  1. Sad but true. The silver lining with streaming is that it has given documentaries unprecedented popularity and more intellectual storytelling, especially shows and miniseries, are enjoying great attention (well, many anyhoo) Honestly tho, this has been happening even before the OTT boom. HBO brought about a golden age of television and accidentally, Hollywood programmed people to expect great characters on tv and larger than life spectacle in cinemas for more than a decade now Okay but can we at least wait for the WW opening weekend numbers before declaring this a money loser? (Which I don't think it will be in the long run as it's got "Saltburn streaming breakout" written all over it.
  2. The frontloading shows Zendaya is the only reason it's staying afloat. Otherwise it would've been DOA. R-rating won't let most of her young fanbase attend anyway. Maybe she should have gone with a more wholesome romcom for her first major non-blockbuster release. But I guess her team is expecting awards chatter for Challengers?
  3. Were you around here pre-COVID? The conversations were the same, regarding how people came out just for tentpoles barring horror flicks and maaaybe one or two exceptions.
  4. When studios shut down when the Frozen Empires keep losing them money then it's game over for theaters anyway
  5. Huh? She's nothing in interviews and real life videos like her role in Euphoria. If anything, her personality would have been perfect for Comics MJ but MCU decided to make her into a loser with no friends for whatever reason
  6. None of this is about what I was talking about so let me make it easy for you. Do you think Civil War and Challengers would have put up much higher numbers pre-Covid?
  7. I don't see the Marvel vs. DC wars reigniting anytime soon, or at least nowhere near the same intensity of 2015-2021. Mainly because most of the "flame warriors" have turned against their own brands. Snyder bros against WB/DC and anti-wokes against Feige/MCU.
  8. What I find silly is that there's doom and gloom despite the improbability of Civil War and Challengers making as much as they have even PRE Covid. When was the last time a high concept political movie and a sexy tennis movie put up these numbers? Genuinely asking.
  9. Secret Wars coming soon with X-Men and alternate universe versions of dead Avengers
  10. These 2 weeks, the Top 2 is gonna stay MJ dominated
  11. Grace Randolph found this to be pretty "nuanced" and "tasteful" compared to Poor Things and Saltburn so I'm guessing it's on the tamer side unless you don't even watch HBO. Coz that woman was originally scared of the first trailer too and said it felt like a party that got too wild and she'd be calling her mom to pick her up 😝
  12. Don't get what ya'll mean by "audience doesn't dig the multiverse" when the multiverse has always just been an excuse for these team-ups between multiple variations of the same characters. Which ppl are excited for here, so... Loki S2 tried to get pretentiously cerebral about it tho. It works better when you just throw popular characters from different universes together like in NWH and the Spider-Verse films
  13. I think marketing and reviews have done all they can, including capitalizing on a Barbenheimer connection that hadn't even occurred to me. I feel the concept itself of crossing Hollywood stunt action with romcoms doesn't have too large an appeal amongst any one demo
  14. Garfield would have been insanely huge if it had come out this month instead of on Memorial weekend. It will still be big but in April it may have delivered a GxK level surprise
  15. It cost more than Monkey Man, Civil War and Abigail combined and will still lose money
  16. Zatanna seems the perfect fit for them on the horror side of DC. Also helps that Barrera would be fantastic in the lead role.
  17. Sherlock Holmes too. If we're counting streaming then Extraction as well. I, Tonya on a smaller scale? Margot Robbie is an interesting one as I feel people being familiar with her as Harley Quinn did contribute to the successes of both Tonya and Barbie, even if that wasn't the only thing driving ticket sales, especially for Barbie.
  18. I don't see what Shaun Levy and co. stand to gain by playing coy when asked about her instead of flat out denying she's in the film if she's not in the film. She is VERY much a part of the film. It's the extent of her contributions that need to seen.
  19. The MCU is neither dead but neither is it in the same situation as it was in say 2014-2019 where any Z-List character could be catapulted to BO gold. It's in a middle phase where it needs to stick to its most popular IPs, which is what Iger said was the plan anyway.
  20. He believed in his own hype thanks to the Twitter trolls. The Witcher was actually the perfect role that managed to utilize his limited range to the fullest.
  21. Well, obviously movies are not doomed and we are still feeling the after effects of last year's strikes but there's something to be said about a "little girl vampire movie" being thought of as a hard sell when the same studio had insane marketing just a little more than a year ago for an evil little doll movie that helped it break out in JANUARY. Why did Universal's marketing team sleep on Abigail? Where was this energy?
  22. I bet Marvel and Reynolds didn't think they'd have to deal with Tay Tay putting hints in the lyrics of her new album The future's bright, dazzling... are the last words on the album. Seems like a done deal at this point.
