I just want it to beat The Hunger Games (which it will) and beyond that I don't really care about the domestic box office at this point. The shooting, and more importantly the endless coverage of it, screwed everything up over here. I'm more interested in TDKR's OS box office. It is going to be fascinating to finally see a Batman movie perform better OS than domestically.
Watch TDKR still easily beat Total Recall next weekend. TR is going to be flop city. Bourne's move is looking better and better. Bourne should definitely be able to knock TDKR off that weekend... and by then the media will probably start to move off of the shooting subject.
Yeah, my theater was dead today. TDKR picked up a bit when it came to the late shows but that's about it.The Watch is a hilarious bomb though... not only were very few people going to it, but several of the people who did go to it actually came out during the film complaining about how bad it was. LOL, I can't wait to see the Cinemascore on that one.
The Sunday hold gives me some hope. There's really no doubt in my mind that the shooting knocked at least $20-30 million off this thing though. The coverage has been relentless. Sucks.
Wow, 75 would definitely be a bit disheartening. I do think the shooting, while not necessarily scaring that many people away from theaters, is sort of sucking the fun out of Batman at the moment. Not what this movie needs on OW.It sucks that we were robbed of a completely legitimate Avengers (Marvel) vs. Batman (DC) showdown.
Yeah, that was more like dark comedy though. This had a lot more standard humor in it. If I factor in The Joker, then maybe I'd have to give TDK the edge. Super close though... and it was definitely way funnier than BB.
It almost seems like some of the few seriously disappointed people were waiting for Heath Ledger's Joker to magically make an appearance or something. I'd put TDK ahead of TDKR, but just barely. The movie was brilliant in its own way.
My audience clapped at the end too... and had some very vocal reactions to certain scenes that I won't discuss here. It was sort of cute how the audience hung around hoping for a credit cookie though, lol. That is so not Nolan's MO.
