  1. Uh nobody cares. They knew they underutilized her in Captain Marvel and got her back as a lead character this time around. (tho now I have to wonder if Sersi was the role that caused the Constance Wu Twitter mini-meltdown and that Gemma was the second choice; either way, great for GC).
  2. Lolwut how is this more niche than Happy Death Day and Lights Out? Anyway, the lack of competition over the next two weeks might still help it if WOM gets out early and before Pennywise chews it out completely (unless spillovers help?)
  3. Wait, did I miss Deadpool 2 in the Top 50 or did people forget about it altogether for it to not even make the Top 100? Damn.
  4. The last time he made an appearance, he told me everything was fine and that he was just caught up with family/work stuff.
  5. From Dawson's Creek to the Venom franchise sounds like a more believable career arc than from Dawson's Creek to Oscar nominee.
  6. BatB remake is worse than Alice tbh. Should be interesting to see how Ariel and Mulan place.
  7. This statement still a thing? Repeat with me: Feminism and diversity have jackshit to do with bad storytelling. Its impact on good storytelling is also only to the extent that a seldom explored POV is highlighted, but then too the hard work needs to be put in to ensure your strong women and minority characters aren't just tokens but well-rounded, complex characters. But by themselves feminism and diversity haven't made a story bad lol.
  8. Somebody else who played American McGee's Alice Remember when Sarah Michelle Gellar had signed on to star in a movie adaptation of the game? The attached director Marcus Nispel has proven to be weaksauce but SMG as Alice would have been enjoyable regardless.
  9. The potential for Aladdin sequels in the next decade could be ginormous if SA develops into a robust market soon enough.
  10. Did the organizers of SDCC sponsor this article with its "WB/DC missed out big time by sitting out the Con" bottomline? There's nothing to show that Comic Con was the reason for Aquaman breaking out (in fact, remember when people said Shazam "upstaged" Aquabro at last year's SDCC? ). Looking back at the DCEU's BO history, its biggest DOM hit Wonder Woman had a release date that was almost a year apart from the previous SDCC (and even then, WW ended up being more of a leggy phenomenon, meaning whatever exposure it got at SDCC was negligible). Even Suicide Squad really exploded on the scene with the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer shown with the CW special in January, not at SDCC. The most publicized DCEU movie at SDCC was JL, and well, we saw how that turned out.
  11. Jane Foster's Thor storyline is way more meatier than just her being the first female Thor. She's also a cancer survivor, but her transformation into Thor screws up her treatment and the cancer keeps coming back. Increasing the emotional heft tenfold. Purely speculating, but I think one of the reasons Jason Aaron, the writer of the Jane Foster Thor book, probably came up with the idea in the first place in hopes that it would catch Portman and Feige's interest and be adapted on the big screen. So... score?
  12. TBF Coco did generate a lot of excitement OS. The (still strong) but smaller DOM numbers were reflected in its overall muted response DOM as well. Though it piqued on a few more people's radars after the Oscars.
  13. Could see Multiverse of Madness being similar to Civil War where many Avengers appear as "alternate versions" of themselves, so a billion could be locked.
  14. Every character cast so far was male in the comics other than Jolie's Thena, so 3 genderbent (Hayek's Ajak, Ridlof's Makkari, and the child Sprite). Doesn't matter as: 1.) The Eternals are obscure and 2.) When this movie probably succeeds, those Eternals will probably become female in the comics too.
  15. If she was actually considered, it must've been for the kid. Sersi is Ikarus (Madden)'s lover, so I'd assume they are looking for an actress in her 20s or early 30s. Assuming the theory about Karen is right (and that there is a Karen in the first place).
  16. Neil Gaiman run. It basically made Sersi DCEU's Wonder Woman (immortal woman hailing from a race of gods, living among humans for generations). I wonder if this rumored lead character "Karen" is an alias for Sersi.
  17. *70s. But in the comics, they didn't have any such quirks. The filmmakers can easily give the Eternals similar quirks in the movie. Also, seeing how the GOTG aren't as big as some other MCU heroes OS, one has to wonder whether the 70's and 80's references actually hold them back there.
  18. It's literally comparing two properties in the F-List. At least Eternals had a Neil Gaiman re imagining. GotG weren't touched by anyone until 2008.
  19. In the comics Jane Foster is diagnosed with cancer and undergoes chemo before she is able to wield Mjolnir (contrasting her frail "real" self to her powered Thor self). So there is a LOT of potential here.
  20. This film is being made primarily for China. Obviously they'd want it to be successful elsewhere as well but first and foremost, the objective is to create the first onscreen Chinese-origin superhero from Hollywood and solidify the relationship Marvel/Disney has with the Middle Kingdom. Also see: They were fine with Princess Jasmine not being played by a Middle Eastern actress but Mulan had to be played by a Chinese actress in the live action reboots.
