  1. I think people are massively lowballing here. The gross of DP1 + DP2 = 1.6b, solo wolverine films = 1.4b, jackman x-men ensemble films = 2b … so not even accounting for inflation this movie could be looking at 5 billion
  2. Ehhhh. Look, I’m sure the movie will be fine but I feel like deadpool of all franchises should have amazing promos, and none of these film’s have been. Logan’s a top 3 SH movie as far as I’m concerned but seeing jackman here still does nothing for me.
  3. I’m not one for predictions but I’d be astonished if deadpool beats this WW
  4. It is sort of weird that Richie keeps being allowed to make fairly big movies. He’s clearly likeable enough on set that big actors keep coming back to work with him.
  5. Edwards is a competent enough director that feels like a final test of whether a Jurassic Park sequel is at all capable of not sucking, or if the setup just makes it fundamentally impossible for follow-ups to good
  6. Hey, if reeves want to ignore that crappy deleted scene as canon I’ll be the first to say ‘phew’. Premature of him to release it in the first place to have his cake and eat it in that case, but hey-ho.
  7. The joker the reeves film already has looks absolutely awful and phoenix’s joker would pose zero threat to any Batman so it’s safe to say I’m in the ‘give joker as an arch nemesis a rest for a decade’ camp
  8. yes, it’s getting very tiresome. Strong echoes of the first movie where complaints about the incel concerns outnumbered actual incel concern 100:1
  9. [Lisa Simpson doing a presentation meme] Multi-million dollar hollywood pay checks are an unhelpful battleground to fight the (very worthwhile) gender pay disparity war on. We all know why phoenix is getting paid more for this film, and it’s not because he has a dick.
  10. I don’t love the first film but I internally reconciled the character as someone who basically fantasises about being the joker. It’s certainly more interesting than taking him as literal version of the joker, because he’d be fucking useless if he was.
  11. Also used in the tv show Alan Partridge to highlight another doomed romance. Partridge was of course played by Steve Coogan who now appears to be Joker’s therapist, or something, so in my head-cannon it’s a deliberate call-back to that
  12. I’ve come to grudgingly admire Randolph. She’s an absolute chancer who lodged herself into online film discourse with nothing but sheer force of will. I respect the hustle
  13. you couldn’t parody that quote if you tried. When you read about filmmakers rallying against studio heads in the 70s this exactly the mindset they were fighting
  14. easy tiger. The shitty revenue trends are what they are, we’re all going to have our own perceptions as to why. Discussing them is half the point of this forum
  15. I see the first gladiator as the freak accident, because generally Scott is not what I would call a natural storyteller. He likes weirdness and moodiness (and good for him!). So for gladiator to be such a populist movie was a miracle. Suffice it to say I’m not expecting a repeat here.
  16. middle class dad here: can confirm. None of us are talking about what we saw at the cinema recently, we’re talking about what good shows we caught on streaming. The last two times I went to the cinema since the summer was to see the paw patrol movie and migration (FML). I think barbenheimer broke people’s brains a bit. Nothing’s actually changed
  17. Unless a load of posts got deleted before I saw them, nothing happened. Comic book movie discourse is increasingly concerned with imagined outrage way more than actual outrage. Joker really opened the floodgates on that one. anyway, no idea about silver surfer lore but garner almost single-handedly made ozark watchable so this is a win for marvel as far as I’m concerned
  18. Actually impressed they included a cigarette in that poster. By 2024 standards that’s radically transgressive
  19. Well, the Mario film looked bad - and by many accounts was bad - and we all know what happened there…
  20. I could take or leave the final product but I still regard the first joker trailer as one of the greatest promos of all time. No pressure for the follow-up then.
