  1. Need Imax just for the tennis scenes. I'm obsessed with the one shot in the trailer where you get the tennis ball's eye view during their match.
  2. Think Like A Man - C+ - Meh. Put it on while I was doing some work; it's alright for something to have on in the background. A couple fun characters, but overall it's pretty generic.Contraband - C - Pretty boring honestly, which is too bad since it has a bunch of actors that I like. Too much focus on plot and not enough on character.American Reunion - B+ - Really enjoyed it even if it's mostly due to nostalgia. I'd say it's the best one since the original. The Bourne Legacy - C+ - Pretty disappointed with this one. Renner and Norton were both solid, but the movie was pretty dull for stretches. The 3rd act was a mess. I'm all in if they can get Damon and Renner together for the next one though.Battleship - C+ - Maybe it was because of low expectations but I actually enjoyed this one a bit. The acting was horrible and the movie was pretty ridiculous at times, but hey by the second half I was actually into it.

  13. Wow, people need to calm the fuck down. This is only a box office forum after all. Anyways to get back on topic, I didn't see The Lorax opening quite that high. I guess I'm just bad at telling what appeals to young kids nowadays.
  14. Pretty damn impressive for Act of Valor as long as those numbers don't go down too much. Doesn't look like my kind of movie, but good job by Relativity marketing it.
  15. There are quite a lot of things that I appreciate about the prequels, but I'll stick mostly to Episode 1 given that it's the freshest in my mind (I went to see it in 3D over the weekend). - The Music: Obviously John Williams' score for each movie is fantastic. Many mediocre scenes are made much better by his score - The Palpatine plot line and Ian McDiarmid: I enjoyed watching how Palpatine shaped most of the events of the prequels, and Mcdiarmid's performance was always fun to watch. I did prefer him when he was a little bit more subdued in Episode 1 & 2, compared to the "NO! NO! NO!" type of stuff in Episode 3. - Political Stuff/Getting a better understanding of how the Galaxy functioned: I liked all the senate scenes, and seeing the political machinations of the different senators. In Episode 2 I was much more invested in Palpatine's rise to power in the senate than anything that was happening with Anakin and Padmé. And yes, I even liked hearing about trade negotiations in Episode 1. - Liam Neeson: I never really appreciated his performance until recently, but I think he really holds Episode 1 together. - Darth Maul: Even though I knew it was coming, the scene in where the door opens and Darth Maul extends his double-bladed lightsaber was great to see on the big screen again. - The climactic battle of Episode 1: I legitimately enjoy each of the four parts of the final fight, even Anakin blowing up the Droid control ship. Obviously it's not as good as the three part battle in ROTJ, but it was still a good ending to the movie. - Jango Fett: He was pretty bad-ass, and his fight with Obi-Wan was the best action sequence of Episode 2. - Costumes: I'm usually not much of a costumes kind of guy, but the sheer amount of different elaborate outfits that Queen Amidala wore in Episode 1 was pretty amazing. - New Planets: I liked seeing new, interesting planet designs like Naboo and Coruscant in Episode 1, or Kamino and Geonosis in Episode 2. Anyways, I could probably go on like this for a long time, just like I could go about things that are wrong with the prequels. The original trilogy is easily superior, but I really do believe that the prequels are very watchable, and have some pretty interesting things going on in them. The prequels get bashed a little too much around the internet I think.

  17. Wow at Journey 2. Remember last week when early Friday numbers first started coming in and everyone thought it was a bomb. Now it might be able to crawl its way to 100M.
  18. Damn, sucks that you were eliminated Spaghetti. Anyways what happens to me this week? Do my scores for the weekend count for whichever team I end up being placed on?
  19. I'm going to cautiously say that the slump is over. It's been six straight weeks of mostly great performances, and some of them from some pretty average looking movies. For all any of us know the box office could fall apart again at any time, but things are looking good.
  20. Pretty crazy weekend. I had started to buy into the hype for The Vow earlier this week, but I never thought Safe House would break out this much too. There aren't many stars that can open a film better than Denzel. Smith, and Cruise probably, and that might be about it. Also nice job for Journey 2 if it's really on track for 20m+. Considering it's an awful looking sequel to a movie that no one really cared about in the first place that's really a pretty decent performance. Of course given the budget it's not exactly a hit yet, but still it joins the long line of 2012 movies that have done better than I thought. Hope that streak continues for a long time.
  21. Watched this after the Super Bowl and I was pretty impressed. Much more entertaining than American Idol or X-Factor.

  23. Surrogate seems like a sure thing for acting noms, but I don't know about picture. Beats of the Southern Wild has a chance but it feels like one of those movies that everyone loves at Sundance, but then doesn't stack up well against the true heavyweights of the year. Obviously I haven't seen either one though so who really knows.
