Asia loves superhero movies because it is the closest thing the West offers that connects with their own myths and cultures. It's obvious from the trailers that Zhao is leaning heavily into the mythical aspects of superheroes with a lot of imagery from Indian and East Asian/South East Asian arts and culture. I kind of wish she had directed New Gods now as that's a far richer story. Her work was cut out with the bare minimum that is the Eternals source material but she already seems to have elevated it.

Her fanbase is pretty much like Venom's fanbase where they are super big with the under 18 crowd. To put her in R-rated films was just limiting audiences. Hardy and co. shrewdly kept the PG-13 rating, something Robbie and co. should have done for at least BOP. Yeah, I don't see a second Catwoman turning up to compete with Zoe. I thought they were considering bringing back Pfeiffer with Keaton but Quantum Mania might keep her busy. It might just be a Harley & Ivy duo film though, considering Margot's recent comments about Poison Ivy. BOP and TSS performances have probably made WB wary of greenlighting a Harley film so soon though. If there's a fourth film with her, it better be PG-13.

NO TIME TO DIE WEEKEND THREAD | Bond 56M, Venom 32M

The Potter games were pretty good too, though POA was the last one I purchased (my favorite of the first 3). Funnily enough, the 1992 Virgin Games adaptation of Lynch's Dune was what made me aware of the franchise. A pretty easy to crack, world exploring adventure game/RPG that thrust you completely into the world of Arakkis, even if it severely watered down the series' concepts. -
NO TIME TO DIE WEEKEND THREAD | Bond 56M, Venom 32M

Yeah, it's clear people at this point will come out to see what they want to see and give a miss to something they are on the fence with. We were already nearing a feast or famine situation pre-pandemic (2019 DOM saw films do either over 330M or under 200M save for It Chapter 2). Post-pandemic may witness even more extreme situations, especially for the low end. -
NO TIME TO DIE WEEKEND THREAD | Bond 56M, Venom 32M

Skyfall acted like a Nolan blockbuster than an actual Bond film coz all the Nolan comparisons got Nolan fanboys curious. -
After the controversies surrounding Pratt and Gunn, I think Feige put the Guardians there to reboost their popularity by piggybacking on Thor instead of the other way round. L&T might actually outgross GOTG3 WW if the difference in number of open markets is not substantial. Still think MoM will be bigger than L&T, though that depends on how many actors playing various alternate universe versions of their Marvel characters appear in the film.

Only one episode needs to be submitted by actors, directors, writers etc. for the Emmy voters to watch. It perfectly explains why Nicholson won because she most likely submitted her last episode, whereas someone like Hahn didn't have a "breakout episode" as such but instead was more consistent throughout the show, so stood at a disadvantage, Also why Lena Headey was never nominated for GOT until the last season where they included the entire main cast (though I have no idea how she didn't get a nom for Season 2's Blackwater). The Claire Foy win though is still wack.

King Richard | November 19, 2021 | Warner. Bros

Will said, Bollywood, if you are just gonna remake Hitch without paying me then ya'll wouldn't mind if I do the same and try my shot at an Oscar for it. -
Dune has overt themes of: Colonialism (more pronounced now with the native Fremen being POC) Imperialism Environmentalism Feminism Theocratic dictatorship People keep comparing it to Star Wars on the space setting with high tech weaponry battles, but thematically it's more Fury Road meets Game of Thrones. House Atreides and House Stark parallels are strong. House Harkonnen is a mix of House Targaryen and Lannister.

Weekday Numbers (9/7-9) | Shang-Chi 6.62M Tuesday

I'm not sure if it works like that because Civil War needed to be released in 2016 for Infinity War and Endgame to be massive in 2018-19. Pre-Covid, the MCU fed successive films to be bigger with consecutive movies over the years, both in terms of team-ups (IW, EG, CW) and solos (BP, IM3, FFH, CM), with the exception being an overtly low scale film like Ant-Man and the Wasp which the Eternals is clearly not. -

There's literally just a 60M gap between the CW/FFH/CM trio and IM3 WW. 😅 They are all in the Top 20 highest grossing films of all time anyway, in the 16-20 positions, -

By that logic, everything under 900M or so is bottom tier hence my previous question. -

What is the bottom limit of "mid-tier" if 1.1B+ films like CM and FFH are also a part of it? -

How are Captain Marvel and FFH mid-tier box office though?
