If filming begins in August then there is no way it will release in July 2025. That is less than a year turnaround for a vfx heavy movie.
I see another delay. Maybe November or December 2025 if Avatar 3 gets delayed to December 2026.
Sony would call December dibs for Spider-Man 4 if Avatar is pushed to 2026. I see an Eternals/NWH situation then with FF4 releasing in the first week of November.

If Peltz had just stuck to an Underperforming 2023 slate argument, he'd be in a better position.
If Peltz had just stuck to attacking The Marvels as a sign of Disney putting Agenda Over Quality, he'd be in a better position — though still a very detestable person as that is not why The Marvels underperformed/flopped.
Attacking BP and BP2? Well I won't say it's a death sentence, coz corporate intrigue can be second only to palace intrigue in its opaqueness and impenetrability from the outside, but it sure doesn't help his chances.
Even the average alt-right rage tuber is smart enough to stick to softer targets like The Marvels and not criticize Black Panther in their gazillion anti-woke rant videos (at least not in thumbnails). The fact that Peltz went after BP too doesn't just show his bigotry but also reveals he is way out of touch if he doesn't realize how big those movies were financially and that they were the biggest splash made by Disney blockbusters in a long time.
Even if I were purely cynical and just into the numbers and PR, that would be a red flag for me right away.

Can someone who's more aware of how this kind of thing works give any idea as to who has the edge in this board fight?
I think Iger would have preferred to have voting take place after the surefire hits that are IO2 and D&W but the members have stayed loyal to him so far. If he's smart he should immediately nab Peltz and point out that Black Panther was a 1.3B+ movie with a huge cultural impact and several Oscar wins and how such a monumental film wouldn't have been greenlit under Peltz.
Ofc he too has bought into the anti-woke BS to an extent with his "Our films have become too political" comments. X-Men '97 has the heroes literally fighting insurrectionists and that is Disney+'s biggest animated series debut since What If? Season 1 in peak MCU popularity era.

I wonder what songs they've included if the royalties also contributed to the budget ballooning up to 200M+

It's 100% fake. The movie finished post-production last November, the cut is long locked.
I'm a bit confused as to what in the tweet contradicts this. Also Gold Derby is a legit source for early test screening reports. They're more into awards predictions than the comic book film rumor mill.

Looks solid. I am still hung up on “California and Texas are working together.” Like was that added in to make sure the audience knows this is fiction? 💀
The movie's set in the Red, White and Royal Blue universe, years after President Uma Thurman's half-Latino gay son flipped Texas for her second term victory

Bar a Kung Fu Panda scenario that seems like a rare highball from Deadline. Looking more around 35M.
Cut to D'Alessandro next week when the actual numbers come in
We're told this is not a total disaster...

So my theory kind of proven??
Suzume getting so much love at Annie probably split the vote from Heron, causing spiderverse to dominate but at the Oscar, the anime/handrawn friendly voters all gather and vote for Heron.
Yeah I guess Miyazaki does have clout with Academy voters after all, even if that level of admiration doesn't extend to other Ghibli directors. Guess Howl's and The Wind Rises only lost because Were-Rabbit and Frozen were too influential to be ignored.
HMC coming pretty soon after Spirited Away may have also hurt it.

I thnk the Gladstone, though excellent...had really a supporting role in terms of the story, and Poor Things was built around Stone's charecter was decisive. I think they threw away a almost certain win for Gladstone by not puhing her for the supporting actress category.
They threw away an almost certain Lead win for Gladstone by not giving her character more screentime and POV scenes. KotFM wouldn't have gained all the goodwill and clout if it was more honest about decentralizing the Osage in their own story so ofc they couldn't put Lily in Supporting.

Thought the ratings would get a bigger boost with two huge movies leading the awards. At least viewership was up a little.
The telecast also was at a 3.8 demo rating, compared with last year’s 4.0 — down, but not by much.
Margot and Greta were snubbed so a lot of the Barbie crowd didn't tune in

Twitter and I gaslit Ghibli into believing they didn't stand a chance 💀
Super interesting tho that the Academy aligned with HFPA and BAFTAs on this instead of Annie and PGA. Spider-Verse crew turned up for BAFTAs instead of Annies. Heron crew didn't turn up for Oscars. Most chaotic race ever!

Remove china debut, the holdover markets drop around 40% this session. Looks like the some meh holds in Asia or LATAM offset the great hold in European market.
to be frank I am not entirely certain if this can hit 700m, even knowing that Japan and Middle East are still on their way.
Non-white audiences just don't seem to care for it. It would have been so interesting if they had cast Bollywood and MENA/Turkish stars in the Fremen and Corrino roles with the exception of Zendaya. Villeneuve could have been more creative with the casting.

She sounds like an entitled brat. She only has her blunt and straightforward personality because she's a nepo baby and won't worry about risking her career when she says things like that. It's not like she's getting abused on set or anything. She chose this project because of the money lol
This is dangerously innacurate shit. Even Gwyneth Paltrow and Asia Argento were preyed upon by the likes of Weinstein so it's not like nepotism is guaranteed safety against harassment. Both of Dakota's grandmother and mother were treated like garbage by the industry. She doesn't really need to put up a fake pretense of being "grateful" for being cast in uninspired duds like Madame Web. She has already made bank thanks to the 50 Shades franchise. Robert Pattinson broke out due to Twilight and that didn't stop him from dunking on the films while they were still coming out but he wasn't hated on for it.

Okay, so I'll be the downer.
If a great campaign with amazing stars with a greatly received movie can't break 3 digits OW, then we're in for a long year...
Why would a DUNE film open to 3 digits though? It's actually a testament to the BO pull of the stars in the film that it's opening as high as it is. Refreshing after so much was made about the death of star power. The exact same cast would have opened a Spider-Man film to 150M+ easily if not more.

Didn’t Ryan Reynolds mention that Jackman was the one who approached them about being in DP3? He’s made it no secret long before the Fox buyout that he wanted to be in the MCU.
Besides, he was in Movie 43. In terms of selling out, you can’t go any lower than that.
Also, man's idea of an Oscar vehicle is The Greatest Showman. Love the guy, but let's be real lol

There's a pretty fundamental part you're missing here, which is that Denis said "I don't remember movies because of a good line". He's not making some wide statement about how all moviegoers think, he's talking about himself.
It could be a language barrier thing too for someone like Denis whose first language isn't English (well yeah, French cinema exists too but I think he was talking in the context of international cinema connecting across borders). It's not a coincidence though that the most universally popular foreign language films like Parasite and Studio Ghibli tend to be VERY visual language heavy. Also why songs and music in different languages end up being much more popular than movies and shows that are in different languages, generally speaking.

Avatar moving back won't delay FF. FF starting shoots in August will delay FF.
If Avatar moves then December becomes prime property again. But Sony will grab it for Spidey coz Marvel can't challenge them over it as FF is no competition for the wall crawler. So I suspect FF will take traditional MCU release date, the first week of November instead.
