  1. So this is a horror movie, then. Posters are all over London showing a girl in a bath with what looks like eels (?) and the title in big letters, without even an indication that it's a film. I somehow doubt a breakout is on the cards.
  2. It's easy to see why it was a smash, though I can't help but wish the second half wasn't so frantic.
  3. All JP sequels were trash, but JP3 knows it's trash. Its cop-out ending is one of the worst in film history though.
  4. My girlfriend tried to see T2 this evening at a fairly big south london cinema but it was sold out, which seems pretty crazy this late into the run.
  5. Hmm, it's a nice thought but I certainly don't feel like there's been a greater variety of movies since OS markets exploded. In fact I'd say they've become a lot more bland to cater to as many different cultures as possible.
  6. Probably the most irritating thing about JW was that it wasted its own premise. The entire marketing campaign promised tourist-filled park chaos but that only really happened in a single scene. The rest might as well have been on a deserted island like all the other films. But hey, I love JP so much that if WOM was much stronger for the next film I'd probably give it a shot.
  7. Lol, as soon as I scrolled down to that CGI story I could already hear Dash typing away. I mean, this approach was expected. The fun of going back to Blade Runner is surely the creation of elaborate sets as much as anything else. But there'll be a shitload of CGI wizardry regardless.
  8. It's more Hong-Kong style action films that old fashioned, per se. Also people liked seeing Reeves kick ass again after the Matrix.
  9. Seems like LB should have done a bit better? Strong legs ahoy, I guess.
  10. I don't buy that, but I appreciate it's a total nitpick. Maybe they could have written it that he came back home to find the dead dog, but I suppose it wouldn't have been dramatically urgent. Anyway, who cares. Bring on the sequel.
  11. ^ The only problem with that scene is that it comes right after you see Wick get taken out very easily by 3 thugs with baseball bats. I get that without that there's no story, but it doesn't seem in keeping with the actions of the world's greatest assassin.
  12. Damn, great run. I'd be surprised if it makes a dent OS but it's quite nice to see an old-fashioned sleeper hit like this.
  13. That makes sense. The finale of the the first film has a weird feeling of 'well the main bad guy's still alive, I guess we might as well finish him off too'. I hope the sequel maintains the urgency throughout this time.
  14. I'd always assumed Bad Boys 2 made tons of money, but 273m WW against a 130m budget is nothing special. Do people really want a follow-up?
  15. Still find it funny that, fake news or not, this was the hill/film people were willing to die on. It flopped because it looked shite.
  16. The assassins hotel in the first was a very neat idea. Sounds like the sequel is doubling down on the mythology, though God knows how.
  17. Don't have too much interest in this movie, but the Japanese soldier debate reminded me of an exhaustive video essay I watched a while back discussing the techniques Spielberg employed on Ryan to (rightly or wrongly) humanise the Americans and dehumanise the Germans. I like SPR but it's hard disagree with a few of the points this makes:
  18. It'll be way dumber than the source material, but that's hardly a hurdle to big money. Audiences dig Johansson as an action hero and the production design looks pretty amazing. Be very surprised if it's not a hit.
  19. Finally got round to watching the first. It's rough around the edges but when it's good it's amazing. Definitely game for the sequel, and it's been literally years since I was excited for an action film.
  20. I liked Inherent Vice, but reading the book and knowing the story beforehand helped a lot. While there is some humour to be derived from being as lost as the protagonist — a la The Big Lebowski — I think it would have become too trying for that movie. Anyway, excited to see PTA's vision of 50s Britain.
  21. The paradox of this forum is that its users know far more than most about a movie's likely chances of success and yet they're still also incredibly optimistic about almost any blockbuster on the horizon. Never change, guys.
