  1. Pixars position as number 1 was always based on it's ability to launch succesfull original movies - it's had 6 original movies pass $500m WW - far more than Dreamworks (2), Illumination (1) or Blue Sky (erm..0). The trouble for Pixar is trying to compete in a Summer market dominated by animated sequels. Something like Brave would probably have fared much better with the same sort of Autumn/Winter release that Up got in Europe. But then you win some and lose some - next year Dreamworks have Turbo going up against MU and DM2 and that'll end up faring even worse than Brave has.
  2. This is pretty much following HTTYD OS - which I suppose means there isn't much enthusiasm for this type of Olde World Fantasy. It might just creep past 500m WW thanks to it's bigger DOM take but it doesn't bode well for HTTYD2.
  3. Not sure if that's true - the last three Pixar originals (Rat,Wall-E,Up) grossed 1.153bn Os for an average of 384m - which crushes the last three Dreamworks originals (MvA,HTTYD,MegaM) which only managed 634m for an average of 211m.When it comes to sequels Dreamworks get closer - but even then TS3 and Cars 2 managed an Os average of 508m which still manages to beat the average of SFA, KFP2 and PIB at 473m.All of which means that Madagascar 3 should beat Brave. Brave should crush ROTG.And Monster University should flatten them all. :PStill my 550m WW for this looks a bit low but I shall wait for IA4 and Brave to hit before giving up all hope.
  4. To be fair to the schedulers theres nowhere M3 could go. IA4 has got the post European Championship / pre Olympics slot - Brave has got the post Olympics one. Both those will be fine. But M3 has a real battle on its hands - wouldn't surprise me if it dropped from M2 (well it'd surprise me a bit but not much ) . But if any animated film underperforms this year it'll be this one - maybe 500 WW - is that too low??
  5. Sorry but that's a bit unrealistic isn't? IA3 increased so much from IA2 in Europe because it moved from a March/April release date to the much bigger month of July where it faced no competition untill Up started it's slow roll out at the end of July (and a lot of European markets didn't even get Up until Sep/Oct).M3 on the other hand is moving from a big holiday Dec release for M2 into June. After it starts rolling out on 6 June it faces - the European Championships from 8 June - 1 July, IA4 starting from the 27 June, the Olympics from 27 July - 12 August and Brave from 1 August. In the UK and Germany M3 isn't even opening till Oct and while it might do OK there it won't manage any IA3 type rises or holds. All said and done M3 will probably do well just to stay flat across Europe this year. And yes - first! (of probably not very many) posts! Whoo-hoo!
