 adm. Looks like it's gonna get to 1m after all.
  5. So close yet so far. It's very likely that it will lose too many screens before it reaches 1m. I'd be pissed if it stops at 990k or something lol. Still an impressive number though.
  6. Huh, $6.9m. Still huge though. How big did FF7, Age of Ultron, Civil War and BvS open? About Indonesian movies with 1m admission, I agree with you, this year we will have 6 at least. And maybe 1 or 2 surprises from, like you said, Raditya or Ernest, or others. Perhaps The Doll 2? I mean, horror movies are on a roll this year. The first movie did pretty well. Btw, it's pretty interesting that 2008 and 2009 were huge for local movies, and then the total admission number went down significantly in 2010. But it was actually pretty stable from 2010 to 2015, before it exploded to 2008 level again in 2016. I heard people saying about this 8-year cycle, since 2000, 2008, and 2016 are important years for Indonesian movies (Petualangan Sherina, the movie that started it all, was released in 2000). Maybe it's just a coincidence, but like I said, it's really interesting.
  7. Yes Dangal was screened in Indonesia, I saw it here. But I think in Jakarta it was only in two theaters. I didn't check other cities though. So it's a limited release. But it was screened for months. I remember seeing the list of movies and thinking "Dangal is still playing?". So I'm guessing it did really well in that limited release.
  8. Wow! Will it be bigger than FF8? FF8 has the opening record right? Well Spiderman has always been extremely popular here. Can't wait for the number!
  9. I completely thought the total admission for Indonesian movies in 2017 was trailing behind 2016, since last year we had huge movies like Comic 8, AADC2 and My Stupid Boss, and some of the movies this year didn't meet expectation in terms of box office. But then I realized 2017 has a lot of movies in the middle (500k - 1m adm) which 2016 lacked of. Very good for Indonesian film industry. This makes me wonder what happened in 2016 that made the total admission doubled the year before. Also, wow at Jailangkung. It's actually having good legs despite being an awful movie.
  10. There are a lot actually. First, Mira Lesmana, producer and founder of Miles Films. She's known for producing quality movies, with a lot of them in the all time highest admission list for Indonesian movies (#2, #4 and #8). Riri Riza often works as the director for her movies since he's co-managing Miles Films with her, and he is one of Indonesian top directors. Hanung Bramantyo is also one of the best. He's able to combine quality and commercial aspects in his movies. As the result, many of them are commercially successful and at the same time winning film awards. Upi is one of my favorite directors and screenwriters. Her two latest movies (as the screenwriter) are critical and commercial hits with one of them, My Stupid Boss (which she also directed), became the 6th biggest Indonesian movies of all time, and IMO is one of the best comedy ever. Anggy Umbara has emerged lately as the top new directors after having a string of blockbusters, with his latest movie broke the record by a huge margin to become the biggest Indonesian movie of all time. My other favorites are Nia Dinata and Joko Anwar. They don't make movies that often though. Their movies are really good but not necessarilly commercial.
  11. Spiderman of course, by far. That's my expectation anyway. Even though it's for sure gonna be affected by DM3. But SM's OW is gonna be huge enough. Meanwhile DM3 won't get maximum number of screens since it still has to share them with SM. Just saw the movie last night, and I absolutely loved it! Best SM movie since SM2, the most fun SM movie ever and Tom Holland is my favorite Peter Parker and Spiderman. One of my friends who saw it with me loved it too, the other said it was funny, but overall just okay. It was a sold-out show, and people seemed to really enjoy it.
  12. I was about to post that. The tickets for Spider-Man are selling really fast. I'm excited about the OW (and to see the movie itself of course). I also hope Sweet 20 are not losing too many screens. Just please take the screens from TF5, and the other local movies instead. It's already at 620k adm and deserves 1m adm. It's gonna be very hard to get 1m, but the WOM is really good, so who knows.
  13. Jailangkung has been marketed as "Lebaran movie" from months ago. And the hype around me felt huge compared to other movies. And people here love horror movies, so I thought it would already be at 1 million in 5 days, instead of 800k. 5 days or 6 days are not that much different though lol.
  14. I thought TF5's opening was gonna be lower than that. Looks like my initial prediction was right about crossing $10m. I'm still thinking (and hoping) it won't pass TF4. The local movies are kinda underwhelming, box office-wise. Jailangkung did a little bit lower than I thought, but as expected it will clear 1 million admission easily, and be the biggest one out of the four. Too bad because it's an awful movie. I can't with bad horror movies dominating this year. I also expected Surat Kecil untuk Tuhan to be much bigger than that, considering the promo that it's getting. Sweet 20 was actually a surprise for me. I thought it would be the least attended. Now I hope it gets more than 1 million admission, because it's by far the best movie out of four. I would say it's one of the best local movies this year. Couldn't stop laughing from start to finish.
  15. Exactly the same here in Indonesia. Well, there is one big standalone theater in Jakarta, which is one the oldest ones I think, built in 1932. But modern theaters are always inside shopping malls. I actually think there should be more standalone theaters here, especially in small towns and rural areas. That way the tickets can be cheaper, and it also will be easier for low-income people to access.
  16. Wow POTC5. Almost as big as Detective Conan on OD at usual locations. I know it's discount day, but still. How big the OW is gonna be in yen?
  17. How big do you think Transformers 5 is going to be? At first I thought it would reach $10m easily. But with competitions from local movies, then Spider-Man in July (which is gonna be huge for sure), and bad WOM (I also fell asleep for like half of the movie lol), I'm not so sure anymore.
  18. They were talking about BatB, not WW. WW is not even a week old. Too early to be categorized as anything.
  19. Wonder Woman opened with $803,000 on Wednesday. That's actually really good.
  20. Yeah I was about to drop off my friend at a busway station, so she could take the bus that goes through Kampung Melayu when we heard the news about the bomb. She ended up taking the bus with a different route. It was terrible and scary, but I think it's a good thing that things went back to normal so fast. I feel that even in the following day people were already back to their usual routine. I went to the mall yesterday and then to the supermarket, both were packed with people. And the traffic was definitely not quiet. Caught in an awful traffic jam on my way to that mall. So a lot of people still went out even though there was a terrorist attack just the night before. We are indeed not afraid.
  21. Where is this ScreenX? Looks interesting. 4DX can be fun. But if it has too many fast movements like BvS, it will be very distracting. Depends on the movie.
  22. Yeah, I remember Cinemaxx were targeting 1000 screens in 5 years and 2000 screens in 10 years. And that was like 3 years ago. 2 years left and not even 200 screens.
  23. To be fair, big budget blockbusters are supposed to be, well, blockbusters. They're big not only here, but everywhere. Just look at North American box office. Also full with CBM and other big budget blockbusters, not much variety either. In fact, 6 of the movies in current top 10 of 2017, are also in the top 10 of 2017 Indonesian box office (excluding local movies). Now supernatural horror movies on the other hand, is a specific character of Indonesian market. Just like how Japan loves animation and musical more than other countries. Speaking of horror, I've seen Danur and I don't understand how it became so big. It's not that bad, but nothing special about it and definitely not scary. Btw Critical Eleven is already at 616.000 admissions. Gonna make more than your prediction I think, around 800-900k. Or if it survives Ramadhan month and the battle for screens, maybe it can actually touch 1 million, who knows. Sometimes they play local movies for weeks.
  24. The first few Harry Potter films were in a league of their own. But FB still managed to outgross DH1 in yen. That's pretty impressive for a spin-off/prequel. And I agree if they bring Dumbledore and Hogwarts into the story, the sequels has a potential to do much more.
