  1. One of the best Superhero movies. Amazingly, it doesn't feel like a superhero movie. Fantastic visuals, good score, fine performance by cumberbatch. The script is strangely fascinating (No pun intended). I would rate it below the CA: The First Avenger. Some of the lines were superb and had great humor. The interaction between the Doctor and Kaecilius about his name was hilarious. Great time at the movies. Eager for the Doctor's return Mid credit scene was funny. I'm assuming we will see Dr. Strange in Thor 3. Rating: A P.S.: Dormamamu, I've come to Bargain. was absolutely precious.
  2. Copyright infringement. You shall be sued by Donald " The Pervert" Trump after the election. Anyway, fantastic for Dr. Strange.
  3. A mixed bag. Parts of the movie is good and some parts are just annoying. The pacing is uneven. They did not have to show Ben Affleck in his room with flashing light, loud music and rod multiple times. That started to get on my nerves. The movie could have used efficient editing. While Affleck is talented, his morose expression all the time is not doing him any favors. He may become the male version of Kristen Stewart. The action scenes are well staged. Given the variety of available bad guys/organizations, using John Lithgow and his company seems lame. Brother's role is well defined and I liked the character. C+
  4. Excellent thriller. The pacing is fast but for a short spell in the second half. Hanks is excellent as usual. Felicity Jones is quite good. The score which is a variation of the The Davinci Code is good. Liked it a lot. B+
  5. Liked it. Solid performances all around. Denzel, Chris Pratt and Haley Bennett stand out. Donofrio and the rest of the gang are very good. Antoine Fuqua has done a good job here. The action scenes are well staged. While nowhere close to the original, it is a very entertaining western. Rating: B+
  6. Well made thriller. I was absorbed throughout. The best part is that some of the plot mistakes already mentioned in the thread, do not seem to impact the enjoyment of the movie. It ended with both deliberately keeping their criminal secrets to themselves. I wouldn't want to see a sequel though. B+
  7. 800M OS does not seem outrageous given that Nemo did 525M OS in 2003 well before the market expansion and 3D. Further, domestically Dory seems to have matched the inflation adjusted gross of Nemo for the most part, partly due to 3D prices. Still the domestic gross met and even beat expections. So the obvious conclusion is that the OS performance has been a disappointment. @druv10 rightly points to the os/dom ratio being 50/50. While OS cannot be analyzed as one homogeneous entity, there has to be reasons for this underperformance. It is even more perplexing after the fantastic OS performances of Zootopia and The Jungle Book.
  8. Am I the only one that feels Dory underperformed overseas? I do realize that it is ridiculous to use $1 bil. WW and underperformance in the same sentence. Given Dory's fantastic domestic opening, I was thinking $1.2 bil WW. At least compared to the domestic performance, OS seems less impressive especially considering Nemo was a monster overseas.
  9. I watched it today. I liked it a lot. It is typical Mann and that is a good thing. The casting of Tang Lei and Wang Leehorn seems natural. Chris Hemsworth is better than I expected. B+
  10. Tie between the two Toms, Hanks and Cruise.
  11. Fabulous movie. Great stuff from Clint Eastwood. Tom Hanks at his best. Aaron Eckhart is very good. The pacing is superb. A great decade for Tom Hanks with fantastic performances in Captain Philips, Bridge of Spies and Sully. A P.S.: I would have done it in July. Perfect.
  12. On the contrary, I will have you know that I'm a 25 year-old with 26 years experience.
  13. The feeling is the same as it is with you and @junkshop36 I'm 5 years older than you.
  14. Orher than being SH/SV ensembles released in early August, GOTG and SS have very little in common. GOTG was a WOM blockbuster despite being a property with unknown characters and least recognizable leads (Pratt became a big star because of this movie). What catapulted it was the quality. SS is an ensemble movie with a couple of well known characters and a lead in Will Smith, who is still a big name worldwide, even though his star is way down from its peak. While the total may look good, its multiplier will be well below average for an original movie in August, a month which truly helps the legs a lot. Further, the marketing cleverly highlighted the most well known villain of all time barring Darth Vader. That was instrumental in getting SS a phenomenonal opening in August. Beyond that it has been ..... well, a little better than BvS. A worthy achievement indeed. SS out opened GOTG by 42% and will finish close to $20 mil below GOTG. If approx. 2.35 multiplier can be considered good for an original movie in August, not much can be said about the analysis even accounting for the big opening. As some article pointed out that if the only positive for SS is that it has not sucked as hard as BvS, that is way beyond pathetic. The true impact of GOTG & SS quality will be seen in their respective sequels.
  15. Entertaining movie. Quite a bit different than the first one in tone. This almost feels like MI lite. The stunts are excellent and the swimming pool one is top notch. Jessica Alba's blue bikini seems like a nod to Into the Blue. It is strange to see the former Kung fu queen Michelle Yeoh in a subdued character role (She had one in Mummy 3 also) All in all a fun time at the movies. Rating: B
  16. Love the movie. Kinda puzzled that it failed to reach great heights. It is an entertaining adventure with fun performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton. Superb stunts and score. Immensely re-watchable. Rating: A
  17. Mel Gibson Andrew Garfield Sam Worthington Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer Hugo Weaving Rachel Griffiths Vince Vaughn. Other than Teresa Palmer, this looks like the list of "Where are they now"
  18. BVS had the worst multiplier ever for a movie with over 100m ow. The loss is in the potential. An first time grouping like SS would have performed like GOTG with good wom. Due to bad wom, SS won't even come close to GOTG even after opening 42 percent bigger. The release dates are similar and the legs comparison is apt. There is a huge loss od potential due to SS being a bad movie. See what happens to GOTG2 and SS2, if there is one. GOTG2 is likely to increase big time and SS2 is likely to decrease respectively from their originals.
