RT has become in an increasingly influential source in how people how decide how to part with their money IMO, especially with the rise of streaming services in the last couple of years. With movie tickets as high as $20 (especially if you live in NYC), no one's gonna go out of their way to shell out a pretty penny for a film they aren't fully convinced they'll enjoy.

Exactly, this is my point about going to see a movie as a binary decision. It's not a streaming decision where you quit after ten minutes like is available to the masses these days. You are either going to pay to see a movie or you aren't which is why I like the attempt to put reviews in that box of its good or it isn't. Clearly there is a lot of variance on results especially with the middling scores but on average its an accurate representation of quality.

    People ignored RT for AWE.

    They ignored RT for OST.

They get tired of wasting money and pay attention to RT for POTC5 and it's RT fault the movie doesn't do well?

You burned the audience 2 to 3 times!

How stupid do you expect them to be?

Well a decent portion of the country did vote for the Donald.

Just looking at the movies I've watched this year.

    Spit - 75% on RT

    Get Out - 99%

    Logan - 92%

    King Kong - 76%

Ghost in the Shell - 45%

    Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - 81%

Sorry but I don't see these ratings as incredibly unfair or inaccurate.

And if these ratings are ridiculous you can still analyze the audience score or the average rating.

Rotten tomatoes isn't broken. And returning to the times where reviews were scattered everywhere is ridiculous.

RT works and it's why it's such a hit with the mainstream. The fanboys who whine about it are clueless.

Yeah, if Abrams made STID in 2011 instead of Super 8, it would have led to a thriving Trek franchise currently I think. And why hide Khan? That was a stupid marketing decision.

I'm probably in the minority here but I think STID is fine, it's not as good as the previous installment but maybe it was destined to underperform in a way the forum couldn't understand beforehand.

ah yes, I remember loads thinking the opening weekend record and 400m was locked for that one

Its performance still is baffling to me esp given IM3 which wasn't exactly a great sequel either. Sure IM3 had a post TA halo effect but that difference from IM2 having a IM halo effect is still pretty ridiculous.

Pirates is gonna save face with overseas numbers like a lot of franchises do these days. Will it be enough for a 6th movie? I don't know if Disney thinks it's worth it when they have much more profitable ventures.

I feel like a broken record but OS doesn't save them when they get a much smaller % of the take. You still have to perform well domestically.

Well screw the critics. Baywatch was pretty hilarious and a really fun ride. Zac Efron is great Dwayne Johnson is awesome and the eye candy is amazing.

You have your crazy theories but I admire how often you go against the grain. You'll tell it how it is in your view rather than a preconceived notion of what you were expecting.
