  1. Honestly think the Barbie outrage is subdued and mature enough considering this is the second time Gerwig has been snubbed. There were protestations over the Little Women snub in 2020 too so I feel this is a lot of pent-up frustration among fans building up over the years that has finally exploded and amplified by the fact that Barbie is a much bigger film than LW (the 2020 awards in general were crappy to women as highlighted by this great video by YouTuber Be Kind Rewind) Now compare that to the dumbass Rachel Zegler Snow White manufactured outrage that seems like a collective kindergarten tantrum. The Oppie fans would have also burned the house down if something like The Color Purple had replaced it in the Best Picture category.
  2. The White Lotus helped them find the light and sent them to the nunnery
  3. Meg Donnelly is also voicing Supergirl in the current DTV animated universe which is about to end because Gunn wants his own animated projects to take centerstage with the live action actors voicing the characters. So if she misses out on this, she'll be losing a job in hand and a much more lucrative opportunity 😬
  4. The Oscar Expert bros said Williams could die and an AI program could be installed in his place and the Academy would still keep nominating whatever it generated 😭😭
  5. It's not that Barbie is being 'targeted' in particular but if you want to see the male bias among the Academy then just see the difference between the performances of the two Netflix films, Maestro and May December. Both are featuring respected talent and MD was better received by critics but for some reason the Academy chose Maestro for the big noms (I'm glad they didn't give Cooper a BD nom at least) Ditto for Past Lives and Celine Song/Greta Lee missing out on BD and BA. I haven't seen The Color Purple and I know it's of a more contentious quality but seeing how a lesser critically favored film like Maestro has gotten recognition, don't see why TCP couldn't have received more accolades as well. Outside of Oppenheimer, this could have been a completely female dominated year if the Academy had chosen to. And let's not even get into the bias against animated films.
  6. Would it be a hot take to say that Nolan is the least deserving of these 5 Director noms? 👀
  7. Lmao majority of the Academy voters don't even watch foreign animated films or any animated film beyond the designated Disney/Pixar film or something too popular to ignore like Spider-Verse or that has a name they recognize attached to it like Del Toro's Pinnochio Not saying TBatF can't win, but "inevitably" is an overstatement considering it lost Critics Choice to AtSV. Spider-Verse still has the maximum number of wins so far.
  8. GotG3 is not the comparison. Infinity War did a number on Star-Lord's goodwill. Also, it was way too close to Quantumania whose bombage stink was still fresh at the time. This will be Wolverine's first appearance after Logan. And as of now, it still looks to be the most anticipated film of the year.
  9. They're factoring in the Renee Rapp SNL appearance bump 😛
  10. Why is No Way Home not a "pure" Marvel movie? Its success along with the Spider-Verse films is literally the blueprint for this movie.
  11. It's not tho lol. The scene is included in the Who is Madame Web? featurette posted on the previous page. The fortune says You've got a winning personality!
  12. Suddenly puts things into perspective as to why Disney is making a live action remake of their Snow White film now, even though the character herself isn't very popular compared to the other Disney Princesses Which IPs will Paramount and Sony lose to public domain in the 2030s? I imagine it's going to be almost the entirety of the Monster verse for Universal.
  13. This movie was so terrible that no one giving a fuck about it actually serves as a cautionary tale for those thinking of spending time, energy and money on a reductive evil Superman hackjob
  14. Yeah I have to call BS on this. The whole Emma Roberts Mary Parker plot doesn't make sense if they remove every reference to the Parkers or Spider-Man. And seeing how the film is confirmed to be almost 2 hours long, doesn't seem like a lot was edited out. Also, a TASM prequel would require this to be set in the mid 90s at least (which doesn't look to be the case? You'd think the trailers would make that part more apparent if it were true)
  15. The inclusion of Harvey Dent makes it seem even more like an adaptation of the Harleen comic and that's ANYTHING but a "love redeems" story lol
  16. Seeing how the whole point of making the film was to ride the coattails of the Spider-Man brand, I don't understand why marketing hasn't pushed the overt Spider-Man connections front and center.
  17. Both Julia Spider-Woman and Black Suit Spidey were designed by the same artist Mike Zeck. Zeck had initially designed Julia's costume but apparently then Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter suggested copying the design for a new suit for Spider-Man. Also, Venom's host was originally conceived to be a woman instead of Eddie Brock: https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/10/09/venom-was-originally-a-woman-who-blamed-her-miscarriage-on-spider-man
  18. Yeah, and Sexy is cute and fun. Even the Regina song ain't all that considering it's Regina fucking George. The songs didn't really give the marketing team much so I can see why they went for bait and switch. Ditto for Wonka which only has a slightly superior soundtrack to Mean Girls (haven't watched The Color Purple musical so can't comment on that). People seem to have forgotten that in order to make a musical, you need to have good songs first. Mean Girls: The Musical just seemed to be jumping on the relative success of Heathers: The Musical (which btw has FAR SUPERIOR SONGS) The movie cast here are incredible tho with many potential superstars in the making.
  19. They probably felt they needed to add something to the comics design after removing the cool Venom style eyes. Chin strap ain't it tho. A pity they're doing Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman injustice because black suit Spidey and Venom were the ones to have basically stolen her look instead of the other way around
  20. The pandemic situation made things worse for WW84 as ppl really needed it to be as good as the first after the crappy year they had in 2020. The first major CBM of the pandemic was always going to have it rough if it didn't knock it out of the park for fans like say, an NWH. Things would have been different for the movie in a regular Summer 2020. The reviews were mixed, not downright toxic, and so would reception have been. A good film would have probably opened at BvS numbers. But I think WW84 with its quality would have managed 150M OW
  21. @cannastop canna stop bringing the Boy/Heron vs. Spider-Verse wars to Snyder fans vs. WB levels? 😭
  22. On a purely superficial and cynical business basis, hiring Alcock makes sense because she has the most recognition and popularity and at this point, Gunn and DC need to make some "popular" choices (putting popular in quotes because so far GOT actors have done shit for the box office of the films they've appeared in) I'm still not sure if Supergirl is THE female character to push tho, even if it's obvious why they want to give Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn a breather.
  23. Carano did disclose that Pedro had tried talking her out of her transphobia by politely educating her and she even had a temporary "change of heart" because of his compassion... ...before relapsing into her bullshit again and then becoming persona non-grata because of it lmao
